Like most people I decided to replace the original thermal pad with GELID to reduce the heat of memory temperature that mostly sitting at 104c while gaming.
With this mode it reduce memory temperature down to between 80c - 90c depend on what game I run. I don't know if Nvidia will do anything about this but clearly there thermal pad is not the best quality to be use in such high end graphics card.
Anyway I hope you found it useful, good luck and be careful and take it easy.

Do so at your own risk, your warranty is voided if you replace the pads.

There are more than 2 thicknesses of pads used originally. I can not find the original pad thicknesses anywhere!!! There is so much bad advise on the internet. Look thru the comments. I have also had my card apart more than 7 times. Wish I had kept the originals or at least measured them myself. Didnt think there would be such a problem. From what I can tell, using 2mm on the core side doesnt give enough pressure to the core unless you use a TON of paste. 1.5mm gives decent pressure to core but I have a memory cooling problem now. I think there is a spot or two that needs a thinner pad... like 2mm raises the cooler off a pad. If someone can post the original pad thicknesses and exactly where they are applied, that would be amazing!!!!

It seems to be hit and miss, not everyone get good result. Which is shame but I guess everyone have difference silicons and have to try out several pads before finding correct one.

I am about to try how thermal putty will deal with this. But overall I have a feeling that all this youtubers with gelid pads replacement are paid actors by the thermal pads producers xD

@@bohdanradko6942 Hehe you have all the rights to doubt. Many KZbinrs get paid for reviewing stuff or doing experiments and talk about how good it is. Trust me I am not big KZbinrs, I just upload videos when I can and just do it for fun. In this case it seems to be very different results. Some get good temps and some bad temps. All in depend what kind of thermals compound you use and sometimes even with same paste you get two different results. For me I found that by spreading thermal didn’t work at all but cross with dots works better.

@@Aurahead Watching this vod I do not believe the card has a better performance after the mod. Did you stress test it? Did you check temps and frequency and fans speed? Just looking at core temp and memory temps is not enough. In my attempt i got super nice core temp as well as vram temps but the hot spot reaches 100 when benching.

Hi! Where is testing results? With 2mm thermal pads can GPU be not close to the metal surface. Did you check it?

Can I use 3mm pads in the VRAMs because I can't find stock of the 2mm ones?

It can work if you squeeze it to make it thinner.

Dude my 3080 is untouchable, too hot to even touch the surface. Is it normal?
@Aurahead
@Aurahead Жыл бұрын
Sadly it is normal, what you can do is put a heatsink on top with fans. I tried that modification and it turn out to be very effective way to cool it even better. But yes they run very very hot. Temp wise it rated to max 93c but what to concern is that memory temperature is way to high you can reach above 100c and that is way to much imo.

How many mm pad do you use?

Did all that with gelid extreme. now have a gpu die temp issue. I tried arctic mx5 paste which is weird stuff that has the consistency of Laffy Laffy. I hate this paste, Kind of blaming this garbage mx5 paste, tried 3 times, vram Temps are better though. Some people have said that 2mm pads are too big even with these gelids. What to believe, highly annoyed.

I use Grizzle paste I find it works much better but do it as dot method. Spread method doesn't work very well. As for pads, not sure this is the only pads I tried. What you could do is squeeze it down if you find it to thick but it should not be to thick. It should squeeze down it own.

@@Aurahead thanks for the reply. I did find my noctua nh1 paste, going to give that a try tonight with the X dot method like you did. I'm betting it's the paste. 4th tear down, wish me luck.

Well not really if you are using correct pads. You can Google about this. There are plenty of threads on reddits. For me temp went down hotspot from 102c to 85-89c and temp was around 75c. Compare to before it could reach 90. As long as you are careful, read and watch tutorial it will help. Some people that have done it wrong will get higher temp in results. Just check reddits, some need to do a couple attempts before getting it correct. But if you are not sure and don’t know what do, yea I suggest don’t.

@@Aurahead and also on the back side you used 3mm pad as a replacement for the very thin stock pad, which is also bad, idk how you screw in the backplate without bending anything.

@@bohdanradko6942 yes some people left that thin pads on. I just press down a bit on that size it become thinner. And I found it works very well ofc you could let the pad adjust the size itself after being screwing down the plate.

I though I had that in video maybe I didn’t? 2mm at the front and 3mm at the back. But if you use other brands pads than you have to experiment since all pads have different thickness.
