Long live the magnificent moose. It's amazing how there's any left with all the threats against them from hunting, predators, road and railway killings. disease, loss of habitat, and global warming.

Hunting isn't a threat to them, in fact it's helping their conservation. Predators such as wolves and bears are killing them off as well as diseases and parasites. Hunting is limited for moose and regulations to help grow their populations are heaving funded through hunter dollars. Hunting is conservation.

Whether it's slaughtering majestic animals for their trophy antlers, or the giant bear scull...it's the same crap. Hunting dollars pay to making outfitters rich, and hunters dollars pay wildlife officials to turn a blind eye, and rarely benefit the animals. In FACT, trophy hunters are the main reason there is a decline in strong healthy bulls, as all the giant breeding bulls have been slaughtered for trophies, and small inferior bulls with weak genes are fathering the next-gen, which means..."inferior animals". I've been getting a license to kill a moose every fall since 1972. If I live until next year, that will be 50 years hunting moose, so don't waste your time attacking me by calling me a tree hugger, or a vegan, because I've shot more moose than you have years. I am truly aware of what the problems are, and you are only guessing, and speaking from what you feel, not experience. Trophy hunting should be abolished, and huge bulls with 12-14 points per side, should be illegal to shoot. They need to be left alive to breed stronger animals. If one were using the moose for eating purposes, a smaller bull, or a cow that didn't calf, make the best eating. The big old bulls are strong tasting & tough, and need to survive, because they are the only thing that keeps next-gen strong.

Why do they want the jaw? you might ask, so they can study its teeth to find out about the populations overall health, age and what the animals have been feeding on so they can see how the animals are being affected and if there is any disease within the population. Also do DNA tests to see if there has been inbreeding going on, and if so, tranquilize and safely move/separate the animals. Also the whole province I live in (Canada) is divided up into "areas" and your license is only valid for 1 specific area, again why? because the department of wildlife wants to control how many bulls, cows ect are taken from a certain area, to ensure a healthy population is maintained but with no overcrowding. Remember too many of a certain species will affect another species in a negative way, case and point is the Cain toad invasion in Australia. They need to be left alive to breed stronger animals." smh, bulls with 12-14 points per side have already been around for years and have had lots of chances to breed, let the younger bulls coming up have a chance. I could keep going on the rest of the shite you said but i've already wasted enough of my time trying to talk sense into someone who hasn't the slightest clue what they're talking about. BTW, the moose isn't going anywhere, they open Gros Morne National Park every year to hunting for god sakes because the moose is that overcrowded there and starting to push out other native species.
