Ah after all these years! I found the man who used his go pro while I operated. Great catch! Hope you enjoyed the ride. Brings back memories of the R62A.

Nice look at pre CBTC. Actually can appreciate how the CBTC smoothed out the operation especially the timer zones.

When I was a kid in the Fifties, one of my favorite forms of entertainment was riding the elevated subway lines, both inside and hanging on the outside of the rear subway car. My mother would have had a heart attack if she knew that my buddies and I used to dare each other to walk along the elevated tracks in the Bronx. I'm also old enough to remember when the subway cars had wooden floors, wicker seats, and actual screw-in light bulbs. In my late teens, I lived in Long Island City and my getting-off stop was Queensboro Plaza. Heading home in the evening, the breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline was a sight I never tired of.

I miss it as well, but I'm sure I could never live there again now that my blood has thinned out after so many decades living in Southern California. I could not endure those brutal winters.

@@bronxboy47 I definitely miss living in Flushing and taking the train in to the city. I lived there for almost 28 years. Then I moved to Seattle back in 2001. These type of videos are sort of a nostalgic trip for me. Thank goodness for You Tube.

When I was a kid I use to ride the subways in my city for fun. I was fascinated looking out the front window. If I lived in NYC I might have never gone to school. With 3 tracks I'm assuming express service is in only one direction depending on the time of day.

Being a driver in Australia, you would think i see enough out of the front window but i do like to see the setup of other railroads. I used to driver suburban electric trains but now drive 100mph country passenger trains. I like the fact that you have filmed with 60fps. I find that filming in 60fps really does seem to make it flow much better to the human eye. Good work 😊👍

At least these don’t have the blurry glass. But they make it small to give privacy to the driver right? I thought in other countries they allow you to see the driver and then the window in front.

Which lines with r62 trains still use the railfan window? When did they start covering it up?
@Bombardier21993 жыл бұрын
No line uses the RFW anymore, since 2017-8 ish on the 7. The MTA first started covering up these windows in about the mid 90s

@an2niotransitproductions8134 жыл бұрын
Bobby Brady Exactly. However He said “European” though. You misread his comment and were fast to bombard it. It’s the same as saying “American Subways” and that is valid.
@robertgambling5024 жыл бұрын
The lens being in partial telephoto compresses the scene and given the illusion of going slow. You can solve that by changing the playback speed to 2X.
@dailydoseofsunshine23193 жыл бұрын
@@robertgambling502 that may be true, but the nyc subway is considerably slower since the early 90s
