I live in Japan, where illegal immigration is not a problem. People from China, from East Asia, and Africa are closer to Japan than to America, yet it is far easier to get into America. Japan has policies which make illegal immigration hard. First, people can't easily make money remittances in Japan. A remittance is limited to about $1500, and you need to provide legal identification and fill out a tax form. Next, employers are required by law to pay workers by bank transfer, and banks are required by law to make sure those who apply for bank accounts are legal residents. Next, Japan's medical system is not required to provide treatment on demand. Japanese hospitals require you have insurance or can pay up front for your healthcare. No insurance and no money means no treatment. Because of this system, the healthcare system is not abused by millions of non-paying patients, and because everyone pays, healthcare in Japan is affordable, as are the premiums for the national healthcare plan (Japan does not have free public health care). Next, Japan's immigration courts are fast and efficient. If you are caught in Japan illegally, you are arrested, detained, see a judge within a few days, and ordered deported with the clothes on your back. Japan never releases illegal immigrants into the country. Those who are detained for being in Japan illegally can apply for refugee status, or contest their deportation, but these application are NEVER approved, so most people sent home with a lifetime ban on returning. Japan's laws against drugs and theft are extremely harsh, and are severely enforced, so those who seek to come to Japan illegally and support themselves by crime would rather go somewhere else where laws are loosely enforced, like America.
