You used to be able to go to the booth agent and buy a card. Now they stopped that. So they have workers sitting in those booths doing absolutely NOTHING! So frustrating because the machines force you to but two trips whereas the booth you could but one fare by slipping the money in and using your fingers “1… or 2” and buy it.

Doesn't the MTA offer these for sale at Walgreens/ Rite-Aid/Duane Reed like our PRESTO card that's used on the TTC (Toronto Transit Comission) and that is sold here in Toronto (at Shopper's Drug Mart and 7-11)?

can you buy a metrocard with your prepaid commuter Mastercard? and do you need to enter the pin number that they don't give you when you sign up but they say you "might need" to pay commuting expenses?

@@browkingnyc thanks anyway. I called them. They say you can use the Mastercard to buy a metrocard. Pretty simple answer so I wonder why its not on their list of FAQ. but " why are you asking for my email address" is.

@@lilyy2098 well.. I guess that all depends how many times you plan to use the subway. If NYC is your first time, personally, you will be doing more walking around. I think buying $20 card will be a good start. You can always refill as needed basis
