Thanks so much! I worked on my LINE QUALITY endlessly. I was taught it by a comic book artist who literally drilled into me the importance of it. Few artists recognize this and spend too much time just drawing the picture" great lines make the picture engaging for the eye.

@DIXON1994 thanks for the shout out. I'm always just a little nervous when I'm being filmed drawing. The Tombo Brush pen I'm using makes this kind of party style caricature drawing a breeze.unlike other artists who like to draw bodies also, I like to focus mainly on the face. I use 8X11 overstock paper fromStaples also. It's cheaper than buying a pad, takes well to the brush pen, and has just enough "tooth" to apply the arttixx color.

The Pastel I'm using is not a pastel, it's called a prismacolor art stixx. It's more in the colored pencil family than a thing else. It's not powdery anddoesmt smudge.

I just ordered a Tombow. My Markette is dying. Hey, another artist says that when you do the line under the eye that it is thin, not thick.

@DDIXON1994 the best advice I can give to you is the truth. There are no shortcuts, no magic tutorials. You must simply LOVE drawing, and do it everyday. Most people tsp. DON'T. study OLD cartoons and caricatures from the 5os, 60s, and 70s, these guys were masters

I know it’s really really really late. I had been ill and was unable to respond to anything until I got better. Well, I’m better and he is the answer to your question. If you haven’t already figured it out for yourself I use exclusively to markers the TOMBOW brush pens, which enable me to do a beautiful calligraphy type line and also a good old-fashioned Crayola marker which has a beautiful resilient chronicle tip that maintains its point surprisingly and has excellent ink flow. To make things even more magically delicious I use 8 1/2 photo layer gloss paper that enables the marker to literally glide over the paper like ice you must be able to be sure your line but the results are worth it. I hope after all these years that help

+JUKO TALES sorry for the looooooong wait. in order to use the art stixx you need to put a piece of soft paper or mat or foam underneath so that your art stixx won't "drag on the paper.

What black marker do you use? Is it some type of copic?

It’s a big fat Crayola marker that children use in elementary school my children using it one day and I picked it up just for fun and found out that it worked excellent for what I did

I either used Chris McCullough art sticks, which don’t exist anymore aargh or shortchart pack markers the paper I use is layer gloss

@DDIXON1994 draw for at least three hours a day. Draw faces draw still lifesdraw backgrounds, nothing will train you better than that. Find an old cartoonist you like and study them. I liked Hanna Barbera cartoons(Flintstknes, Yogi Bear) only to find out who i REALLY liked was their original character designer,Ed Beneduct, and old artist from the fifties. Your studies will lead you, like mine did, to other masters whose knowledge becomes yours.

Don't give up on your art, ever There will be many days where you will want to...don't give in to that aging voice that tells you youre wasting your time. I dont care if you can only draw stick figures. They just better be the best looking stick figures on the market!
