This felt as though it were Edward Strikes Out done RIGHT. I really enjoyed it. Also can't wait to finally see Jim put an end to his hatred of the North Western Railway.

Nice preview at the end, it's a most excellent hint as to why Jim resents the standard gauge engines.

A very good episode indeed, show's how people and engines of decades gone by are resistant to change in favour of more modern technologies!! Also, i liked the cliff-hanger at the end! It seems we'll finally find out why jim's got such a huge grudge against the NWR, over a year later mind you, but, oh well, better late than never!

Wouldn't it have been better if there had been a train at Maron, like Henry with the Flying Kipper or something? That way, we'd get a nice parallel with _The Flying Kipper_ where Peter's TPWS saves him and both trains whereas Henry never had that luxury when he had his accident. I know I've never made a Trainz video, but if it's alright with you I'd like to give some advice: Whenever you have a plot where an engine doesn't understand the importance of something, there needs to be an actual crisis where that thing is needed since it's the best way to demonstrate how useful it is. If Henry had been at Maron with the Flying Kipper and Peter had needed to stop quickly while panicking, his TPWS could've saved him and Henry could've told Peter about his accident with the Flying Kipper and how he never had the luxury of the TPWS in the 1930s. Or whenever his accident happened. Does this help at all, or am I just being disingenuous?

I see the argument in which Peter is coming from. Yes it might prevent a few accidents here and there, but there are some huge flaws with the system. Hopefully I get an answer to these questions to clarify some things. 1. How would a train react if there's some kind of mechanical failure with the brakes? Would it do anything? 2. What would it do in a case where the signal is FORCED down, ex "Henry's accident" 3. Wouldn't all the trains be forced to stop if there was a catastrophic signal faliure? 4. Could it cause major damage to an engine and cargo if the engine stopped too quickly? Ex flat tires, worn brakes...
@Peqches
@Peqches 6 жыл бұрын
Quasimoto7 1. Generally, a train won't enter service with brake problems, and it's very unlikely to fail mid-journey....but if it does, there's really nothing anyone can do. 2. In British Rail, signals are reverse to Sodor's. Down is red, and up is green. It's designed to be fail-safe. So in a real event, if the signal gets "forced down" the train would stop. But if it happens on Sodor. There's also really nothing anyone can do... 3. Yes, yes they would....but that is the signals fault, not the TPWS. 4. It very well could. But in the event that something poses a threat to people's safety, i.e. Going to fast, or passing a red signal. The priority is that the people are safe, not the equipment, under some circumstances, it's okay to damage equipment, if it means saving someone's life.

Now this was an interesting story. Peter thinking that the T.R.W.S is all stuff and nonsense. If you think about it, it's like Edward thinking Rocky was useless in 'Edward Strikes Out' until he learnt how useful and important Rocky was in the end. Well, to me, this is how I think that story actually sounds similar to this one. I think the lesson in this story is don't judge a system you don't understand too quickly, because in the end you'll realise how important and useful it is when it helps you out of a tricky spot. I was amazed at what Jim said at the end of the story. I wonder what he is going to do soon. Plus I've noticed you've got 10,000 subscribers. So congratulations on getting that many mate :).

I guess so, as WildNorWester did release some of his original creations for download. It would be worth seeing how Iris arrived on Sodor in this series, though. BTW, the quality of the stories by you guys has inspired me to start writing a few stories of my own. They're on SiF, in the 'Your Own Railway Series-Style Stories' section, and they're called 'The 'B'Class Bullies' and 'Barrow Engines' - please r&r, guys!

Allo, allo, allo. After returning from hols in Marrakech to yet another fantastic episode from a very talented KZbinr (you, NWR1991), I spy an episode which is going to easily be worth watching! Just wondering: Any idea as to how soon is soon? (just out of interest. I don't want to rush you, since it takes time to come up with plots as good as yours)

I wasn't too keen on this episode, but it's not a big deal. You have plenty of good episodes, I just think that this episode was, as others have said, a bit too technical and "dry." The closest comparison I can draw to this episode is "Thomas and the Emergency Cable." I think the reason why that episode worked is because there was some setup, and there was a basic explanation of what the emergency cable (called the "Passcom" in the UK rail industry) does, but it does it in a way which explains its relevance to the plot. The conflict, of course, came in the form of Thomas distrusting the birdwatcher for pulling the emergency cable, and of course, it's resolved by the end. Here, it's not so obvious what exactly the conflict is. Is it Peter distrusting modern technology? If so, it seems to come out of nowhere. Is it just him being paranoid? Either way, it's difficult to tell what exactly the conflict is, or why Peter just suddenly has this disdain for the TPWS.

So, I guess what I wanted to say is this: I really enjoy a story like yours where it involves a piece of real railway equipment, but don't overdo it. Don't get discouraged, though; just because I think this episode was kind of a dud, doesn't mean the other ones are. I wish you the best of luck in the future, and good luck with your series!
@NWR1991

It was Peter not for modernity even though it wasn't explained you rather think about it. This engine had been shut up in the tunnel due to SSR that I've put in last season for so many years that the world had changed. Thinking back to it, I should've added more to it but I thought the story might be too long and I get that stuff at times about it (longevity) it's hard for me to write a five minute story like the classic series. But whenever I do a story about Peter I will try and add more about him.

+NWR1991 Thank you for taking the time to read my comment; I appreciate it. Perhaps at the beginning of the episode you could add a little recap of the important details on his story arc thus far, which informs us on what we need to know. This happened in the classic series with the "Duck and the Diesel" arc, as well as others. Peter holds some promise and potential as a character, he just needs to have a defined set of character traits, and have his personality defined so that he can learn lessons about and have stories relating to those character traits, both good and bad. For example, he seems kind and experienced, but he's also stubborn. That's the feeling I got with him in this episode, having never seen him before.
