It's THE gpu that I think of when I think back years ago and performs excellent still to this day, holding up in older games.

Imagine buying 7950GX2 in 2006 and soon after you see 8800GTX destroying everything. One thing always catches me off guard is how this was built on same 90nm node as the 7900GTX but somehow this is the biggest uplift in performance over previous we've seen to date. At the time I didn't even know what cuda does when they introduced it with the 8x cards. Tesla was truly revolutionary greatest card Nvidia ever made hands down.

This was the "GTX 4090" of 2007, but at MSRP of just 599 (which was considered very expensive when launched in late 2006). Inflation is not all that is added nowadays, just smart marketing from Nvidia ;) The SLI performance of COD Black Ops II is amazing, and even puts the much more modern i7-4790 to somewhat work at times (50-ish % spikes) Mind you that back then, it was much slower Core 2 Duo CPUs, which would often have bottlenecked SLI with this kind of GPU power. I sold my 8800 GTX back in 2018 in a Athlon 64 "Win XP" build. Now I wish I haven't. I got it for peanuts in 2016, and was in mint condition with box etc. I Believe that GPU could gain some collectors value one day in the future, when it is rare to find.

True. The majority of the time, technology will remain relatively similar. Even today, most high-end graphics cards are still comparable to previous top-tier models. It will likely take several generations of processors before we can fully utilize the power of two RTX 3090 Ti cards in NVLink without encountering performance limitations from standard, non-enthusiast CPUs.

@@dennythescar80s8 Oh, I forgot about that. True. The 8800 Ultra. Same GPU, just clocked higher, and memory a lot higher. Groundbreaking GPU uplift, from the 7xxx series.

i use to have a GTX 295 back in the days and just a few games back than was able to run well on that dual GPU card (same as SLI). This i why SLI died because a few games only work well with this tech and AMD and Nvidia said F it. And i also use to have 8800 Ultra in 2007, a step over 8800 GTX. The 8800 Ultra is a much rare card to have for collection vs 8800 GTX who was in huge numbers made.

It was a thing to desire then. Now,i have about 3 8800, not sure wich ones (GT/GTS/GTX)? Unfortunately, not one with this cool (but only cool as a "cool looking") cooler. Just got myself a motherboard, that support 3-way sli.😊
