Success isn’t determined by how smart, talented, or skilled you are but by how hard you can persevere through challenges. Your ability to overcome unfavorable situations will provide you with time to demonstrate your true strength and determination for success. Motivation exists only within your heart and mind. Never lose your eagerness and drive towards what inspires you; and never, EVER, allow the possibility of failure to stop you from reaching YOUR objectives. You can’t swim immediately in that temperature of water so they must adjust before they start the race. If you fall into freezin water, thrashing about will kill you faster than floating and waiting for your body temp to acclimatise. I’m guessing it’s also just a cool thing they decided on to get people in the water!!

That 160 athletes cut off on the mountain is bullshit in my opinion... if its for saftey reasons, then there should be a 160 cap on the entry list... What is this thing about the first 160 athletes nonsense? I understand time limitations but not numbers. I'm glad I know about this now as I've had this race in my mind for a couple of years. Still a cool race, don't get me wrong but I utterly disagree with that kind of rules.
@eab7478 жыл бұрын
+kylmark I guess you're still learning to read, aren't you? I'm saying I'm not singing up for this race precisely for this rule. The race still pretty cool.
@eab7478 жыл бұрын
+kylmark I'm not complaining, I'm just sharing my thoughts (like many people on this forum) in relation to the 160 limitation rule. you gotta agree that it's not normal to limit the race at that point of the race...if the organisers have a certain limitation on numbers (they must have their own reasons for it), in my opinion they should simply limit it at registration and not half way through the race. don't think it's fair on those athletes that train hard for the event, pay the same fees and don't get to finish it simply because someone was faster on the day. we're not professionals that we're trying to qualify for the Olympics. I humble opinion thinks the organisers only do this to make more money...if they have the 160 limitation, they should only accept 160 entries.
@eab7478 жыл бұрын
+kylmark you must be right. let's sign up 20,000 people and only let 5 up the hill. according to your logic, as long as the organisers put it under the terms and conditions, then it's fine....in the end of the day it's for business anyway, isn't it? you gotta love your love for the sport there.
@eab7478 жыл бұрын
+kylmark if i entered the race I'd aim to win the bloody thing but I still think it's unfair for the others that wouldn't make it to the top 160. I imagine we could keep texting each other and go nowhere with this... at the start of the conversation I got pretty pissed off but the more I think about it the more I see it's good to have both different opinions. it was nice having a good raw with you. hope to see you in the start line of a triathlon some day.
@willwhite19878 жыл бұрын
@kylmark @Ernest Asensio Blasco, as a graduate of the 2016 edition I'd like to rectify some of the points raised in your discussion. If the goal of the race were to make money, they'd be doing things really wrong. I cannot recall how many times I asked myself "how can this be so cheap? how are they managing this?". The organisation is among the best I've seen in such a race -- if there are any such races. Requiring athletes to have their own support goes a long way, for sure. But the organisers, crew, race marshals, medical support, media guys etc. are all dedicated volunteers and lots of them are passionate athletes, too. You can clearly see that they love what they're doing and that they love their race. The 160 cut-off is harsh, I'd grand you that, but you'd understand the safety concern if you were to climb up to Gaustattopen. What's more, if you look at the race time of the last black t-shirt, it is fairly constant throughout the editions of the race: so in effect it is similar to a battle against time -- except if you're around position 160, where it must be extremely hard to secure your slot: you'd want to have a safety cushion before starting to climb the hill. Finally, let's recall that the admission of the race is mostly based upon a lottery, opened to all. This is a good thing in my opinion, as anyone can dream to participate. The black t-shirt in turn pushes athletes to give their very best, racing for position at every moment. It adds dimension and competitive meaning to the race. It goes without saying, though, that the white-shirt-athletes are as deserving as the rest, if not more considering the constant battle against the elements, and should be proud of their accomplishment. Let not this 160 cut-off stop you from applying for the race - white and black t-shirt alike will all tell you how awesome it is. True. Basic. Unique.

@Ziggen19899 жыл бұрын
+Zandersons I assume it is due to the fatigue of the runners at the time they get to the climbing part. Basically being zombie mode, both mentally and physically for the last grueling climb.
@Roofvogel779 жыл бұрын
The first 25km of the run is flat. Then you reach a 7,5km stretch of asphalt that's very steep and snakes up the mountain, almost everybody has to walk or crawl up at this point. I guess only the top athletes can still jog it. They call this stretch zombie hill. I did it in 2012 and it's an appropriate name for it :). at km 32 you get to the mountain checkpoint, where it's decided if you get to continue to the top of the mountain or not. I was 'luckily' came there in spot 151 and got a black shirt. The others have to Finnish on a flat route near the town and get a white shirt.

hans vidar Lindseth thanks for the inspiration; I can run long distances without too much effort and I swim casually. However I cannot complete more than 8-10 laps ( 400-500 m ) without a break (freestyle swimming ). However, I haven't practiced cycling since I was a young folk. I want to train for a few years by swimming running and cycling every week and go to a few triathlons before officially applying. I know getting into the race is probably more difficult than finishing it.
