Nvidia GPU's VRAM Scam: Why 8 GB Memory?

Have you ever wondered why Nvidia GPUs cost a lot more than their competition, yet offer less VRAM? Intel ARC A770 GPU comes with 16 GB of Video RAM while the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT comes with 12 GB VRAM. Both these GPUs cost around $350. So why the hell is Nvidia planning to sell new GPUs in 2023 that will cost a lot more than $350, and yet offer a puny 8 GB of VRAM? So, what is the real reason behind Nvidia not offering more RAM in their mid-tier GPUs? Is it because the video RAM is too expensive? Well, actually No. In fact, video RAM is very cheap these days. Especially GDDR6 video RAM, which is the type of memory that Nvidia uses in their mid-tier GPUs.
You see, the price of GDDR6 video RAM was high during the pandemic induced shortage. But those days are long gone. In the year 2023, the bulk price of video RAM is very low. For example, if you look at the bulk price of GDDR6 video RAM on digikey, you will see that 16GB of GDDR6 video RAM from micron costs anywhere from $19.41 to $33.41. So that literally comes out to $2 per GB of GDDR6 video RAM. That’s peanuts.
And remember that Nvidia is a huge corporation, so I’m sure they are able to negotiate even better memory prices from vendors. So clearly it’s not the price of the video RAM that is keeping Nvidia from offering more RAM in their video cards. It will literally cost them 20 to 30 dollars more to bump up the video RAM from 8GB to 16GB. That’s nothing compared to the hundreds of dollars they charge for their GPUs.
After all, if Intel can offer 16GB of GDDR6 in their Arc A770 GPU, there is no excuse for Nvidia to not do that. Intel is a newcomer in the GPU market, and they are already offering more value for money than Nvidia. Intel is not afraid to challenge Nvidia and give consumers what they want: more video RAM for better gaming performance.

Guys please buy AMD nvidia has no competition so they have no incentive. When AMD starts to threaten their market dominance of GPUs then maybe just maybe they’ll get off their asses and do better for gamers

Anyone that has been around for decade knows that vram is not the end all, be all in GPUs. By the time your 4060 needs 16 gb of vram you'll run into other limitation like the silicone it was made on. It has been true for 15 years or so. Nvidia is also more efficient with vram usage then AMD. This video tells me I need to avoid this channel cause it's BS.

Simpel its the easyest way to bring you to upgrade . Nvidia knows its not enoth . I even argue the only worth card is a 4080 or 4090 at this point becouse of Vram limitations . Specialy the 4070ti suffers insanly from it . Greedy Nvidia

Low memory bus. With gddr 6 memory you can only double it each time so with the 4060/Ti the only options they have is 4gb which would obviously be too little, 8gb which is still kinda to little but better or 16gb which is too much but too much is better than too little.

4GB?! Are they nuts? Can they atleast please stop making 4gb of vram for the newer cards? Idk what's worse. 4GB on a 4060 or 128 Bit Bus on a 4090 🤦‍♀️

A lot of the performance of the Vram is up to the bus size, but it's still weird that Nvidia doesn't go for more ram for consumers

It's not weird, it's by design. You are incentivized to buy the more expensive cards over the doa cards. NV has at least a decade history of skimping on vram. For the first time ever we see 100-300% gross margin on bill of materials with the 4000 series. If people still buy Ngreedia, they deserve what's coming for them: higher and higher prices next gen-on-gen, which will result in the death of pc gaming (at least for triple a, which we already see for some time, but will get worse), which goes in line with you'll own nothing and be happy when you will rent only (like subscription for cloud gaming). How to stop it? Do NOT participate. I can buy the 4090, but I'm a super fool if I did it for consuming only, people need to learn to set boundaries and control their emotions. Might be a good time for people to stop gaming or go to console or just be happy what you already have (last one is good ageless advice regardless).

It is not only nvidia as much as devlopers as well! For example : We used to have 6 gb vram 1660 and 8gb 1070! Up from 4 gb rx580 or rx 570! Dx 11-dx 12- vulkan for a game like red dead redemption only uses 6.5 gb of vram or less than 7 gb! However, newer games actually may use more than 11 gb while providing slightly better visuals! This is literally trying to kill our budget and pushes us to buy more vram! Then we have nvidia offering only 8 gb on rtx 3060 ti and even rtx 3070 making the latter gpu garbage tier! Rtx 3060 with 12 gb is trolling us too. Rtx 3060 ti should have been at least 10 gb Rtx 3070 =12 gb Rtx 3080= 12 or 16 gb Rtx 3080 ti =16 gb Rtx 4070 = 12 gb Rtx 4070 ti =16 gb Even then rtx 4070 may not do rtx on all games.... The only thing going for nvidia is dlss! Maybe dsr or dlsdsr

Man that is 16 gigabit not gigabyte! Also GDDR is not HBM. Many graphics cards have HBM which is much more expensive

You make no sense. Most of the graphics card use Samsung,Micron and SK Hynix GDDR6 ram
