Really enjoying this series of livestreams! A lot of the information I don’t really know, and any that I do is pleasantly expanded upon. Thanks Robert!

Nights Watch = Night/Evening, hence why after joining the Nights Watch Vorian Dayne was given the alias Sword of the Evening. It sounds cooler than Sword of the Night or Sword of the Night's Watch. The men of the Nights Watch gave him this alias.

Would love if you could spend some time talking more about the differences between the books and the TV show in terms of the individual main characters. Thanks! Love your work

Definite Carthage influence in Nymeria. Very similar to Queen Dido who led her people across the sea to found Carthage.

in the ukraine, there is a river named dnepro, and some parts of it are so wide that you can't see the other side. so there seems to be really a lot of different irl rivers from Europe that inspired the rhoyne.

Please do a theory stream or episode about how you think Brynden Blackfish will come back into the story and what role he will play in the story's conclusion

May I request that you do something, either in the title of your videos, or the thumbnail, to indicate what fandom they belong to? I love Tolkien, but am avoiding spoilers for several others, not having had the time for them yet.
@matthewbacon7172 жыл бұрын
Well, if you love Tolkien you're more than likely aware that Nymeria and the 10,000 ships don't feature in his work. Just as a first clue. Also, check the playlists. The titles of the playlists make it pretty clear which fandom they belong to. Also, the internet is a pretty bad place to be if you're avoiding spoilers. Like anyone could tell you that Littlefinger and Olenna Tyrell murder Joffrey Baratheon, or that Ned Stark is executed at the end of the first book, or that Jon Snow isn't Ned's son and is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, or that Robb Stark is murdered at the Red Wedding, or that Stannis the Mannis is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, or that Theon Greyjoy gives Sansa Stark head or literally any number of things. Just as a warning!

I love the new setup, Robert. I love the set with the image and better camera maybe(?).

That's not why the boats were burned in Tolkien. Those boats were burned to keep them from going back to pick up other, potentially politically adversarial elves. Totally different situation.

I have to disagree on the Dune books after the first. They didn't compare favorably at all to the first one, in my eyes. Also, I think the most important thing I want to know from a review of Dune the movie is "how well did they tell the story given in the book?" That pretty much has to come from someone who's read the book.

One thing that bothered me quite a lot about the TV show was when Dany flew the dragon up to north of the wall to rescue John and his people. I forget exactly where she came from, but it was quite a lot south of where John was, and yet it felt like she got there quickly. Even on a dragon it should have taken days. I suppose one can claim we weren't seeing the events in real time, but if so that was not made clear at all.

Clearly Lyanna was a lesbian and she made a deal with Rhaegar. Have a secret child he can have legitimized and he gives her a ship to sail away on.

What made Babylon 5 different is the whole thing was planned, including contingencies. JMS had back ups in case actors became unavailable (which they did), but didn't just stick the new character whole hog into the old one's storyline. He knew it was five years, but could finish the big stuff in four if he had to (which he did). The last season suffered because the last minute reprieve meant side stories had to move front and center. Most arc shows, today, don't really have a plan past the current season. They pepper in things for an overall series long arc, but without a plan in place things stop making sense (see Battlestar Galactica).

The name certainly reflects the historical figure/legend Darius 1 and the 10,000, who invaded and conquered Persia, even of the story doesn't. Savvy and smart like him too, perhaps?
