Newkirk Plaza (if I was heading directly home)/Avenue H (if I had after-school extracurriculars at Brooklyn College) were my two home Subway stations from 1973-1992 growing up in the South Midwood/Ditmas Park neighborhood. Avenue M was my station stop for where I went to high school (I went to Murrow). Then I lived in South Park Slope (ironically close to P.S.107 "John Kimball" where I'd gone to elementary school, K-5th grades; junior high school was out of the country in London, UK) near the F & G lines/15th Street Prospect Park station during my "gap years" in between high school & college. Later on, (after I went out of state to college & grad school both up in New England in Massachusetts & Connecticut) when I moved back to NYC & into Manhattan & was living in the East Village on E.12th St. & Avenue A, I was near the L line/1st Avenue station. I moved out to the San Francisco/Bay Area permanently in 2004. Now BART is my subway. 😂 I still carry all those MTA memories with me though. 😁😉

This is a pretty scene, and an interesting system, as somebody who lives in Upstate New York and has three vehicles I could never see relying on a subway to get things done, how do you get your animal to the vet? How do you get ice cream home before it melts? How do you bring home appliances or things of large-volume that you purchased? They seem to take away so much Independence, the only train we have up here is an Amtrak train which goes up and down the East Coast, as much as I love trains I wouldn't want to depend on them for my daily transportation.
@rgalesnyc3 жыл бұрын
You really have to think about urban living a lot of what we need is within walking distance of where we are. Literally there's several vets within a mile to half a mile radius. The ice cream shop is literally a few blocks away. Delivery is also a big part of life. Trust if you brought your car downstate and had to sit in traffic and wait to find parking you wouldn't move it either unless it's the weekend. A lot of postwar towns were spread out and built around the interstate system New York City predates all of that. Just a different environment
