Trained in New York but working in Florida? Many NYPD officers are handing in their badges and then heading south. For a little over a year, Florida's governor has been luring them, and now moving companies are even partnering with him. CBS2's John Dias reports.

Fl is now the fastest growing state by population in America. Approximately 1,175 people from other states move here DAILY. Our family did the same after living here about 1/3 of each year. As NYC decayed we got out and that was well before Covid. Our business clientele has moved from the NYC metro area to NC, SC, GA and FL. So it is not only the people moving out but they are taking their businesses and employees with them. This trend started in earnest 20 years ago. Second homes became primary homes.

It’s so sad that the NYPD doesn’t see the problem, working 5 days a week for 8hours and 35 mins, quotas, days off being denied, struggling to find child care, ordered overtime almost 3 times a week, most days going without a lunch hour, arrest processing that takes almost 5-12 hours, bosses that don’t know what they’re doing, only promoted because they cheated on a test. I'm retired from the Newport News police department in VA Since 2018, according to a few co-worker's there 70 to 80% of the officer's in patrol division have approximately 3 to 5 yrs of experience. That's really bad considering that the agency is about 500 to 600 man dept. Within the last 4 yrs so many detectives and officers with 20+ yrs have thrown in the towel, now the chief is no longer posting retirement or resignation because it's effecting moral. From my experience living in Florida, this is my opinion from my experience, I didn't have a great experience living in Florida. Floridian's know a person who is from out of state. Floridian's call people from out of state Northerners. I experienced racism and discrimination. My family and I went through Hurricane Matthew. We left Florida because of the EXTREME heat and humidity plus the hurricanes. We moved to the suburbs of Pennsylvania. We are happy with our decision of leaving Florida. I wish these New York City Officers best of luck if moving to Florida! I know New York is getting more expensive and harder to live

For many years, struggling in NYC working 2-3! jobs 💪 at one ☝️ and never able to go back to school to finish my education after l got my H.S. Diploma! I was always and had to? Be working!!!!.. Until..one day l said, Enough is Enough, l must get out of NY!..l didn't know where l was gonna end up? But lm pretty sure l don't regret it one bit, to have left NY!? In here, I've been able to finish my College degree!! I'm working in a hospital. You all have no idea how grateful 🙏 lm every time l look at my hospital ID and badge? I only had to wait 30 years to get it. But IF l would've stayed in NYC? I would've never got it. Period. Oh l almost forgot? Best thing I ever did was leave that thankless city and the job. You grow up in the projects and you are either a product of your environment or become a victim of it. Those that became successful did not come back, leaving nobody to look up to for those young individuals. The “renters” don’t want us there.
