Never watch TV after 2am. I am a sucker for the As Seen On TV crap and this time it was the folks at NuWave. Does their induction cooktop really make the grade or is it just another waste of money. We put it to the test and see what it really does.

I just got one for a gift. I am in the research mode right now. I'm thinking this will serve me very well. I cook for one and have problems with my electric stove. It is always too hot or too cool. The adjustments stink. I told my daughter of my problem and she sent me this. What a great daughter. We live 1600 miles apart and she did the next best thing. What a gal!

They weren't that expensive when new. Maybe 25.00? Shipping would kill you though. Iron isn't light. The device does feel like a substantial object. Probably from the copper coil; I can't see that you'd need to weight it like a cell phone. They do that so it doesn't feel flimsy.

We just bought a boat and don't want to heat up the small salon in the summertime by turning on the propane cooktop. When we're at a marina with an electricity source this looks ideal--no heat, no mess. It was recommended to us by the previous boat owner, but I wanted to see further for myself. Thank you for your great review. You've sold me!

I have owned a pic now for over a year. My only complaint is the cookware seemed to lose most of it's not stick properties over time. The cooktop still works the same as it did on the first day. One other small complaint is the flexible covering over the keys has developed a small crack over the plus button. Nothing severe but still worth mentioning. I use mine every day and really like it.

We have the cooktop and my wife loves it. Precise heat making cooking so much easier. The cooktop is warm from the heat of the pan transferring heat to the plastic. It has nothing to do with the operation of the pan. What we like best is that when something is spilled on the cooktop it does not burn because it does not get hot enough.

I simply LOVE mine. I bought it directly from the NuWave website. But be forewarned, you get the 1 cooker and 1 skillet. They offer the second cooker along with the rest of the pots and pans, which cost extra; and the processing fees for all are stupidly expensive!! Then, if you would like the lid sets, that's also a separate cost; as-well-as the spoon set. In all, my entire order totaled just shy of $400.00 bucks. However, ... in my honest opinion, this product is worth every red-penny. The cookware is of a very nice quality as well. I actually almost expected to receive a cheaply made set of pans, but it's all a very high quality package that will last for many, many years, ... cheers!

I thought they were decent. We got the earlier one, have 2 pans, both stupid, odd sizes so you can't use your old ones, and the pot w/skewers. We got 2 induction units. With shipping in 2016 or 17, it was 203.00. Be careful in hospitals when bored, that's how we wound up w these! Lol They boil a cup of water equal to a gas stove on high (no lid). Haven't tried more water or used a lid in my experiments yet. They're slightly lighter and very slightly less quality than the Italian made cookware ceramic set in great I bought in...2021 for...250, was it? They're speckled grey. Lifetime warranty. All have lids. Or several at least. NONE fit these pans. They're all stupid, odd sizes. 9.5 and 10.75! Probably just use the larger one and let it hang over if it's safe. Dummies. Just make it match the pans, and most people (women, of course) like when stuff goes together! For me, tho, it makes it WAY harder to get rid of any part I don't use! Because its a SET! LOL. I'll be VALUABLE kept together (no. Probably not)

It was the exact same time using gas w no lid, just saying. They were identical. I haven't tried anything else yet. But the fact they make these in dumb, odd sizes so you HAVE to buy their expensive lids makes me annoyed. I'd use this for the less space and no residual heat thing. Or in a camper.

Does this pan come with the purchase of this? Or is this extra? Great review - I appreciate you going into the heat of the stove without the pan on this. This could really help in making the decision for a purchase! I'm glad that the actual burner area stays warm, rather than hot. That has been my hesitancy in making this type of purchase. Most of these have an active heating diameter of only about 4-6 in. So you have to "stir fry" everything to some level. While this is certainly a review of the cooktop, it's more of a combo review of the cooktop and the cheap pan that they include. So that's might limit the performance in some ways, but help in others. Since the primary part of the pan (magnetic heating part) is so minimal, the heat distribution isn't helped much. Conversely, since the material is so light (less mass), the efficiency of it is better, which increases the speed of heating and lowers the loss of energy from the residual heat dispensed after cooking.

I dunno. Boiling a cup of water on this vs. gas, the time to full boil was the exact same. Pans weigh only very slightly less. Than nice ceramic (and I despise ceramic b/c it sticks; mine don't) They didn't come with lids to stop spatter and they're not standard size, either. At least not the pans you get from them. Small one is 9.5, large is 10.75. Yup. Dumb as hell. Lol. I have no lids. If you did, you could make the whole thing faster, yes? I didn't compare lidded pan on gas to induction w/o yet.

We have been using an induction range for almost three years now and everything cooks quick. I place paper towels or thin kitchen towels under the pots so I won’t have to do a lot of clean up. Neither paper towel nor dish towel burned 👍 so far 😊 This is great when cooking bacon or any spatters from soup stews and whatever else. I miss not being able to use my ceramic tagines or my copper cookware. I thought about buying a special plate that would allow me to use the none induction cookware. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do these actually have closed loop feedback based on the actual temperature at (or near) the bottom surface of the pan? Or is it just an arbitrary "temperature" setting where it just adjusts the on off time based on the preset and not actually adjusting the average power in response to the temperature. IF it DID sense the pan temp you would think displaying that actual* temp would be an option.
@BurningcerealShow
@BurningcerealShow 7 ай бұрын
I think for $79 (at the time of filming) it isn't that advanced. If it was able to tell the temp of the pan the cost would be much higher.

I have an old (at least 7 years old) induction cooktop. Have loved almost everything about it except its low heat output. Mine seems to be Digital meaning its either on or off. If I'm trying to simmer something the unit comes on for 30 sec followed by being off for 30 sec. Which causes what ever to boil for 20 or so sec then it turns off then repeats. I am wondering if they have been able to make the low heat setting better or if it still just cycles off and back on? maybe you could make a follow up video showing how the low heat setting act with say Soup or sauce reduction? I realize its been 3 years since you did this video and may have moved on from induction or this particular unit. Its all the same to me would like to see the demo on what ever induction unit you have. (I am wanting to up grade but mine still works fine just the low heat deal brothers me) nice video

Does your unit have a clicking noise (like it's cycling power on and off) at lower temperatures?

Your butter demonstration was kind of confusing. Under the center inside the cooktop is the inductive coil. When turned on with out a pan on top, it will never get hot. When the inductive skillet is placed on top, the skillet itself gets hot and it is the skillet that the heat comes from. Because the skillet itself is hot, that heat radiates down into that coil inside the cooktop underneath the skillet. You placed the butter too close to the skillet after the skillet had heated the coil inside of the cooktop. The entire heat radiation is from the skillet and not the cooktop. Any heat from the cooktop itself is because it touches the hot skillet. .......... I wish Nuwave would have placed the "START" button on the right like they did with braille bumps on the button, but placed the "OFF" button on the left with braille bumps. Blind people and old people have the hardest and actually one of the most dangerous times in their days as when they need to cook. The cooktop is actually a safer way to cook. Old people forget things and blind people could be confronted with an emergency very quickly. If everyone knew the start was always by itself on the right and off was always on the left, then it would be quicker to shut it down in emergencies. .......... It is common for old people to simply remove the skillet or it's contents without shutting off a traditional flame stove. If the skillet is simply removed, the cooktop will shut down. On a flame stove, the flame itself is dangerous. The way it is now, you have to feel around on the right side and figure out where the off button is once you find the on button. .......... Plus, it would be nice to have a 1/8" audio port on the side of the cooktop to plug a speaker in. Anytime a temperature change is entered, it could say it out loud. Both the blind and old could benefit if they can't see the readout.

THE BUTTER MELTED BECAUSE YOU HAD THE HOT PAN ON IT! The hot pan heated the glass from previous use. The induction cooktop will not heat the glass in the least on it's own. Try touching the glass top AFTER it cools, and you restart the cooktop.

I appreciate your comment, but I don't think the glass was still hot from previously cooking. Even when I touched it, it was very warm.

@@BurningcerealShow, i’m telling you. The glass will not heat up without metal on top of it. There is one way to prove my point: as long as you don’t have metal in your hand, place your hand on the glass far enough, away from the pot, yo where you know it’s not from conduction of heat from the pot and turn it on. The glass will not be hot, if it does not have metal above it. Think about it: there’s just magnetic wires below the glass. Nothing that will get hot. It’s the magnetism that is created, that vibrates the molecules in the metal pot, that caused the food to get hot, and the underlying glass to get hot. The glass will not get hot from the magnetic wires

@@BurningcerealShow, i’ve had the exact same PIC2 for many years as well. It when they first came out with it. They don’t even make it anymore. But to get to the point, physics and the way these induction cook tops function, there is no way the glass is going to get hot without something on the surface heating the glass. It will not heat on it’s own. It’s not like an electric oven with a glass top, that has a heating element below. It functions similar to a microwave. A microwave vibrates water molecules, and heats materials up that contain water… this one works to vibrate the metal molecules in the pot, which heat the food. The glass would need to contain some type metal for it to get hot. I just tried it out. I placed a pot halfway on the “burner“, and put my hand on the glass next to the pot. I could feel heat coming off of the sides of the pot, but the glass remained cool. If my hand wasn’t there, and the pot stayed there long enough, the heat radiating from the sides of the pot are going to heat the glass cooktop

You said you'll see how it works in 6 months ~ how is it after this long. Do you still like it? For the next 2-3 years we are living such that I have no regular stove with a cooktop to cook with. I have a toaster oven and several counter top appliances and I am looking for a burner. The first one I bought, it cuts off and on to maintain temperature, I don't like that. Does this one do that??

if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan (with cast iron it should) your good to go. These units use a magnetic field to excite the molecules in the pan, which is what causes the heat. Yes the pan itself is what heats up this is why these cookers are so efficient.

Anyone know a good way to clean these? I make some salsa turkey burgers daily for post workout meal and have noticed it's starting to diminish for non-stick factor and blackened melting from the burger needs scrubbed off afterwards. I just use a cloth with light pressure and hot water and that gets most of it but some residue seems stained on it. I usually cook them at the med high setting for about 5 minutes on each side. Is that too high a temp? And any ideas in cleaning without ruining the pan?
