I moved last year from Chicago to Brooklyn and we did it in a uhaul over 2 days. Worst days of my life. We had hired movers to move the stuff in from the truck once we got there and they changed the time so we ended up driving during rush hour from New Jersey. You are SO SMART to hire movers. Worth every penny if you can afford it. Best of luck with the move! Excited to see a new apartment tour once you move in!

A couple of moving tips: Since you have movers leave all not breakable things in your dresser because the will plastic wrap the whole thing and it leaves less to unpack. Also wardrobe boxes are amazing worth the price. Make sure you take a pair of scissors with you because you don’t want to try to find them while unpacking.

Yay! I’m so excited for you! I just moved back to NYC from Dallas (2nd time to move there), and yes! It’s insane with apartments!!! Such smart, pro choices to consider with your commute, etc. Never thought I’d love New York as much as I did, but it becomes a part of you; you’re gonna love it!!! ☺️🙋‍♀️🗽 P.S. I've moved a lot in my life and the last three times have been with movers and I would never go back. It was so much easier because we booked them, I packed and then they took it all where we wanted, when we wanted and then I just had to unpack. The last time was when we bought our house and I was 37 week pregnant and zero help, so movers were a must. I went to Bookcon last year and loved exploring the little bit of NYC that I was able to in the 3 days we were there. I need to go back though because there's just so much to see!

If you like Mexican food be sure to try Gonzalez y Gonzalez on Mercer St in Manhattan and my all time favorite, Eloras in South Slope. I'm going to miss Eloras when I move to Chicago!

South Brooklyn is amazing. The neighborhood I live has Chinese food everywhere and it is so good!! I also work in lower Manhattan near Wall Street, where the food is twice as much and not nearly as good 😭

I grew up on the lower east side of Manhattan....I am so envious. I hope that you find a back up if you are going to be traveling on the L train, they will be shutting it down on the Manhattan side for construction for a year. The up side is that you can do a lot of reading on the bus.

That’s so exciting, Regan! I was wondering if you’re feeling any stress or anxiety about moving to NYC? I’m moving to London from North Carolina for grad school in Sept and I feel like I’m more anxious/stressed than I’m excited which kinda sucks! I’ve been to London multiple times (studied abroad for 3 months) and I LOVED it but now I’ll be gone for a year or so and the idea of moving is super anxiety-provoking!
