Nutrition Tier Lists: Condiments

Let's all be honest and say that many meals suck without some kind of condiment. A sauce, a dip, a dressing. Just something to enhance the flavor of the more nutritious, and admittedly less tasty stuff. While, this may feel like an unnecessary addition to the series, I've been wanting to talk about the potential damage from overindulgence in condiments for a while, and what better way to do so than with a tier list?
All nutrient data is pulled from the USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

Your videos have encouraged me to add more types into my diet, even if they aren’t the star of the show. Sheer quantity can be off putting. I used to like sour cream and tolerate cottage cheese. Then I worked two summers being part of a 3 man team filling containers, assembling them into cases, and sending the cases to the warehouse. We filled about 1-2 tons of each product each day. After that I couldn't stand either of them. 35 years later, sour cream is back up to tolerable when a restaurant puts some on food, but if I ever get served cottage cheese again it would still be too soon.

I can highly recommend homemade pesto. It's easy to make, you only need a blender. Since the wild garlic season sadly is over now I suggest making a rosemary-garlic pesto. For my last one I used roughly 50-100g rosemary and a whole bud of garlic. Pine nuts are very expensive, so I used almonds. Otherwise basil pesto is good too, but it's a bit boring unless you use Greek basil (it's a lot more flavourful than normal basil). Overall: Try to make your own dips.

Just discovered your channel- awesome stuff! I’m sure these videos are a lot of work too! I’d really appreciate a video briefing your education/background concerning nutrition, and here’s a few tier list ideas as well: - cereals - different types of eggs - multi-vitamin/minerals on the market - supplement tier list - Different cuisines around the world - Bread products Again, thanks a ton for the videos! Putting some of the information you put out to good use in my own life. Looking forward to future content!!

I have been watching your videos since the first tier list. You are currently the best youtuber on the platform and your content changes lives. PLEASE do 1) a hobbies tier list, a 2) jobs tier list, 3) sports tier list, 4) cities tier list, 5) a character traits tier list, 6) habits tier list and a 7) supplement tier list. Lots of research out there on how things in these categories affect health, very similar to nutrition research. Thank you for your content, thank you for being there ❤

In light of this video, can I suggest a sweeteners tier list? It can include things like granulated sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, agave syrup (there are many types of syrup), molasses, stevia extract, sugar alcohols, and many more. Would be interesting to see what are the best and worst ways to sweeten my morning coffee!

would absolutely love to see a nutrition tier list on various cooking methods EG frying vs baking vs boiling, steaming, air frying, microwave, blanching, sous vide, grilling, smoking, slow cooking etc etc. I know that might not be easy considering it depends alot on the temperatures used, time cooked and what’s actually being cooked in the first place, but would be interesting to hear if theres any general trends / differences between certain cooking methods. (also phenomenal video as always, you’ve genuinely changed how I eat for the better! 😎)

As someone with a large supply of free eggs: whole egg mayonnaise is SUPER easy to make and you can add whatever spices you want. I usually preseason my mayonnaise since the fats will help store the flavor overtime making whatever dish it gets added to have a better depth of flavor

Another great, informative video. Most surprising were the ketchup (not as bad as I would have guessed), and the tahini, which I have in my pantry to make some hummus soon. I didn't know that tahini on its own could be so beneficial. Granted, there are other condiments and sauces that you could have covered, as noted in the comments - but the video would have been two hours long - or even longer! I always take a photo of the final ranking list and review them when I am planning food prep and also at the grocery. I appreciate you!

@@Talon_Fitness yes pretty much all grains can be converted into flour XD, but there still is coconut flour, all purpose flour, 00 flour, and supposedly many of them need to be enriched with minerals and all that because some get lost through the process, and some say whole grain flours are great, others argue they are barely nutritious, and I just don’t know who to believe, but seems like coconut flour is at the top, so I’ll go with that for now 😅 Whatever you decide is fine by me, I decided to believe in your content so that’s why I would like to know your opinion (tier list) xd

6:54. Some things to note about hot sauce: some hot sauces have a lot of sodium in them either from salt or MSG. Some hot sauce may have a lot of sugar too (like a mango habanero type) and the capsaicin (what makes it spicy) can upset your stomach if you eat too much

Hey Talon, I don't know if you ever read the comments, but I feel like making posters out of these tier lists would be very popular items, especially if one day you did a mega tier list of every food item ever. Like where do walnuts compare to cinnamon or steak? I know I'd buy it and hang it in a classroom or at home as a learning guide. Maybe each food group could be color coordinated so like all vegetables are green, fruit is blue, meats are red, etc? Also, an "S" tier menu with meals/snacks using just stuff from the S tiers on each list might be a pretty cool little cook book idea?
