Thank you Sarah. Grew up in WB in the 50s and 60s. Loved it then. Love it now. Will always love it. Missed it when I was away. Hence why I live a little more than an hour away. Our favorite pastime back then was watching the gangs rumble or the guys doo wopping the in the corners. Not that I am a Vegan in any way but there is a now very famous vegan restaurant in the block I grew up. I have been there with my daughter and met Europeans visiting NYC come over to WB to eat at this restaurant at 197 Meserole St. The Irony is that I cannot afford to live in the hood I grew up. Thank you so much Sarah and good luck in all your endevours.

Born and raised in Los Sures Williamsburg and have seen the changes. I remember when even yellow cabs would refuse to drive you to Williamsburg because they were scared. Tho my experience was different I never felt fear you knew who was who Williamsburg was known as the well kept secret because for a very long time the rent was super cheap and you were a stop away from the city. Unfortunately because of the gentrification many who grew up and raised their families here have been pushed out because rent has pretty much tripled and for many working class who own properties now are forced to pay ridiculous home taxes while the billioners now building are getting tax breaks. Love how you mentioned the real changes through out the years. Good job! I love Williamsburg it is cool to find nice places to eat. Just wish the ones that have lived their all their lives didn’t have to suffer because they can’t afford to stay due to the ridiculous rent hikes😕
@melirose895 жыл бұрын
miguelina Rodiriguez live and grew up in Williamsburg by the south side too. It sucks seeing all the old places shutting down. The old guys don’t hang out in the front of their buildings playing dominoes anymore, no more street fairs every week. A lot of that culture is gone. I wish it getting safer weren’t at the expense of the community losing the culture it once had and all the minorities getting pushed out. It might not have been the safest growing up but there was a sense of community that you don’t see anymore.
@Idagramos7 ай бұрын
I agree, I have lived here since birth and still do. I do not agree when she says that the Puerto Rican community is getting smaller as if we are being pushed out by other cultures. I agree with you about the rent being too high and homeowners are paying rediculeous taxes while these other buildings going up are getting tax breaks, smh but the truth is the truth. Regardless, we thrive wherever we go with pride and dignity and we know who we are and what we bring to the community. Williamsburg is beautiful and I am still proud to say that I still live here for 59 years now and I'm not going anywhere unless papito Dios calls me to make my heavenly departure, otherwise, I'll be here and will continue to help my fellow man and be of service to my community. Esoooo!!

A little more, she says that the Puerto Ricans are only in Los Sures but that's not true, we are all over the place.

I’m from Germany and plan on flying to NYC in May with my best friend. However, we will only be 19 when we’re there. I obviously know that the drinking age in America is 21 (which I don’t really care about since I’m not spending thousands of euros to get wasted lol) but I’m wondering whether we can still visit Rooftop bars and Speakeasies without drinking alcohol? I‘ve always wanted to visit those and see what it’s like...

Williamsburg is great for hanging out, shopping, eating, catching a concert.... Shame that it has gotten so unaffordable to live there. When I see the fancy new generic apartment buildings popping up, it so disheartening. The people who make the neighborhood hip, are the very ones that can't afford it
