I went to a service today, a young man who I worked it. I had no clue what to do. Finally 2 different gentlemen came to explain what was happening. Can you post a video to address other nationalities on what to expect? Thank you

Dude, all you have to do, is never too late to learning it. Cuz you're Hmong thou, son.

Great 👍🏼.. I find it funny that we hmong people naturally look away when we are giving thanks. I only noticed it when you said the full verse and reflected upon myself. Doesn’t matter if it’s at funerals or other gatherings. Why do we do that? We are able to say thanks to any other persons and look them in the eyes without issue. Are we that indirect as people as a culture? Lol. Just thoughts to put out there.. keep it up brother!

That’s because it’s about being humble and having humility.

Im not sure about the hmong culture but i know in other cultures, looking at people in their eyes is considered disrespectful. Could be something like that for us?

what would I say if I'm coming as a single male guest?
@Chiefofcalamities3 жыл бұрын
My elders tell me you can either say a lot or a little, but the words you have to say are "kuv/wb tuab coj tsi tau ib yaam dlaab tsi tuaj pauj tau mej lub kuas muag". "I couldn't bring anything to replace your loss." The beauty of the language is there's many ways to say it but the directional target is all the same.

Question from the outside: the family of a close friend of mine (Hmong) suffers a loss. I, not being Hmong or even physically capable of speaking the language, want to pay respect and show support to my friend and their family in a way that will not offend them. What would your advice be?
@dictumdose4 жыл бұрын
Great question! If you're not able to speak the language, you could still give the family a monetary gift. The family would still acknowledge your gift, but you wouldn't be expected to speak or do anything in return. It would not be offensive in any way for proving the family with sunshine money.

dictum dose Thanks so much for getting back to me! What’s a normally acceptable amount or range thereof?
@dictumdose4 жыл бұрын
The most common amount is $20. But the range is quite wide and any amount really is okay
@veryrandom14 жыл бұрын
Autumn Faraday I’ve seen it where persons who aren’t able to speak Hmong has donated and are thanked in the English language with similar verses so the person can understand. I’ve done it myself. You can easily respond with what is mentioned in the video in English too if you want.
