@ajluellen Thanks! I used Beacon's Fabri-Tac. You could use hot glue too. The Beacon's gives you a little wiggle time if you need it.

I'm sure more layers would probably look beautiful. It just depends on how bulky your combined stems get.

I think you can buy nylon specifically designed for making these kinds of flowers, but I just used regular ladies or childrens panty hose.
