I think the real truth is that the treatment of the Palestinian’s could be much worse, the leverage the west exerts is preventing it from getting worse, and that testing the limits of the influence we have risks being counter productive. Just a guess but I’d imagine talks between the Biden administration and the Israeli government require a level of tact that preclude one from making provocative statements on the internet. I think we all will come to have a renewed appreciation the value of disgression and tact over the next 4 years I expect Israel’s preferred solution would be deportation of the residents of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and that would be achievable without western assistance but with a lot of fallout produced. This chaos is what the relationship allows us to avoid

Mr. Sullivan doesn’t feel he should dictate terms of negotiations with Russia, yet he felt fine about dictating tactics in Ukraine‘s war against Russian invasion. Not allowing U.S. provided weapons to strike inside Russia has gone a long way toward preventing a Ukrainian victory that would set suitable terms for a free and sovereign Ukraine. Despite vacillating U.S. support, Ukraine has exacted enormous human and materiel costs from Russia. Mr. Sullivan’s caution has brought Ukraine and the west the prospect of a frozen conflict and more trouble to come.
@LindaCarruthers-dg7gp13 күн бұрын
Indeed. War crimes in Gaza because of unbelievable fealty towards Israel and concomitant disdain for Palestinian lives, and lack of urgency towards providing Ukraine with everything it needed to take the fight up to and into Russia. @WhizzingFish1211 күн бұрын
Horse crap. Israel couldn't have done that if it wanted to. Note that Gaza has a border with Egypt that's even more heavily fortified than the Israel/Gaza border. Wonder why that is? And Israel built its fence to stop Gazan suicide bombers. And checked incoming trade bc Hamas was relentlessly smuggling in weapons. And prevented the Gaza airport from oper bc you and I both know Hamas would have used suicide planes to attack Israel. Until the Palestinians recognize that Israel has a right to exist (which it most certainly does) and gives up the pipe dream of driving the Jews into the sea, they will continue to live immiserated lives.

I would argue we should dictate Ukraine's approach towards negotiations. Falling back on the principle of "its their land they should decide" is unethical in the sense that Ukrainian's are experiencing nationalist huberous, meaning regardless of the pain and suffering this war is causing, Ukrainians are, against the best interest of humanity, tolerate of this devastation. They are prioritizing their preference for flag that has the color yellow on it over mitigating death and destruction. I'm not saying they should surrender, however echoing Richard Haass analysis, they are wasting lives and money on terrority that is deeply entrenched into Russia's sphere at this point.

Democrats, when pointing fingers at seemingly trivial "price of eggs" economic reasons, cannot seem to address a core fact: The right candidate for president in 2024 was the one selected among a broad set of candidates best assured to beat Donald Trump. With all due respect to Kamala Harris, at this particular point in time, she was the wrong candidate for that critical role. In that regard, the party mismanaged the short opportunity they had to make sure the right candidate was chosen. Therein lies the critical lesson.

the way his person talks speaks really well to phenomenon of how a declining power sees itself. He can talk for hours about how strong america is, how good the economy is, about how they have the best relationships ever with foreign powers: this is how the elite sees things. Then you talk to the vast majority of the population and they'll give you a very-very different picture about how america is doing. This is precisely what came through the last election. Another major sign of waning power is how foreign powers see the 'United' States. That does not match the petrence of strength displayed in this talk either. when facing problems the worst possible approach is to pretend they do not exist. The disconnect with reality (which matches the views of everyone, except that few hundred people who are actually in power in the United States) that american elites display is a sure way to know that they won't be able to stay on the very narrow path that could save their empire. They came very close to failing, before Nixon gave them another 50 years with the financial reforms. There aren't anymore tricks left in the hat... The most saddening is how far this country diverged from the image it saw itself, which it once was until the mid 60's. I don't think there's way back there.

Oh, and don’t get excited with any SE Asian or Australian appetite for war with China over Taiwan or any other issue. It’s not 1964 any more. Grow up.

Continues to dance around the fact that it’s US taxpayer money that’s funding the Ukraine war. What if US taxpayer like myself think this enough, and don’t really give damn what Ukraine thinks or wants? At the very least we should be getting something in return like mineral rights or land until all debts are paid off with market interest rates.

They confront that question directly at 29:15. I'm sure it would be possible to leave Ukraine to get swallowed up by Russia, or force them to make concessions, get them to give the US stuff, but to do so would be morally indefensible. You'd be letting a democracy be wiped out, and give a massive territorial gain to an autocracy, because it costs too much, and frankly US spending has a lot more areas of gross overspending than Ukraine.

@@josephcorridon9314 yeah I heard that nonsense answer. All American foreign policy should advance US interests so questions of mortality are not as important as you make out to be. The US doesn’t go and try to liberate North Korea because that would be a waste of resources. Mortality this and morality that. Can you please wake up and stop grand standing? The only thing that matters is long term US interests. If Ukraine wants to sell half its country to the US for US aid, then maybe there’s a deal to be made.

We haven't lost a single American soldier in this war. Russian casualties are on track to hit 1 million this coming year. We've been spared the expense of disposing of tons of weapon systems that have been largely collecting dust since the 90's We've collected invaluable data on current weapons platforms of ours such as the Patriot Air defense system, HIMARS and ATACMS, the long range 155mm M777 rounds, heck a Ukrainian pilot just set a world record for taking out 6 Russian ballistic missiles in 1 flight with his F-16 (which were provided by the Europeans, so that they could upgrade to the F-35, which means more jobs domestically) We've also learned about the capabilities of enemy weapons like the dreaded S-400 air defense, and the T-14 ALL this and more for less than 1% of our annual domestic defense budget, to a nation who actually wanted it! I have my critiques and criticisms, I harbor no particular malice towards Russia, I wish that we all could have just gotten fat and along under the golden arches 🤷🏼♀️ may our incoming oligarch overlords be merciful in their grifting

Maybe Americans are wise enough to recognize a con when we see one. How many false narratives about police killing unarmed black men shoved into the collective psyche (etc etc etc!) did you expect us to take before we shoved back?
