Such a unique job in a lovely unique city. We as NYers in the hustle and buddy wand everything in between tend to easily forget these that literally drive the city forward. I recall during my time away in the Army I made a joke and said “stand clear of the closing doors” and no one got it. Except this kid from the BX who laughed out loud.
@joeydoherty368 Жыл бұрын
Transportation is a pretty challenging profession. The job may not be hard work, but the demand of your schedule and always being on the move isn’t as easy as some people think. Railroad though is probably the best job to have as far as transportation goes. Bus drivers probably have the toughest job, and they’re the ones I have the most respect for with what they deal with on a daily basis.

Why are there conductors in between cars...? Our trains in Chicago only have one conductor and he/she is at the front of the train.
@sgtpepah42605 жыл бұрын
The conductor is in the middle to control door operation. The train is divided in 2 sections here the front(first 5 cars) and the rear (last 5 cars). The conductor has to close the door in each section in order rear then front and monitor the safety of the train as it leaves the station so they are positioned at the middle and the train operator is in the front.
@videonut19884 жыл бұрын
NYC has 10 to 11 cars compared to CTA's 2 to 8. They have the T/O exclusively operate the train and have other people do the doors.
@Anewuser_62824 жыл бұрын
PATH has the conductor in the 1st or 2nd car, but they run 7-8 car trains à la Chicago. Some NYC trains are 600 ft, eight 75 ft cars (on former IND/BMT lines). IRT trains are 10-11 50ft-cars. The safest and most logical position is to have the conductor in the middle of the train to ensure no one is caught in the doors or being dragged by a moving train when the doors close.
