When this review came out, some reviewers were saying the MC9 is a "fail." There was some dog piling on the MC9 (just like when the Sig P365) came out. Uh huh.
Well here's some rebuttal in defence of the MC9 and my bold prediction on how successful it will be. The crew and I tested the MC9 and came away impressed...like immediately. We'll talk about some of the ridiculous testing protocol some click baiter 'reviewers' use to draw your attention (and this works btw). Then we deliver a real review and talk about what we found out.
Also integrating for the first time are data from my TNP Patreon clubhouse (join below). I will use this on occasion to add to my own data. I've known many of these guys for years and years and I trust their information.
TacticalDoodle and I cover the MC9 accuracy, reliability, firepower, color & coming special editions, sights, grip, the still xlnt competitive options, and much more. Kinda' how watching a mountain bike crash is more interesting that click bait gun "testing."

I do have one question, I have 600 rounds through the gun (mostly blazer and Winchester white box 115 grain) no issues. I have two boxes of hornady critical defense 135 grain no issues. But I have not carried it yet. Are all these people on KZbin just crapping on the MC9 after a high rounds count or are those issues legit?

I have the 2-tone Canik Mete MC-9 it's been a great CCW workhorse! I was in the USAF as a CATM Instructor/Security Forces Craftsman for 15 years (1991-2006) and did a ton of pistol shooting, trading, carrying for duty! Surprisingly, this little pistol shoots like a bigger pistol! Usually, smaller compacts/subcompacts kick pretty good, but this one seems to take up the recoil. It's well balanced. I carry with the 15 rounder and use the 12 rounder as the spare mag. Thanks for your service to our country TNP! 🙏✝️🇺🇸🕊️

Salute! I'm a father of 3 so I only get one right tool for the right job, so my daily is a Shield Plus. So I recently picked up the TP9 Elite SC for my winter carry (can get away with a bigger gun more capacity). Took it to the range and as beautiful to shoot as it is to look at.

As an armed bodyguard, the Rival is my carry of choice. Appendix carried with in custom holster from the Austrian company Black Trident; cordura covered kydex. Reliable; very accurate, the best trigger of any polymer pistol with a 2mm reset and MecGar make 20 round Canik mags. I also use the MeCanik M01 micro red-dot that automatically adjusts for light conditions. It checks all the boxes.

It makes to no sense to buy a gun with a dubious track record of reliability, when there is a tidal wave of similar guns with excellent reliability - Shield Plus, G43/43X/48, Ruger Max 9, P365 and many more. Nutn's Patreon members are giving mixed opinions on reliability, which is not a good sign. Canik should figure out how to make the gun bulletproof [

If you want an extremely fun pistol and you already have a solid EDC I'd highly recommend the Canik Tp9SFX Rival. I have some videos on my channel shooting it somewhat fast. It's a smile machine. Check out my "short" on it, it's like 1min long and it's just me shooting steel with it. My TP9SFX Rival has been completely reliable and I've shot the piss outta that gun. I'm still a Glock guy but Canik is really winning me over.

I got a this same 9mm as my first firearms purchase at my local gun shop for $425, and I’m very happy with it. I also got the same Olight baldr mini, but in black. Talon grips, and a MuddyRiverTactical iwb holster. One thing that was a game changer for me was buying the 15 round mags with a full grip on the end of them that fills in the cavity behind the stock 15 round mag. I bought two of them in black at bass pro! They fit very well and really make the grip feel 100 times better. You will see for yourself! Haven’t seen anything on youtube about those mags but if only people knew Canik offered that option, they’d be more inclined to buy these new MC9s

Bought 2 MC9's the second they showed up on the market because I had caught wind of them about a year before anyone else really even heard about them, a friend of mine who is a Canik dealer and armorer as well as having been the undersherriff for like 17 years in the county in Idaho where I live,, and as well owning American Freedom Deffense just down the road from my home (I shoot competition and train there on a fairly regular bassis ) keeps me well informed of new stuff coming out,,,, anyhow I had him put my name on 2 of them so as soon as he got the first four he was allocated I got 2 of them,,, out of like the first batch to hit American soil so to speak,,,, one is the black and tan like Nutn has here and an all tan one,,, the all tan one has run flawless from day one,,,, not one single hickup what so ever, the black and tan has had a couple minor hickups in the first couple hundred rounds or so,,,, but after that and a good deep cleaning and lubing it has been running flawless for the last thousand rounds or so, I use strictly my own handloads using a 124 grain HP made by a local manufacturer called rocky mountain reloading located in Lewiston Idaho close to where I live,,,, a bullet they call the "nuke" ,,,, AWESOME performing bullet,,, I load it to lower end of what could be considered +p by some loaders but just barely (right at 1200 fps in a 5 inch barrel and 1150 consistantly in the MC9) and is VERY VERY ACCURATE loading that uses a flash suppressed powder (Alliant BE86 powder),,,, anyhow yes the MC9 I one hell of an excellent little gun,,, like new offerings often they have some growing pains at first,,, most all do to some point,,, all the big names have had a flop or issues with certain models at one time or another,,, and often they are much pricier than the Canik by a long way,,,, for that price point the Canik delivers the goods in a HUGE way,,,, now that you got the MC9 you gotta go on Canik's web site and check out the threaded barrel they now offer for the MC9 and upgraded night sights, and the full +2 base plate mags so you don't have that sharp square edge at the back of the mag when inserted,,, bought 2 of the barrels 2 of the upgraded night sights and 4 of the mags recently for mine,,, anyhow I like Canik so well anymore so I got rid of all other brand pistols I own,,,, nice to keep all of one mag type to fit all in my collection instead of a dozen different ones for all the different brands and models (Canik is very muck like Glock as far as mag interchangability,,, LOVE that fact),,,,, ANYHOW give the MC9 a chance it's a really fine gun if ya ask me,,, I'm with Nutn it will be a big succes and in this day with so many fine choices out there that no small claim,,, Take care Nutn and Doodle and Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you and yours.... EDIT if you look for the full grip extension mags look in the pages with all mags for some reason they don't list them in the mags for only the MC9 page,,, just checked though and they are out of stock currently.

My EDC for the past 5 years has been Sig’s P365. Flawless operation without any issues after 1,000 plus rounds down the pipe. Bought a two-tone Mete MC9 last week. First time at the range resulted in 8 failures to fire in the first 125 rounds. Light primer strikes, nose of the FMJ ball ammo rounds that didn’t fire were damaged in the process. Various brands and weights of ammo. 115 and 124 FMJ as well as 147 JHP with random failures across all types. Contacted Canik and they asked for more info and photos then responded with a return label asking that I send it back for warranty service. Hoping for the best at this point. We’ll see how it goes. Would not recommend at this point.

I had bought one about 2 weeks ago from a local gun show. I have not fired any live rounds with it yet just been practicing with the aiming and sight coordination with my Stikeman Lazer practice set. About to shoot it this weekend with live rounds with 124 gr. That is what the guy at the gun show said to use for the first couple of boxes to loosen up the springs. Also take it apart and wipe the factory grease off of it and clean it well then oil with your standard oil you normally use. That will help with any jamming issues you might have. I will post a report after I shoot this weekend. It feels awesome! I am shooting average of 9's in a round of 20 shots at 15 to 20 yards with laser. Great for guys with smaller hands that want that 9mm with a good feel. I got the METE MC9 TWO-TONE.

Nice review. Have yet to buy a Canik and have heard nothing but greatness from the larger Caniks. Reviews are mixed on the MC9 and is the same size & weight as the Shield Plus. As my PC Shield Plus with its ported 4" barrel with fiber optic sights is one of my most accurate pistols, I feel there is no need to experiment on an iffy pistol. I was thinking about buying another 3.1" Sheild Plus as I could use the extra mags when shooting IDPA or ASI. I happen to love the loaded chamber indicator (have it on my Ruger SR9C, another fantastic, durable, reliable, & soft shooting pistol) as it is not only an indicator, but it also removes the open peep hole which carbons up your red dot window as it does on my Shield Plus, plus the fact the dot sits right over the breech face. I have found the red dot is useless on my Shield Plus, so I put it on my P365XL. The Shield plus is very accurate because of the nice crisp trigger along with my favorite fiber optic sights. Only my Springfield Ronin Elite 1911 in 10mm is as accurate, most likely because it too has a fantastic trigger with fiber optic sights.

I really like mine, it’s my everyday carry weapon. I have experienced failures to return to battery and dead trigger issues early on. Canik’s customer service is second to none, however and treated each of my issues promptly and at no charge, sending me the appropriate parts needed to overcome its problems. After replacing the recoil spring and the firing pin spring (they actually sent the entire pin assy.) since then, the gun has performed nearly flawlessly, and I carry it without reservation. I also have a TTI Combat which had similar issues out of the box, but a lighter recoil spring and a rather extended break in period has completed eliminated all performance issues. No one makes better commercial quality triggers than Canik, in my opinion . Trying to improve it with aftermarket triggers, seems like a waste of time and money. The TTI Combat is my absolute favorite handgun, while the MC-9 is my favorite carry. All the initial problems have been addressed by Century Arms for the latest Gen 2 production run. Meanwhile plenty of articles and videos had pointed out the guns flaws and listed the steps necessary to overcome them. Buy this gun with confidence, knowing that if you have issues, Canik’s excellent customer service will be available to guide you in correcting them.

Just bought my 2nd Shield Plus (a regular 3.1" w/3 dot white sights with a 4.5 lb. trigger) as it seems all my pistols go back to the factory for regular repair. So I thought I'd get a 2nd one to shoot a lot while carrying the other Shield (a PC Shield Plus w/4" ported barrel & fiber optic sights and a 4.25 lb. trigger pull) as it just came back from the factory. The Shield Plus has the same footprint and weight as the MC9 with an also excellent trigger, & it was on sale at Cabela's for $399.00 with a $50 rebate. Can't put a red dot on it but if you could the red dot would carbon foul up as it did with my PC Shield Plus, so I had to take it off. The red dot now resides on my P365XL where it gives no trouble. It looks like the Shield Plus may be more reliable but I get the occasional stovepipe, even after S&W servicing. I wonder if the barrel stock porting takes away enough pressure to give cycling problems.??... My Sig P365 & P365XL know the way back to the Sig factory as they have both been back 3 times... EACH. But before you encounter problems with these Sigs, they run 100%. I almost bought a Glock for the durability factor alone, but the 2nd Shield plus shoot so much better & now I have 6 mags for IDPA!

I've had very few issues with my CanikTP9SFX. All my issues were magazine related. I had one mag with a weak magazine spring, and I dropped one of the mags with the +2 extension perfectly to break the baseplate. That is with thousands of rounds in the Nevada hills. I stopped counting. It is still my go-to for 9mm range days. It is just too easy to hit with. I look forward to trying one of the MC9s. Hopefully they are just as reliable. I agree with Doodle though. I'll wait to buy when the market is a little more saturated for a good deal! EDITED FOR SPELLING.

I just got one in June for my EDC. Took it to the range ran Federal American Eagle 115 and 124 grain through it. Had a bunch of light strikes. Some 10 round mags 1-3 . I had my Rival S with me as well as my instructors Glock. Even ran the light strikes through them no problems. Definitely the gun. I love my Rival S. Just sent it back to Century to get it fixed. The MC9 shoots great. Idid a course of fire for my CCW. No problem with gun just light strikes on 8 out of 50. Sorry but will not give up on it. Hopefully I get it back sooner rather than later.

Canik has been on my radar for years but never picked one up. I've been the I own a couple handguns and i master it. The gen1 M&P which was sold for me after your video on it years and years ago. Had it for 13 years now and still love it. And the G26 for carry also loved and owned for years.

Likewise, may never pick one up. Don't know. Cutting back on getting new guns, more likely to have a few of the same thing than a bunch of different ones at this point. One platform and keep it simple kind of philosophy. At a time when it seems like more and more people are getting away from Glocks and going to the new micro-nines, I, as someone who was always lukewarm about Glocks, recently picked up a G27, my first personally owned Glock ever. And I'm perfectly happy with it. Would have been a G26 but needed to go with a .40 for reasons. Was changing my EDC pistol every couple of years. Just not going to do it any more. TLR-6 on it and the Leupold DeltaPoint Micro is a possibility.

I purchased the MC9 and I like all the accessories an the packaging. I give my MC9 a C+ rating. It checks more boxes than my Hellcat Pro but nowhere near as many as my M&P Shield Plus. I agree 100% with you about the mushy mag release. Racking the pistol is the biggest problem. The slide is much too tight and mine only remains in the lock position when there is an empty magazine inserted. The back sights are razor sharp and will cut your hands if you're not extremely careful. I see why you're wearing thick gloves. Shooting accuracy was decent and meets the requirement for a EDC pistol. I'll most likely keep it but I'm not in love. It certainly won't replace my EDC M&P Shield Plus.

I bought this and took it to the range. Range ammo was perfect, but with hollowpoints, it failed to feed repeatedly. Had a few out of battery issues. Sent it back to Canik, they replaced the spring and barrel. No problems at my first range trip back and tried a bit of everything with 300 rounds. Happy its working... I just need to test a couple hundred more rounds before I'm satisfied with reliability.

On Saturday I bought a used but unfired one made in Dec 23. Ran over 150 rounds through it yesterday to include 124gr Fmj and hollow points 115 gr fmj , 115gr 9bple +p+, and underwood 115 gr extreme defender. No malfunctions with any of those rounds and extremely accurate. I carried a p365 for 4 years and have owned a hellcat. The size of the Mete MC 9 is the sweet spot that I was looking for that is a balance between the p365 and my Glock 26. This pistol is solid.

Had mine for nearly a year. Had the mag slow to eject WHEN FULL but would eject fine when empty. Never did figure out why. It went away at about 700 rounds or so. Works flawless. Only failure I had was during competition when I was running my big 20 round stick in it. Never had a problem with the smaller mags that came with it. I’m a tack driver with it. I shoot it better than I do my larger guns at less than 20 yards. Love it.

Long story short I waited a few months in the hopes they would fix the issues at the manufacturer level. I finally bought one Jan 2024. I got the nastiest cheapest remain brass ammo I could find online ( I’m a baller on a budget ). So far it’s ran flawlessly. I love it and the fact all my rival mags are interchangeable.

I understand return to batter issues have pretty much been resolved by a replacement recoil spring. I just bought the MC9 a few days ago so I’ll find out this weekend at the range. It has also been said that some small burrs on the frame can cause the issue and simply sanding them down slightly resolves it. Again…. I’ll see this weekend. The mag release issue has not been resolved. My firearm was manufactured in November and has this issue. Squeeze the grip too tight, (pretty much any pressure at all), and the mag won’t drop. Not sure how Canik can fix this. Make the walls thicker and the gun is thicker. However, the fix is to wrap a mag in a couple of layers of painters tape and shove it into the well. Heat the grip for about two minutes with a hair dryer. Let the gun cool off. Remove the mag. Remove the tape. Try inserting and releasing the mag. Surprise! It works now.

This was my top choice for new EDC in 2023. I experienced tons of feeding issues with certain FMJ and JHP's and even on occasion with the ammo it seemed to like. I can't trust this gun as much as I enjoy shooting it when it's working. I recently got a new fluted threaded barrel from Canik which supposedly has an improved feed ramp but haven't shot it enough to confirm if it actually makes a difference

I think I have had the failure to return to battery twice. I have had a few FTF when shooting one handed which concerns me. I need to put a few more hundred rounds thru it but I have thought about letting it go. One handed shooting just seems like a very likely circumstance and I don’t like worrying about it performing. My MC2C has never ever failed me in any type of handling. I have nothing but confidence in that gun which is way under the radar.

I may in the future give this platform a try. Keep up the great work!

💯 I've been shooting Caniks since 2017. I compete un USPSA, IDPA & Steel Challenge. No issues, no complaints. I currently own 16 Caniks, all paid with my money, no sponsor from Canik or anyone else. Between all of the Caniks I own, I have over 75,000 rounds. No FTF, FTE, no double feeds, etc. Yes, both of my MC9 were first release versions when they hit the shelves & they had mag freely dropping issues. Called Canik, they sent new mag release buttons, all good. Best Out-of-the-box triggers, accurate, durable & always reliable.

I qualified with Staccato C2 (125/125), CZ Shadow 2 compact (115/125), Sig p365(125/125), and Canik MC9 (125/125)...The canik MC9 grouped the tightest. It was a March 2023 manufacture and I've had zero malfunctions through ~1000rds. I did a bunch of pre-emptive tinkering before shooting though. I filed/sanded the plastic frame to be flush with the metal locking lug/sear housing rails to remove friction during cycling (likely the cause of failure to return to battery for most folks). Next, I polished the barrel feed ramps (new barrels feature different feed ramp geometry). I took a full sized canik mag (18rd-size), placed masking tape on the sides, and heated the frame with a hair dryer. Mags drop free.

I have seen many different videos of this pistol being nit so reliable after putting roughly 500 rounds through it. But inhave also seen several other videos that illustrate the fix forbit and its simple enough, but canik has been aware of this problem and as far as I'm aware they have not fixed it. Without going into detail of the problem its just made to handle different ammo than what we commonly use and a few springs are to stiff. Spring co offers the replacement springs.
