I use obs to stream my church's services. I'm always looking for ways to improve so more people will stay home and not spread covid. You've helped me a lot this past year and maybe by helping me keep people at home, you may have even helped save lives. I'll be using this video to make a controller that will help me train someone to be my backup if I have to be gone. I really appreciate the work you do.

I'm in the process of setting this up for a smaller local church, but was curious what you used to stream the service? Do you use like a professional DSLR camera, Logitech Webcam, or something like a newer iPhone or something to stream it? I was just using my iPhone in landscape mode attached to a tripod. and then didn't know if it would be easier to have the pastor wear a wireless Microphone. Or if I should just use the audio from any mic, or wireless mic and add that to the stream in post processing and sync it up afterwards. (And when I say iPhone /DSLR/Webcam I mean using one of those hooked up to my laptop using OBS) Also do you use the El Gato cam link? Or something like a HD60 S? Thanks!
@oldms3 жыл бұрын
@@phlooke The lighting is pretty poor so we went with a Panasonic G7 as the camera. The iphone was too dark. We have a long hdmi cable feeding the signal back to the audio booth. From there its connected to an Elgato cam link. The church is the size of a basketball court so i had to have the camera about 60 feet forward to make it work. For audio I have a Zoom L20 connected to special outputs from our main mixer board so i have independent mixing capabilities from the main speakers. But originally I had a 2 channel interface like a Behringer UMC202HD hooked up to the stereo outputs from the main mixer to capture the same signal the main mix. If your church is small enough and well lit enough, you may be able to get a way with using an android phone/tablet and the CamOn or IP Webcam app wirelessly. I did something like that early on in covid just to get by until the better stuff showed up.
@phlooke3 жыл бұрын
@@oldms Thanks for the recommendations/ and telling what all you use 👊 I knew of other ways to accomplish what I was trying to do, but unfortunately I was using my own personal money and time as I volunteered to help them out. So didn't really have an extra couple hundred dollars to purchase equipment that I was only going to use just for recording/archiving / streaming services. I was however debating on buying a nice new camera and mixing gear and possibly using them afterwards as upgraded streaming gear for personal gaming streams but I've been busy with IT/Network Security jobs all during COVID since so many more people were using their home PC/network as their work setup. As for the Sanctuary, it's about the size of a basketball court as well (maybe a little bigger). Thanks again for the reply. Do you spend any time editing the services? Or are they good to go right after you record them?
@phlooke3 жыл бұрын
@@oldms Oh and I forgot to ask about when you were first getting started at the beginning of Covid before your nicer gear showed up. Which of those apps worked the best for you? The cam link (think that's the name, the one that is made by elgato) or the IP link app? I was using the El Gato cam app, but it has the option to buy the pro version for $8 and didn't know if that worked fairly decent? (Not necessarily for specific use for filming a church service but just as the easiest to use with the best quality), but I've noticed many people use their phone as a second cam on twitch for filming close up of things like opening packs of trading cards or as a static cam filming the streamers hand on their keyboard or mouse while they are playing games.

Almost exactly what I was looking for. I have no interest in OBS, but I've been using Autohotkey for years using mostly my Numpad keys to control lots of things related to music production in my DAW. I just bought a cheap Bluetooth numpad because I wanted to be able to control various things away from my desk, and I started researching how to differentiate between the external Bluetooth numpad and the one on my main keyboard. And I found no way to do this with Autohotkey (But if there is, I would love someone to point me in the right direction). I'm really not interested in OBS but the HID Macros sounds like the thing I need. A new journey begins!

I'm using (trying to use) a drawing tablet w/screen in a multi monitor setup and toggling between the different configurations manually is just too much. A cheap numeric keypad and HID macros is just what I need. Thanks for the tip. EDIT UPDATE : If you have trouble, like me, getting HIDMacros to work, try downloading an OLDER version. Current (now) is 2.3 and it wouldn't work on my Win 10, but version 1.5 works great.

I've been using HID-macros for a long time when I'm working in my editing/designing softwares (Photoshop, Illustrator, DaVinci, presonus, blender etc). HID-macros are absolutely addictive. I started with an external numpad I had laying around. The next thing I know there is an additional small full key keyboard with custom printed labels on every key. After a while you think everything can be solved by macros and that you actually might need a third full keyboard. Maybe even a keyboard for each software you use.

I own a stream deck, seeing the lcd icons on the button is 100% why I bought it. You can macro anything to buttons, but not the layering of buttons. For example you can have layout after layered layout without having to re-macro the entire deck. Something you can never do on a poor man's stream deck.

So just in case this is useful for someone... I have a small MIDI keyboard (MidiPlus AKM320) ..it does nothing but send midi channel, midi keys to windows (doesn't play notes or anything)). If you're running HIDmacros, it recognizes any keypress on the MIDI Keyboard as MIDI 1 Button 61 down.. So everything that's mentioned in the vid should work from the MIDI keyboard, just like it works from the num pad!!

I'm using a Dualsense to control OBS. I make custom keyboard shortcuts and map them to command in OBS, then I use Joy2Key to bind the keyboard shortcuts to buttons on the controller. It's fun and the viewers think it's kawaii. Side question: I want to bind the left and right d-pad buttons so that it lowers and raises the volume of a specific audio output. The only issue i can foresee is that the numbpad is still going to output a number at the same time. So, if you use "1" to macro switch scene in OBS and also "1" to change to a weapon slot in a game then it would do both.

No its not. That was the entire point of the video.

@@nuttylmao other software doesnt always understand the difference between a numerical keypad and the main keyboard though. Unless the macro software you are using prevents numpad inputs being registered by other applications?

As I explained in the video, HID Macros not only can differentiate between different keyboards, but it doesn't even send key inputs. It just runs the program that you tell it to run, which in this case is a custom made script that communicates with OBS directly. There are no key presses.
