I mostly agree. But I will say in the newest book it states the trial of the grasses is impossible now cause they lost the major parts of the mutations to make a witcher. They have gotten extremely unstable and reduced the survivability of the trial of the grasses to basically 0%. Meaning Ciri going through the trial of the grasses breaks book lore

Well, Yennefer was interested in re-discovering the Trial of Grasses mutation formula. It was an approximation back then. The book Yennefer was an extremely competent sorceress. So, it’s not that big of a stretch if Yennefer solved the formula and/or improved upon it.

Oh yeah. Witcher 3 was my entry and I went straight to the books. The lore is pretty cool. From what I remember, magic is also seen as something like a chaos energy or entropy. If I remember correctly, magic is a by-product of the event itself. There was so much chaos energy brought about by that cataclysmic event that it engulfed the realms that got caught in it. And the water, air, earth, and fire mentioned aren't exactly the elements you *use* like in Avatar: The Last Airbender and whatnot. Rather, these are where you draw magic from. You can draw magic from water and cast a fire spell if you want, or draw magic from earth and cast a water spell. Point is that you're only drawing magic from these sources. So fire magic isn't exactly forbidden. But drawing magic *from* fire is forbidden. It can endanger the caster directly, and is supposedly somehow intoxicating and addicting so you can't just "try it out." I love the lore about how the monsters are creatures from different worlds that got thrown into theirs. Of course, it would throw the ecosystem off and endanger every living creature in it. And it makes sense that people will try to find a solution fir it: the Witchers. A bunch of mutants who dedicated their lives to killing monsters. Which comprises a lot of wisdom and knowledge, not just skills. That's why a Witcher's fight start with preparation. Understanding the creatures they're hunting, knowing exactly what they're weak to, and having the physical capability to pull it off. Hoping there's a video in there that's specifically talking about the monsters and their newfound ecosystems.

All my knowledge of the Witcher is from Gwent. Was fun seeing all the card art used in these videos. There's a surprising amount of lore you can learn just from the card game from card flavour text, art and gameplay. I'd love to learn what the deal is with relicts for example. Since we’re diving into the lore of the witcher which heavily involves Ciri and her family tree it only made sense for her to be the protagonist after Geralt got his ending in witcher 3, be that either alone in Corvo Bianco or with Yen or Triss.

It makes all the sense. That's probably why they are doing it. People saying that women can't be witchers are technically correct, but Ciri isn't and has never been a witcher, she was trained by witchers, but she is basically stronger than a witcher and that was the case in the books and in W3. She is less experienced in monster killing than witchers, but she is way mroe powerful in terms of inate magical power.

Let me tell you a couple of three things about Ciri: Her elder blood makes her exceptional, so if there's an exception to a rule, it's her. Of the many endings to Witcher 3, her becoming a Witcher and witchering around with Geralt is supposed to be the canonical one. And if you look closely, her Witcher medallion is not a wolf, but a cat, which represents a different school of Witchers.

The thing with people dunking on Witcher 4 Ciri being a witcher is NOT political and has nothing to do with misogyny. There is a reason in the lore why witchers were made by mutating only boys. As a child while she was staying at Kaer Morhen the other Witcher mixed the mushrooms and plants that make up the ingredients for Witcher mutagens into her food. In the books she was just hitting puberty around that time. So along with her training she developed peak physical condition. When Triss gets there she makes them stop other wise her body wasn’t going to have enough natural fat to develop as a woman. The gap between Ciri and a witcher isn’t as big as people make it. The main difference is magically and honestly Ciri would have to nerf herself to be on par with a Witcher she’s so much more powerful, and could have been trained to be a full sorceress if that were something she wanted. My theory for Witcher 4 is that she holds the tittle but is choosing to only use magic that mimics a witchers style. That could be why it looks a little buffet in the trailer, it uses different colors. The only thing that doesn’t explain is why she is able to drink potions. It’s probably an exception that they will make for gameplay reasons, but Witcher potions are supposed to be toxic to everyone else.
