The New York Yacht Club held the Cup for 132 years before losing it to Australia in 1983. In 2024, it's clear that they have a fast boat and great sailors and are more determined then ever to win it back.

The 37th America's Cup will be Defended in Barcelona by four-time America's Cup winner, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand.

As an aircraft designer I have to say that American Magic is a gorgeous aerodynamic package. Good luck to them. I see them being challenger and possibly taking the Cup.

Early days but after the preliminary regatta Italy and the US look to be a cut above the rest however It will be very tough to beat the Italians. As the Frankie Goes to Hollywood Song says "When two tribes go to war one is all that you can score" the AC is a sailing Mt Everest but it can be conquered May the best man (boat) win :-)

Agree, they seem to be a cut above the rest but I'm surprised that INEOS dont sail with quite the same finesse as these two, given they competed at the last cup and are well funded. They may come right but while Ben Ainslie is a freakishly talented sailor I think its less than ideal to dilute the skippers focus with other key leadership roles (Ben is also the CEO )

@@number1genoa You need someone ruthless and single minded like Grant Dalton to run the show. Just having heaps of dosh and formula 1 racing teams helping isn’t necessarily going to win the cup for Ben Ainslie. Italy and TNZ saw no added value in the formula 1 input. Let’s hope from the perspective of Ineos they are able to step up a gear for the 1st round this coming Thursday. They won’t be eliminated in the round robin so they’ve got time on their hands.
