It's amazing how remote it seems in the Catlins, looks like it provided a few highlights. Purakaunui Bay Campsite was our favorite and we've never seen the Cathedral caves, your video has us excited about getting back down there. Looking forward to your adventures at Monkey Island then onto Stewart Island

It’s beautiful down there huh! We loved Pinders Pond and Monkey Island (Thanks for the tip 😉) Stewart island was amazing too! Got loads of footage to wade through haha

Agree with the comments that it's pretty spread out and a bit of back and forth to fit everything in and access facilities and shops. Definitely a stunning part of the country.

Nice huh! That’s where a caravan comes in handy with day trips and grocery runs. We loved it down there though! Hope the news Bub is doing well 😊

@@AdventuresWithRosy she sure is. Mum has a broken foot though which is a bit challenging - tripped while away in the caravan. I think our next trip will be Easter time when it's hopefully healed up

Another great video 👍 Catlins is one of those places where you keep finding new things every visit. We've gone through three times now and still find new areas 👍😀 The Lost Gypsy is a hive of interesting gadgets. The area out back which you pay for is a further extension with hands on activities. 👍
@AdventuresWithRosy2 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks! I wondered what it was back there, the Catlins are neat huh, on our list to go back to at some stage 😊

Crown came off my tooth in the McLean Falls carpark eating a fruit burst. Then when we were driving out we suddenly got a couple of bars signal.. quick quick call the dentist in Queenstown! Told them sad story got a booking in Frankton for a couple of days time... all good got it glued on again!
@AdventuresWithRosy2 жыл бұрын
Oh no!! Those fruit bursts will get you. It better have been a green one and not one of the banana ones! 🤢🤮😅

We couldn't get over the good quality of the roads, despite the isolation.

Yeh that’s a good point! Even the gravel roads were great, no complaints there 👍

cheers guys we've been rewatching some of your stuff before we head there... Any top tips on where you can get water?
@AdventuresWithRosy Жыл бұрын
Good question! I’d probably have to look back at the app and see. I know we had water at Curio bay at the campground and a few of the dump stations had water too but yeh definitely need to plan ahead with water down there 👍
@bones37452 жыл бұрын
Catlins area is a stunning place to visit and we agree that Curio Bay is probably the best, although that campground was expensive with very poor facilities the dolphins jumping in the bay made up for it. A recommendation for Invercargill is Hayes Hammer Hardware in the main street which may sound strange but they have a huge display of classic and historic vehicles and memorabilia. Including the real Burt Munro "world's fastest Indian" along with a lot of his things. Added bonus it's free.
@AdventuresWithRosy2 жыл бұрын
Ah interesting, I wondered if the Burt Munro bike was somewhere! Will add it to the list. Agree about Curio Bay, stunning location but not the best for what you pay that’s for sure. Chelsea’s parents enjoyed it and saw penguins as well as dolphins so worth it in that respect 😊

You're allowed to 'complain' about problems 😂, even in beautiful places. We didn't have a camper for that trip and I was with a group that booked cribs/houses along the way so we didn't have dump station issues. I notice most people drive Dunedin - Invercargill in a couple of days. Perhaps the lack of facilities is why. A bit like the West Coast when the PDS at Franz Josef is closed. My only complaint was that I got tired of waterfalls🤣. The Papatowai area was my favourite and my only regret was that our accommodation was up in the hills and not on the coast.
@AdventuresWithRosy2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeh loads of waterfalls huh! We didn’t bother seeing them all. Booking a house is probably a good way to go, just do day trips from there. Pretty stunning part of NZ huh 🥰

Hey guys we have watched everyone of your vlogs, we are big fans 👍🏻 We too are heading down to the South Island on Saturday for a 9 month tour. Just wondered if you guys purchased the DOC pass? If you did, has it been worth it for you, or do you tend more to stay at other accommodation like NZMCA, CAPS, POP, so prefer to just pay at the time. Thanks heaps ☺️
@AdventuresWithRosy2 жыл бұрын
Yup we purchased a DOC pass, well worth it if you are on the road for an extended period of time 😊 there are loads of awesome ones down here. From memory the pass covers all DOC sites now? It use to exclude some…. It seems to change each year haha but we definitely got value out of ours 👍 loads of awesome Freedom camping down here too

@@AdventuresWithRosy cool, thanks heaps for the reply! We will grab one then 👍🏻. Definitely will check out some freedom camping spots too. Exciting, can’t wait ☺️

Great post as usual...im not likely to go there and send my money as there's no RV infrastructure.. it's obvious the locals aren't serious about tourism down that way... never mind you guys had a great time though!!!.😎🇳🇿

We've gone through three times now in our previous motorhome a Mitsi Camper with each trip being about 5 to 7 days. A bit of preplanning for places to stay and no problems. A great mix of Free, DoC and NZMCA spot with a number of PoP/CaP(if NZMCA member) but we've stuck to either DoC or Freedom. This year we'll be going through in our 7m bus. You just make the most of what you can and enjoy. It's worth the trip 👍😀

Yeh its doable just needs a bit of planning around supermarkets and dump stations etc. well worth visiting still 😉
