How do you use the query for the attributes? for example I have my interview transcripts and each of them a from different USA state. How can I look up what interviewees are specifically from Florida?

In my mac nvivo version there is not a case propierties option when I right-click Person... So I haven't been able to select the gender...

I finally learnt how to do it. Mac users need to go to case classification, click the case they want to inform and right-click "Get Info", then you will be able to edit the fields you have created.

I have coded the cases and wonder if I can merge them back to the main data?

Coding cases directly actually codes the main data file the case represents too.
