No matter how your stands is on Ronald Reagan, i think this ad should be the gold standard on what a great political ad should be. Tell us about the great things that our country has achieved and what great things are awaiting us in the future. Most political ads these days are based on fearmongering and "other side bad" without actually saying what great things they do.

Totally agree. I am a huge Carter fan. I'm from England but went Plains Georgia last year because I really admire President Carter and I know this advert was from Walter Mondale challenging Reagan but this advert it superb. It is very emotional but in a good way. Really speaks to a voter. His team did very well on this.

There were 56 people shown, and although its hard to tell, it appears that about 52 were caucasion, 1 was asian, two were Hispanic or Native American, and one was Black. That certainly would not have been relfective of the population at that time. If that were the case there would be about 6-7 Black Americans in that video instead of one.

Might as well be. I know Dems think it will be hell, but there is an issue with growing regulations and state apparatus. It is not more difficult to run the country as in 80s, we have all the new technologies and stuff, so why the costs are balooning all the time? Why government is financing research and papers on gay sex positions and gloryhole places in NY? I know we need to support Arts degrees and stuff but maybe research important things?

I am a firm left winger who found this president to be where the modern rot began in America due to corporations rising to be more powerful than governments under the weak western leadership of Thatcher and Reagan who bent their peoples and many others over a desk for whatever the hell a bastard of a capitalist wanted at the time, resulting in the mass decline and ruination of the majority western workforce over the proceeding 40yrs to today, but it was a very good ad campaign admittedly.

And at the very end it does explicitly say, "Why would we ever want to return to where we were less than four short years ago?" with the unspoken ending "... when a Democrat was in charge? It's morning again in America. Today, more men and women will go to work and earn less than ever before in our country's history. With interest rates at about double the record highs of 2019, nearly 2000 families today will lose their homes, more than at any time in the past 4 years. This afternoon, 6,500 young men and women will be divorced and with inflation at more than triple than what it was 4 years ago, we can look forward with dread to the future. It's morning again in America, and under the leadership of President Biden, our country is poorer and weaker and worse. Why would we ever want to return to where we were, less than 4 short years ago?

Man, how I wish this was the 1984 year and not 2024. I was born in 1998 and I keep telling my mom how she was lucky to be a late teenager/early 20s in 1980s. She agrees of course. I miss those days, although I didn’t even exist then. I will forever quietly weep because I will never get the chance to live in this timeline. 😔😪

It was very wise that this ad targeted financial stability - luckily nothing untoward happened in financial markets during the next four years of Reagan’s presidency and his free market policies - especially surround the bond markets.

No, Reagan just created the long term poison that is fucking us over now. 40 years of stagnation for working people leading directly to the almost fall of the republic. Directly from the 80s shortsighted “conservatism.”
