A mentally ill family member who is homicidal can be forgiven, if they wronged you and loved from afar. If they are committed to mental institution, or jailed, do you stop loving them?

Domestic violence calls are the most dangerous. My experience as a child over 40yrs ago is part of the reason I have not gone back to my country for over 30yrs.
