God bless Mike Hermans for doing sensible demo versions of amp/cab sims instead of just playing metal tones like almost everyone else.

Metal tones are the WORST tones for demonstrating gear - any gear. Amps, pickups, pedals, speakers - it just doesn't matter...

Great playing Mike - I now own a Nux Solid Studio (s/n NSSi8A10424). But there is a major feature of this pedal that (afaik) no professional nor amatuer reviewer has ever mentioned. This pedal is first and foremost a fixed reverb pedal. If you listen to this video knowing this fact you will notice a lot of reverb on the mix. I appreciate *now* that you do tell us that all FX come from the pedal. But I wish you had told us that this is a fixed reverb that is part of the Power Amp sim, and it cannot be turned off or adjusted in anyway (other than not using the Power Amp section at all). This is an important fact that would deter some users - especially if they want to use their own reverb with this pedal. I think this is why most reviewers use long delays to obscure this negative feature. But - it's not a bad reverb. So for some users with simple needs this can be a major postive. Since the reverb is fixed it really doesn't matter much that the ir's are truncated so any room reverb is lost. I have Digitech CabDryVR pedals that are dual mono and much more versatile for cab emulation without reverb. But the power amp section of the Solid Studio is what makes this easier to use with pedals. Be warned that the power amps section is very noisy (white noise hiss) with gain and/or presence above noon. But so are real tube amps. I have old Roland and Line6 multifx pedals that offer a wider range of power amps and cabs and mics and reverb with much less noise. With the IRs being truncated so much it really doesn't matter much whether the cab sims are IRs or models. In that regards a cheap Pod or guitar processor can probably do much more than this simple pedal - but I apprecate that some people can't program via a menu and need to have knobs. For a simple pedal rig this is quite useable. But had I known about the fixed reverb I would not have purchased this.

Really nice job on this demo! The box seems to respond VERY well to pick attack and subtlety. On thing that would have helped me is if the sounds were dry.p (effects sounded really nice but I would have liked to hear how it sounded without processing. Also, some humbucking sounds in neck position would help give an idea of how it responds to different instruments. Again, really excellent job demoing and playing.

Worth noting that the Solid State needs 9v at 500mA, which means some power supply bricks won't have enough juice. I should fess up. MY power supply had only 300mA. The results were... interesting. The pedal is a beast, but how accurate the sims are is beyond me. But it sounds good, and that's all that matters, eh?

great and systematic review... Great choice of riffs to capture the sound of each combination. Anyway I'd like to use the Nux in advanced connection mode. I am aware of the fact, that using the tube amp (I have 1964 Fender Princeton Amp) without load would damage the output transformer of the amp. Anyway I can't really use the through output of Nux Solid studio stompbox as far as the speaker cable of my vintage speaker is too short and can't reach the nux. Can I use the Fender's paralel speaker output (external speaker output) while the main speaker output is plugged into the original speaker providing the load for the output transformer of the amp and I would use the Nux from the external speaker without load / through output plugged just for capturing the simulated cabinet for the PA? This would make use of the nux much simpler and I believe that it would make life lot of vintage Fender combos owners easier...

Correction - MY specific Solid Studio has a fixed reverb. Maybe it's something that can be defeated in software? I haven't downloaded any software yet - I wanted this to be a standalone pedal out of the box. I've just found a utube demo of this which appears to be dry. maybe it's a different OS. I think from your video you appear to have added reverb since there is reverb at 1:30 when you have the pedal DI but turned off. My pedal clearly has reverb when the power amp is switched on. (I own a Bricasti and many other reverb units - I know what reverb is).

Just used this pedal today for the first time it it definitely needs its own power supply. I was running a small boss power supply with a line filter built in and it solved all of my problems even with single coil pickups this thing is dead quiet just don't daisy chain it with any gain pedals whatsoever and you're good to go.

It has fixed reverb? How stupid is that! I had not heard that in several other demos. Otherwise I was on my way to buying one. Mike does work with the clean tone, while other demos just go for Bon Jovi stadium distortion. Mike has the chops and confidence to go with fingers... Still he is struggling a bit to get it to warm up and not be so wiry sounding. He sort of gets there but in the end needs an OD pedal to thicken it up--which is ok, too. Ultimately this seems a great tool for many uses where it can make life a bit simpler even though you might lose some fidelity. The fixed reverb thing is just SO stupid. Why have a pedal providing hundreds of subtle options but then slap some crappy reverb all over everything. It's like going to a pretty decent restaurant where they serve everything with ketchup on it... Just unforgivable!!! I mean, at least have a knob with 3 or 4 reverb choices - - one of which should be none. Why force couple that to the power amp function? I'm so disappointed after investing an hour into listening to demos on this thing...
