NVC 715: Nintendo Just Won E3 2024

We had what is likely the final "Big" Nintendo Direct of the Switch era, and what a way to go out. Not only was the Direct full of legitimately pleasant surprises, there was enough crammed into its over-40 minutes of length so all but the most curmudgeonly and cynical of Nintendo fans could find something to love. From Mario and Luigi: Brothership, to The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, to the final big "thought we'd never see it" gameplay reveal of Metroid Prime 4, this really was an amazing event. Hahaha bravo NVC, you really got the engagement on this one. So many outsiders here just to challenge the video title. Of course there is no actual "winning" since there wasn't actually an E3 or an official competition of any kind between the companies, but I'm sure it was done tongue in cheek. Unfortunately and unsurprisingly though, people have to take it personally. As a Nintendo guy, this is the only presentation that mattered to me and it definitely delivered, but it sounds like the Xbox presentation was awesome for people who play on that platform. Sounds like everyone has a reason to be happy, no need to argue.

lol nah. It was a quality show, but let's be real MP4 was the only AAA size game on display. Everything else were rereleases or new entries that feel more AA and small in scope in nature. Conversely, Editorials are written by the senior staff of the publication and therefore can be taken as the general opinion of the organization itself. This is a podcast and therefore a conversation rather than a journalism piece, but the point is that news/media orgs have always had spaces for their employees to voice their individual opinions, even if they conflict with the opinions of others within the company or even with the leadership. More importantly though, it's just a title meant to convey excitement and satisfaction with the Nintendo direct. There was no actual competition taking place, so no one can actually "win".

Arlo made a great argument against Echos of Wisdom. The "2D" Zelda games were where fans of the traditional formula for Zelda could go to get that experience and Aonuma is now taking that away through breaking conventions and over iterating

The problem with MP4 is that we've waited 7 years to finally see something and this is all they show, there's nothing in this trailer that we haven't done in previous games. They need to show what the new twist is if there even is one, perfect example being Zelda Echoes and the twist that you can play in a new way as Zelda which makes it way more interesting than a traditional Zelda
