New colours ceremony, very rare event indeed. Burnham has changed a lot since I was on exchange there in 1986.

I am so pleased to see this! Wow a big bit of NZ Army history! Just a minor thing, what about the 20th Battalion and the 20th Armoured Regiment, probably the most highly decorated Battalion in the British Empire in WW2. The 20th was a Pekeha Battalion made up from South Islanders! Lest we forget the 18,19,20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 were all Pakeha Battalions and the we had the mighty and legendary 28th Māori Battalion and then we went on with our other battalions. My father was in the 1st Echelon of the famous 20th Battalion. He fought in Greece, Crete, Africa, and Italy! He was shot and wounded in a battle at Sidi Rezegh in operation Crusader (This is where the Rugby Team got its name). He ended up in a hospital tent and was well cared for by the German Medics……Rommel popped it and had a good chat to Howard Kippenberger, my dad managed to escape along with 18 others including Kippenberger. I am so pleased to see this ceremony. Thank you! I am sure my Dad would have loved to be there! Well done! I just wished the dude at the end could have been inclusive by sharing what he is going about in English! Showing his arrogance I guess. The whole thing has been high-jacked……..Driving off in an old Land Rover. DEI is full speed ahead in NZ.

Our Kiwi Brothers and Sisters show they know the definition of pomp and circumstance and finesse and discipline in respects of drill. Definitely a force not to be reckoned with. My compliments and respect to the Battalion CO 👍

AS an Ex 2/1 Battlion man myself I was so proud of the entire battalion for thier hard work to make this ceremony an awesome event...2/1 YOU DID US OLD DIGGERS PROUD..but then..we would expect NOTHING less

I watched from beginning to end, it was so impressive. The discipline and finesse, the fluidity when marching, the straight lines and keeping in step were just a joy to watch. It was crisp. I enjoyed the Commanding Officer, his commands were clearly pronounced and obviously he is a major source of strength and leadership. The Battalian has grace and strength. I am glad King Charles 111 has righted some of the wrongs of the past and given six (old) new honours to the colour. Congratulations to the Battalian.

As a former (US) infantryman myself, I understand the importance of drill and ceremony to creating and maintaining good order and discipline, but frankly it should always take second place in combat arms units to increasing their lethality and survivability on the battlefield, especially given the rapidly changing nature of the modern battlefield.

1NZIR is very understrength these days, we can barely pull a single BTG together for deployment at the moment. The new aims of the NZ Army is to provide a single mechanised Battalion to an Aussie MOTINF brigade if needed - we are a long way from that.

The RNZIR has its own corps of drums, separate from the band obviously, or are they just ordinary soldiers of the Battalion who were tasked with the piling of drums ? Great to see SLR,s still being carried by the old colour party too.

@clementleow7609 Hi, i was a member of this unit. The Battalion was the reformed 1st Bat. RNZIR, except initially we were just the NZIR and later became the RNZIR, we served in Malaya 1961/63. I was 21yo when we went there. I'm now 84yo. Never forgot anything or anyone else who was there. I often contemplate how many i knew are still alive. Robert. 39636. 6PL BCoy I Battalion RNZIR.

March on parade and march on the escort was to "Glorious Victory" . General salute (bugle)band version and RAF (RNZAF) General salute. Royal salute, God Save the King. Slow band troop "Scipio" . General salute "The Points of War" . March past "The Great Little Army" . New Colours march off " Soldiers of the Queen". I am afraid I cannot name the inspection tune, the band quick troop, the Trooping the Colour slow march or the march off. If you are the Scots Guardsman in the profile picture you probably know most of the tunes that I mentioned.

The inspection tune is "Hine e Hine", and the march off and quick time troop is the march "Appreciation".
