Haha GN should totally to a Review of T Shirts from theirs and other Tech channels merch stores. Test for things like sweat and water absorbancy, dry-ability, strech-ability, tear-ability, and cat-ability. Then have a T shirt with tech channel logos saying they participated in the GN T-Shirt Review 2020 (or something catchy) All proceeds from t shirt sales and that month goto getting more trees planted since so many burnt down in USA.

I've long been a big fan of GN's reviews and general editorial policies, but the explicit remarks about the value of keeping old hardware running, not buying something just because it's new and shiny but buyinng if what you have is no longer serving your needs really, really cemented the absolute excellency of GN as a review site. Nobody else comes even close. Reviews that explicitly counteract their implicit "look how cool this new shiny thing is, maybe you should buy it" message are so so so so so sorely needed in this industry. Thank you.

Most of this information is practically useless to your average consumer. Most of the time all people want to know is how it performs in games in comparison to current cards. Though I give him props because it's good to have some who go this in depth compared to none. But it's never a good idea to only use a single source for information regardless of how in depth they go. If he was to ever get a faulty part and his numbers were off due to that, you wouldn't know unless you watched/read other benchmarks. Sure, he would obviously make a correction after the fact, but that's just one example of why you shouldn't just use a single source.

He should be doing Review's Masters classes. Although i'm a little disappointed with the conclusion section. In older video's Steve would take all data and results and use that to give us insights on the product. In particular he'd make statements about the value, whether the data supported the manufacturers hypbole and if the product was of particular note. Comparisons with the competitors and if there was any recommendation to purchase it. It would seem to me that this review should have concluded that the 30 series cards have incredible value, not seen for several generations (perhaps you'd have to go back to the 8800 GTS/GT/GTX range for something that provided the customer with a great bang for buck). I like GN's insights and understanding of the opaque world of PC manufacturing and design. Please keep it coming.

To Steve and the GN crew. Just wanted to say thanks, on behalf of not just myself but the comunity for such an indepth and highly useful lot of review data, testing, and overall hard work. I know doing this much work in such a short time left your team without a lot of sleep. I just wanted to know how much you are appreciated. I watched a bunch of 30 series reviews when this dropped, yours was by far and a way the most comprehensive, and well explained. Also huge kudos for reviewing based on not just 2080 cards but the goddamn 1080 cars.. i know a tonne of ppl that never touched rtx due to early adopter fears etc and these tests show we were somewhat wise so stick to 1080 etc. I finally feel that with this data i have reasons to consider an upgrade, but only if i upgrade my monitor to support 1440 or 4k. Again really appreciate the effort guys. Thanks a lot :)

Man Nvidia has really knocked the marketing out of the park this time. I've got friends who are not tech savvy at all and just casually play games (not even demanding games) on their PC's, and all of them are panicking thinking they NEED a 3090 or 3080 or somehow the world will end. And they panic even more when hearing about the low initial supply, these are people with builds from 2014 and older who seem to think the the 3080 is the next coming of *Insertreligiousfigure* and being without one make the lesser beings (I might've exaggerated a bit, but still its absolutely ridiculous.) One of them has a 1080p 60hz monitor and an i7 2600k and he is losing his shit because he needs a 3080. I just don't comprehend the thought process...

@ISOHaventhat's cool and all but OP's point was that nvidia has somehow set a raging panic on the market, that has somehow convinced people that they NEED a new rtx 3xxx card, DESPITE, many of these people being bounded by monitor limits and cpu bottlenecks. Ex, somebody with a sandy bridge i7 and a 60hz 1080p monitor somehow believes they need the new cards, when in reality, their current setup won't even allow the new cards to break a sweat. It's essentially, a misplaced and false panic
@indianboy0453
@indianboy0453 4 жыл бұрын
@ISOHaven when did I say that it was nvidia's fault? I never said there is someone to blame here. Here's a basic summary of what fundamentally said. Nvidia launched a new product. Because of the press material and previews, people reacted as they usually do. Panic. A sizeable number of people freaking out most likely have no need for these cards because they don't have the gear to justify using such card. Since nvidia is the only company that is releasing a card as of right now, the only entity we can trace this unreasonable reaction to is nvidia. But does that mean nvidia should be held responsible for peoples irresponsibility? Absolutely fucking not. I NEVER said nvidia should be held liable for peoples panic. You misinterpreted my comment and pulled words out of the void. Words that I never said. Did you also miss my last sentence? I said "misplaced and false panic", referring to the ridiculous reaction.

The regression in FPS lows when overclocked is interesting. We know Ampere uses ECC, so it seems plausible that this could be a sign of an unstable overclock. It retries whenever it has a memory error, so any frame with a lot of memory errors would presumably be held back quite a bit even if the frequency increase is still driving the average FPS up.

23:40 Re performance regression at +100/900 OC, GDDR6X has error-correction features built in, so unlike traditional VRAM, which will artefact or crash when the overclock is unstable, the GDDR6X will resubmit transfers if it detects errors. This may lead to performance being slower than at stock, because you are getting bottlenecked by the memory. If you have a software tool to test GPU VRAM latency (eg perhaps a timing call in Cuda or OpenCL), you might be able to show this behaviour when the memory is pushed too far.

Thank you for having such an extensive amount of charts Steve. All the other reviews I was watching had no reference to my card as it's quite a bit out of date at this point. I can actually see what kind of performance I can expect.

I love how half of the comments are people talking about how they were waiting for Steve's review and the other half is people talking about how they were waiting for Steve's review, but with memes.

When I ran 2 monitors one was 1080 144hz, which I'd max out easy with a 7700k+1060 3gb. but that went to a relative once covid hit, and I sidegraded to a 3440x1440 60hz ultrawide, which I've oc'd to 75hz, which my newer 3700x+1070TI have no trouble running... And warthunder's the only thing I play PvP and need the frames for, and it'll happily run on a toaster

Just a note from a Mechanical Engineer here, when you remove a fastener there is a lot of things that stop you from knowing how much torque was applied upon installation. One easier thing to think about is the force is different if you push a ball up a slight hill vs down a slight hill, the same thing is happening with threads.

When embargoes lift, there’s so many options to pick from for review videos. I honestly never even considered clicking on any of the others before this one. Save the best for first? That’s how the saying goes right?

When your time is limited, a 30 minute review by GN is always a better option than 4+ 12 minute reviews that don't explore everything.

I watched hardware unboxed first because they offer a good mix of a breakdown, conclusions and casual friendly viewing. I watched GN second for proper thermal readings, VRAM usage and noise levels.

Congrats on 1M subs guys. Definitely well earned! Also very refreshing to hear encouragement for people to think about their needs in respect to material waste in an industry that's a huge culprit for excessive consumption and luxurious use of energy, hence CO2 emissions, through high-powered systems.

Good thing the very first video on my home page is GN's review. Also, HW video would be good but I am glad I got this as the first at the start of RTX 3080 review marathon.
