I used to have a neighbor back in the early to mid 2000's that obsessed over E30 M3s. He had three (one was his auto-x car) and his wife had one. I remember him telling me that I should buy one because they were going to be worth a lot in the future. They were going for around $7-8,000 at the time with pristine ones going for up to $20K at the time. I'm kicking myself now.

The e36M will have its day. So pushed aside because of the lack of flares, but in my opinion a great example of pure and understated design, as well as being an amazingly rewarding car to drive.
@joshuad17163 жыл бұрын
What about the fact it had a 328i motor with a tune? And not an actual ///m motor unless it’s a euro spec
@terbennett3 жыл бұрын
I think the E36 is the most reliable too. I had one and I had over 200k miles on it when I sold it. The car still drove superbly with original engine and drivetrain. Outside of regular maintenance, I only had the radiator replaced once and the shocks twice. Maintenance costs were still high (It's an M car), but the car was very reliable. Oh, and it was an actual M engine, not a tuned 328 engine. The US model was detuned because it offered an automatic transmission option. That transmission was from the 328, but the engine was still the handbuilt M engine.
@spacepxl3 жыл бұрын
Also worth keeping in mind that the s50us/s52 can make just about 300 crank hp with cams, intake/exhaust, and a tune. That's a big gain for an NA engine, and further support that it was detuned to meet emissions requirements.

I’m an original E36 M3 owner. I take care of it meticulously, just like the E30 guy I replaces factory screw, bolts, hardware when they start to tarnish, change seat belts and receptacles when worn out and color faded, all the plastic trim and mountings just fall apart every 7/8 years and get replaced...tons of aesthetic stuff in addition to normal maintenance. it’s hard work and expensive but rewarding.
