Consoles use AMD hardware and that market is many times larger than PC games market... Nvidia owns the high end, but not the middle and low end, so game developers who used an engine exclusive to nVidia would have a much smaller market. Very hard to popularize a game engine that only runs on one hardware platform...

I won't say it will have NO competition, but that it will be high difficult for others to catch up. Elon isn't the type to wait around to be outpaced. Hes not just creating robots, he's building entire manufacturing ecosystems. The robots are even entering his production line. What's the implication of NVidia's Drive OS being ASIL certified for Tesla's ambition to licence FSD to other auto manufacturers? I think there's almost no chance that the auto industry will choose FSD which is not ASIL certified over NVidia's certified system. Thoughts?

Nvidia Drive OS is only the underlying OS of the car. The car manufacturer needs to feed it with data and other tools to build a self-driving software on top of it. Tesla has its own OS already and on top its self-driving software which is FSD. Tesla is way ahead.

Certifications don't make FSD work. The software makes it work. And if it's allowed to work in Tesla cars, it should be good enough for anyone. I have no idea what that certification means, maybe Tesla can just get that too.

@@andrasbiro3007 ASIL is about preventing bugs in a software or device. ASIL-D (highest safety level) is used e.g. for airbags because they just mustn't open on their own. ASIL-A (low safety level) is used e.g. for the head and tail lights because their failure isn't catastrophic. For the NVIDIA software, it just says that this software works as intended and is very safe without bugs in the important modules.

It's so insightful of Nvidia that they thought to invent CUDA. Obviously people know AI is hot right now and Nvidia makes graphics cards but those sound like two totally separate things. CUDA enabled AI researchers to take something that didn't scale well into something that can scale very impressively, as we can see from the emergence of AI technologies and speed that they're being innovated. CUDA was the missing ingredient that allowed the Graphics technology pivot to AI.

Seems that in many ways, NVIDIA is broadening its portfolio to catch up with Tesla... their deep pockets and integration of hardware and software -- reminiscent of Apple -- may be the ultimate competitor with Tesla for autonomous driving and humanoid robotics. Question will be, is the NVIDIA system too general? How much work does an OEM have to do to integrate/train its vehicle or robot with NVIDIA's tool kit? Does any OEM have the chops to make this leap?

There are so many puzzle pieces that need to fit together to get to autonomy and then lastly there is the cost per mile. How should they compete, when they cannot even make a profitable EV (except the Chinese).

Everybody is going to go to Nvidia for FSD and not to Tesla. But Tesla will still have a large first mover advantage in robo taxis and a large cost of production and cost of operations advantage too. The robots are coming and to the best manufacturer go the spoils!

Except FSD is practically done, while Nvidia only offers a platform for others to develop a competitor. Chips and GPU clusters aren't enough, not even simulated worlds, you need enormous amounts of real world data, and a system to process it.

@@andrasbiro3007 Do you have to have real world data? I don’t know enough to say, but Nvidia has invested in Wayze and Microsoft did too and Wayze has insignificant amounts or real world data. These are super smart people here, they must have some ideas of how to either get the data or do without it. What we can say with good certitude so far is that to date with current technology you need massive amounts of data and you should not use LiDAR, but we cannot rule out the possibility of achieving the same end result as computer technology advances without lots of data, especially given some very smart people seem to think it can be done.

@@tribalypredisposed Yes, you definitely have to have real-world data. Jensen said it too. Top engineers at big tech companies are smart. Managers making the decisions aren't necessarily. And time horizon is very important too. If you have to show results tomorrow, you have to take a very different path then someone who only has to focus on the long term. Lidar is like that, makes it easy to impress the boss, but it leads you down the wrong path. Once you chose lidar, you can't deploy millions of cars to collect data, and you are f*cked. Nvidia can help to amplify the data you have, but Tesla had this tech for years, and they still need the millions of cars.
