Since earlier announcements, I was rooting for Intel to come up with actual competition against both AMD and NVidia - not only in performance levels but on cost: both manufacturers are milking their customers on a tad too high. My only concern is regarding the recent Intel revenue announcement, and how many business divisions they drop because of it. While the graphics division didn't have any announcement, I hope they don't pull the plug in such earlier days and leave the engineering team to continue making progress. Fingers crossed Mr. Gelsinger keep supporting this group.

I started boning up on this since there announcement and when I found one @microcenter I got one. If you know people in the market for a new card steer them in that direction. The A770 16gb card is well worth the price! and if enough are sold that will keep Intel going an hopefully we will see there next gen of gpu's.

well, looking in the progress at intel graphic division currently, it'll be a huge mistake to shut down this division. you know Intel already occupy almost 10% of gpu market share now. leaving AMD with just 16% and the rest goes to nvidia. AMD used to have almost a quarter of this share in 2021.

Yeah I think that will be more of what we see, intel & AMD fighting over that 20-30% but taking hardly any from nVIDIA, as we have seen even at much better Performance for the $$$ for AMD 6600-6800XT nVIDIA is still massivly outselling them due to mindshare.

Like intel have never milked their customers. AMD five year life span on the motherboard platform. While you are lucky to get 2 years out of an intel before you have to upgrade your motherboard. While amd are making money intel have lost billions. If intel keep going the way they are going even the CPU division will be in trouble. and before you call me an AMD fan boy. I picked up an A380 back in august 2022 on release and yes it was somewhat of a hot mess and after playing around with it for a few weeks I put it on the shelf. I picked up an A770 late last year to go along with it and revisited both and the driver improvements were remarkable. Most of my early issues were gone and all benchmarks and games ran fine. A380 = Nvidia 1650 in performance. A770 is right up there in 3070 land. Both are worthy cards at this point and just getting better for their price ranges.

One thing to note, I'm pretty sure the A770 works better with DDR5 (most likely because of the faster speeds working well with ReBAR) and Intel 12th or 13th gen CPUs. Most of the people I've seen that have had any issues with ARC are almost always using an AMD CPU or DDR4. Maybe something to consider for future videos or to test.

I never had any of the crashing problems that the reviewers talk about. I got my asrock challenger a380 at the end of August, paired with 12400 on a h670 d4 board with a clean windows install. Driver updates cleared up some strange texture issues, such as how text rendered on buttons in dx9 titles. The Arc control still needs some attention. In particular, the security popup, video capture auto file naming, adding hot keys to turn capture on/off. I look forward to future updates this is quite promising.

I've owned one since launch week. I can say that the driver improvements have really brought this card all the way from a joke to a serious contender. I run Modern Warfare II at 1440p Ultra settings (w/ NIS upscaling) and I get on average 100-120fps (paired w/ a 12600k), sometimes higher, and very rarely lower. You still technically need to use DXVK for certain games, but even then that might not be true for long; word is a second major update is in the works, and it's apparently gonna resolve one of the bottlenecks that was holding back the A770 from using all its power.

@@testickles8834 This is not only anecdotally false, but also easily debunked using some commonly-known formulas. The best one would be the PPD formula, which is used to calculate when a display attains retina level of sharpness. PPD ofc depends on some distance, but at a viewing distance of about 2.5 ft a 1440p 27inch monitor will have a PPD of 60, above the 57 necessary. That's the objective part, but as someone who uses both 1080p and 1440p regularly the difference is absolutely noticeable. Hate to assume intent, but comments like this tend to be made by people who don't have the means to experience such things (which is understandable) and are just coping. If you think there's more objective weight to your claim than I'm giving it, I'd love to hear it.

One issue with the A770 is that it absolutely requires PCIe 4.0, and most people are still using systems which do NOT have PCIe 4.0. These Intel cards CAN technically run on PCIe 3.0, but the performance ends up being hurt so badly that the performance becomes completely unacceptable (losing more than 80% of your fps), so you might as well be running pretty much anything else at that point. It's not like with the RX 6500 XT and 6400, which also requires PCIe 4.0 for full performance, because those can still get maybe 80% of the performance on PCIe 3.0 systems, or 100% with reduced texture detail, which could still be considered worthwhile for many. It's funny how the most likely reason that someone would want to have PCIe 4.0 so far, is to be able to run some mid-range and low-end graphics cards. PCIe 4.0 might also become more useful and relevant for SSDs some time soon, but even a lot of professional users would probably still be fine with SSDs running on PCIe 3.0 (but any professional user should probably be getting a PCIe 4.0 capable system if they're buying today, as it's not an expensive feature to be able to have). It often takes years for the latest standard to become relevant even for many professional/ workstation workloads, and some standards or features never become widely adopted or very relevant.

Because every manufacturer told me to not even bother trying to run 128GB DDR5 on current gen Ryzen or Intel and would you risk $1,000+ on memory and motherboard that probably won't work? The G.Skill Ripjaw 128GB 3600MTPS kit I've installed is running stable at 3450MTPS on XMP1. I don't know much about memory overclocking but I feel I'm pushing the memory controller to the edge and this system needs to run all day with no crashes.

I built a low cost AMD 4 with a Ryzen 5600G. I use a nivida 1050 strictly for handrake encoding, still using the 5600's as the graphics output. HDR is horrible on my other nivida cards as well, not a gamer. I am intrigued by using the intel card for encoding, or as a main output card , as long as the color gamut and HDR is better than nividas cards. Using AMD's built in encoders the color is way off. Anybody have ideas on this? and does the intel cards have built in quick sync encoding?

I recently built a new PC using an A770 LE along with a i5 12600K & Z690 ASUS TUF motherboard. Runs perfectly fine for the games I play (ex. CyberPunk, Halo Infinite, MW2, CS-GO) on High/Ultra settings in 1440p with a 1656Hz display. I even mess around with it using my first gen HTC Hive....again all works fine for me. As for Halo Infinite, I turned off that light reflections and those weird artifacts went away. I'm hoping that when Intel releases the latest drivers, it will be an even better card.

I recently sold off my 3070 and was in a drawn out process of picking a replacement. Got an RX 6800 XT openbox from Newegg, but it had a defective heatsink with a literal hole in one of the heat pipes. The card also had some very strange boosting issues that I couldn't ever nail down. Returned that and managed to get another 6800 XT, this time a Red Devil. I was so excited for this card, except the absolutely insane coil whine... it was louder than my air purifier maxed out. I was then in a bit of a pickle and had been given the option to get an A770 direct from Intel, but I never received a follow up. I then decided to avoid my bad luck with AMD cards... and settled for a 4070 Ti since my history with Nvidia has always been positive, aside from the cost. There is a part of me that wants to abuse the lenient return policies of Amazon, again, and grab an A770. The only thing holding me back is that I require absolute stability, and I don't think Intel can quite guarantee it yet. I will be following their progress and will definitely consider the future generations as I, like most people, are tired of AMD and Nvidia using whatever excuse they want to justify massive price increases for essentially no gain.

Because Intel has fully open source drivers and hardware support, the Intel ARC cards have huge potential to be massive in the Linux space for use in gaming, media encoding and serving (especially for AV1), streaming systems, media servers, etc. HOWEVER, the hardware support for ARC is not really included until Linux Kernel 6.1+, which you will not be seeing appear in popular Linux distros until about 2H23.

Arc seems like something Intel sould try and get to pair with their K chips, Much like how AMD allowed crossfire on older APUs and certain GPUs. I remember back in 2014 I bought a PC and it had a A10-6700 and there was a list of certain HD and RX GPUs that it could crossfire with but I would have needed to buy a motherboard that allowed crossfire. They could call it Arc Fusion lol.

I would be interested to know what CPU was used to test the Arc? Your video 2 weeks ago tells me you changed to AMD and that tells me if you added the Intel Arc to it it won't work proper. Ghosting and glitches are result of using the AMD CPU on this Intel card. Resizable BAR enabled and 12th or 13th gen CPU is needed. Yes 10th gen is in requirements but it really is not enough. The GPU heavily rely on CPU and not just any CPU. The architecture of AMD is different so close but no cigar as you noticed. I don't know if this is a bad or a good thing that you need to spend a little more on late chipset and CPU to gain better benchmarks and glitch free from affordable GPU. Personally I think it is a good thing as having the latest basics will give long life to your build. It would also make sense for Intel to make GPU that works better on Intel CPU.

My puter has AMD 5800 x3d and 32gb of memory aside from a few visuals I;m waiting for future driver updates to really see the potential of this GPU. Intel has come a long way since the i740 days. I ran some benchmarks in some of my games and it's 100 to 150 @1080p. I'm willing to give them time to fix what needs to be fixed and make improvements on software too. To me it's pretty easy to use if you want to kick it up a few notches and get a little out of it. With the price and hardware issues that seem to plague the others I consider this an exceptional value for what I paid for this card ...350.00?!? Look at what the others cost first.

If I recall correctly, there was still a ton of prerelease, beta software using Intel's media engine and things worked well. Now, for example, HandBrake uses Intel's AV1 decoder/encoder in their release software. Here's the title of EposVox's video, "Intel's WORLD FIRST GPU AV1 encoder was worth the hype | Intel AV1 vs X264 vs NVENC/AMF/QSV"; it's a good place to start researching. Also, Intel makes an even less expensive Arc graphics card, the A310. All of Intels "A" series cards have the same media engine, as best I can currently recall.

I'm an EVE Online player, and the card is able to run 4 accounts of that game simultaneously in windowed mode using a 5120x2160@72Hz monitor (the LG 40" one). While it's going balls out at 100% usage doing this and my old 3090 does much much better, at $350 I am not at all unhappy. I am considering A770 myself, but my biggest concern aren't FPS in the AAA titles - with games like Cyberpunk or RDR2 it's obvious that Intel is spending a lot of effort on optimization because that's what most people look at. What I'm worried about are the obscure/older titles where Intel didn't have a chance to do any real optimization. Linus made a video on this topic when the card came out where they ran multiple old games, and more often than not, the older games ran either horribly or even had issues starting in a first place. Sadly they haven't made any new video after the driver updates and it's incredibly difficult to find any KZbinrs doing proper testing of other titles than the standard AAA titles where the performance was solid already when the card launched...

i have had an acer a770 since late nov, from dual 1070's, honestly, not had any problems dxvk didnt solve with legacy titles, but often i already had dxvk installed in those games, because it solved perf issues and sometimes other issues by being able to mask a card as another vendors, mostly for TWIMTBP titles.. but either way, dx9 titles as old as farcry run f-ing amazing at 1440p on this card, i have not found a game thats given me real problems, and i have older titles.. for farcry (original) dxvk is a must, BUT its also a must if you want silky smooth play on nvidia as well, the .1% lows and 1% lows are often crap on the default dx9 path, dxvk... well my min fps is higher them the 165hz of my monitor now even with a heavy reashade applied over dxvk.. same is true for most old titles.. at worst, you need to install dxvk to get them up and running.. at worst.. there are a few people making more up-to-date videos now, one fellow is going back to some of these old classic titles and testing with and without dxvk thanks to my pushing him on discord to do so.. look up "Tech Guy Beau" and yes his title is clickbait for the latest video, he knows it... heh. anyway hes got more coming soon, he had to buy the original far cry and some other old titles like crysis 1 to test.... honestly dxvk is a godsend not just to linux gamers but to those of us playing old titles on windows as well.

To me it depends on how good ARC is doing in old games since I like to replay games like first FarCry, Quake 3 Arena, NFSMW and so on; don´t need 300fps in those old games (haven´t played those framerates back than in those games and don´t need to now) but upscaled to 2K or 4K and 120/ 80fps with no huge framedrops is required for me to concider ARC. Even a GTX 770 or R9 280X are capable of 120fps in upscaled 2K Borderlands TPS so a modern ARC should do the 120/ 80fps why more consistent than those ancient GPUs. If they can do that, I concider ARC.

I was genuinely sad when I saw they were requiring ReBar, and I'm holding out hope future products might not. My current systems are both X99 BDW parts and the platform never had ReBar support enabled so buying any of this series would have been useless. I also have a 3080 in my primary system so even once I upgrade it's unlikely Intel will have a faster part at a low enough price for me to justify as I tend to hold onto my hardware until it dies or is a noticeable bottleneck. I'm certainly rooting for their success as the current market situation is quite frankly cancerous and there's no sign amd/nvidia have any interest in changing things. I just hope for a product I can use myself!

At 3080 territory you probably wanna move on from X99 anyway. I know it's terrific platform and I still keep mine around but my 5960X at 4.5GHz is not enough to get every ounce of performance from a mere 6900XT... in fact it was missing up to about 30-40% performance (!) depending on the title. The only reason I didn't jump on 4090 is because for the same price I've got 7700X, Asus ProArt X670, 32GB DDR5 5600 on top of 6900XT (I've upgraded GPU first from 1080Ti)

@@Micromation Both AMD and Intel are running outside of their efficiency curve (which can be fixed, but then you're paying for performance you're not getting which fundamentally rubs me wrong), AMD decided to build a terrible IHS which holds back efficiency, and I use 24 lanes of PCIe or I'd already be on 1700 or AM5. I can get around the lane usage by buying a new 10gb card as I already eliminated my other cards, but that adds to price of a new platform. As long as my setup works I'm perfectly happy waiting to see if whatever comes next is more in line with what I'm looking for across the board (crossing fingers that Intel's forthcoming 2400 series carries the same price premium as old HEDT did vs desktop).

The performance has definitely improved. But I will still not buy the Intel card even though I am looking for a GPU right now - even though it has AV1 encode (I rarely edit some videos), even though it has good RT performance (I doubt A770 will be enough to play RTX remix games as supposedly it can't even start Portal RTX). As I mostly sit and browse internet the idle/media playback power usage is important to me and it is terrible on Intel Arc. I also plan to go back to old, unpopular games like Cossacks: European Wars from time to time. I can't risk having 20 yo games stuttering or not running at all without any real hope for fix. When it comes to GPUs stronger than A770 - I think there is no need for making one. Most BUYERS don't really need more performance than that, according to Steam most people sit on 1080p displays and a sane person doesn't need to run games on ultra. Realistically A770 is a good top end GPU for BUYERS rather than reviewers running benchmark suites, looking at FPS charts and doing :o face on the tumbnail. Interestingly in the same way ARC can look like good product - it can compete in DX12 titles benchmarks but loses on just running older games and at literally doing nothing.

Plus it is a sensible 2 slot design and great for 1080p gaming during my lunch time. Yes the drivers and software were garbage at launch but the drivers are fine now and with regular updates.
