Thank you for these tips! I used these exact techniques and got my results this morning. I achieved the 75th-100th percentile! At first I was discouraged by some friends who said that there was no way to prep for this exam and that they got bad scores which prevented them from applying to the schools they wanted. They said they did not even take the practice exam so that could also be a factor in that. Gotta give thanks to where it's due. Thank you again!

Thank you for this video! It's great that you are helping future health professionals to do better in the grueling application process. We didn't have the CASPER when I got into medical school in 1993! But at my McMaster interview I had to do a mini tutorial with other candidates. I am not sure how I got in, to be honest, but it's been a fantastic career so far. Keep up the great work and best of luck in your MD journey, all 3 of you.

Thanks for the video! Just wondering how much you normally were able to write for each prompt during your test? I find I can only get out about 3-4 sentences per prompt before running out of time. The sample answers to practice questions that I’ve seen online all seem so long but it seems super unrealistic for me to achieve that.
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely wouldn't go super long - realistically I wouldn't have had the time 😅 Like I said - I would think more about it in terms of time, but on average it's safe to say that I would get down about 4-6 sentences per question usually. More doesn't always equal better though 🤙

im so upset. i just got my casper test score back and i got the first quartile. i have no idea why. i took the practice test and i thought i did ok on the casper test.... but i guess not??? I wish they would give feedback about why we got the scores we did. it seems so arbitrary. any advice for retaking for next cycle?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about that MJ - my advice would be to reflect on your answers and questions now that you still remember them. Write down whatever you remember and reflect to see where you could have improved. Look at the 10 qualities that are marked by CASPer - did you touch on those during your answers? Did you say or do anything that could have been illegal or morally ambiguous. Were you directly addressing the questions in your answers or did you go off on a tangent? Improving from here will come down to your ability to reflect on what you did and figuring out where the errors were. Best of luck with everything :)

How in depth do you think we need to read up on health policies and when people say "be up to date with current world issues"? Do they really ask stuff like this? I even saw someone say on Reddit to read all about the Canadian health care system... is that really necessary?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 4 жыл бұрын
This isn't necessary at all in my opinion (from my experience and that of a few of my friends). I would say to know the very basics - how basic exactly is hard to say, but I've never come across someone who's told me that in-depth knowledge of the Canadian health care system was necessary... Gotta love premed reddit 😅

@nxtgenmd

Hi J :) It is possible the the wording of the website has changed since Thiago wrote the Casper test. In that sense there is nothing stopping you from remembering how to organize your thoughts and simply writing it down in that way on your blank paper. Best of luck!

Is it important to answer all the three questions, or is it OK to answer just 2 comprehensively?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on who you ask - I prefer to answer all 3 and avoid repetition. Its a plan that's worked for a few students I've spoken with since the grading system was started for Casper as well. Not answering the 3rd question on a few question stems won't make you do terribly though 🤙
@lulas3481

Also, I know that grammar and spelling are not huge on CASPer, but what do you recommend in terms of proper sentence structures? Did you leave your caps lock off the entire time or did you still start every sentence with a capital letter like a normally written paragraph?
@nxtgenmd
@nxtgenmd 4 жыл бұрын
Spelling and grammar don't count within reason. Peppering your answers with enough mistakes to render your answer uncomprehensible for the reader probably isn't a good idea. I did use capital letters (more so out of habit). If you're doing point form format for your answers, this is even less necessary :)

Dont, they'll see that your grammar and vocabulary aren't as developed as they'd wish for and you'd likely be rejected. Google translate is very simple, stick to English, and if that means you don't get to apply to a French school then so be it.

This is not that helpful… there should be better examples on how to answer these questions especially with the limited time given to answer three questions in 5 minutes. All online resources are confusing and the sample answers are way too in-depth to be able to type that much information for each question in 5 minutes.
