My H1 rev1 has been doing fine post recall. NZXT even sent me a free replacement glass panel after It scratched mine. Yes I'd probably Consider the rev2 case but not at $350-380

Had no interest in the original H1. This one I'd actually consider using, but honestly with the SuppD Meshlicious I don't see why I'd go with the H1 V2. The Meshlicious is more compact and supports 280 AIOs. I also rather supply my own cooler and power supply.

I think they initially responded poorly but seem to be working to change things. I bought a Creator PC from them last year (10900k, 64GB mem, EVGA 3090 FTW3) and it’s been perfect. I’ve been building my own since the 286sx days (the IBM XT doesn’t count as a build to me 😂) so I haven’t had any need for their support but overall I’m happy with what I got for the money. I recommended them to some other people who don’t have any real experience with hardware and they have been problem free as well with their custom builds. If not for the original H1 issue I wouldn’t have any reservations buying from them at all.

People have reported NZXT downgrading the Seasonic PSU that V1 originally came with to some unknown PSU. NZXT didn't even disclose which PSU the V2 comes with this time (NZXT doesn't have SFX PSUs, it's just a label) and shutting off with 3080 doesn't inspire confidence. It's not even the SFX issue, Corsair's SF750 doesn't do that, for example. The best alternative for H1 would be SSUPD Meshlicious, slightly smaller, also very small footprint, with similar or better cooling, better HW compatibility (you're not stuck with that AIO) and cheaper when comparing case price alone, without cooler and PSU...

Meshlicious is a fantastic case, I run mine with a 9700k and 3080 and it conveniently is perfect for a deshroud mod on a gpu, my fans are directly up against the mesh.

The main problem for me was that it was just large enough to struggle to fit into small luggage’s, and as a college student I want to fly with my computer so I downsized into a meshlicious. It’s still a good case though, but it’s worth noting for anyone who wants to fly with their pc

As someone who bought an early H1 (and I really like it!) I appreciate you all keeping NZXT in check and resolving issues. I was a bit behind the curve on what was going on until I received a replacement riser which I credit you guys for making happen. I really like the case, except the one USB-A on top is a pain and thermals are a bit sketchy at times. I've taken to using a desk fan pointed at the GPU intake for when I'm gaming just for my own peace of mind, even though I'm using a 3070 and haven't had any issues. I was one of the people that loved the idea of this case because it came with CPU cooler and PSU prewired...I hate building in small form factor but love the size.

I've had the v1 for over a year now with a 5800x and a hybrid 3080 with the 650w psu. So far not once crash or shut down due to power. Really happy with the case to be honest. Good changes with this one. But I prefer my smaller one

@@ph0ftvv no I didn't get a refund due to them sending me a new h1 v2. I requested my defective cooler back so I can fix it myself. I did undervolt the 5800x3d for better temps. Since the cooler works better than the aio it's in fact quieter but ab aftermarket Fan would be regardless, I ditched the stock fan

If you've never done it yet, there's actually a quite viable pdf manual available from NZXT for free as part of the build-it-yourself BLD kit they have. It's not guaranteed to be perfect for everyone, but Jayz2cents did a test build where they got a complete newbie in to test it, and he managed it with only asking 1-2 questions to the pros. That despite Jay having...basically no capacity to wait without goofing around massively. I've breezed through it myself, and, while I don't recommend it as your only source of information, it's definitely a solid source to draw on, even without having a kit where each component is in Box A, Box B and so on for ease of identification. This is assuming you're looking to guarantee you get everything right and are working with more expensive stuff. My first computer build was some DOS-era machine cobbled together out of archaic spare parts my Dad still had in the storeroom - stuff that was sufficiently obsolete that it really didn't matter if it wound up broken. I think we'd just upgraded to Windows 98 or something at the time, so I'd have been maybe 10 or so? But he took a very hands off approach - he explained things like "this is the motherboard, it's the hub everything else connects to" and "that goes directly on the motherboard, do you see a slot that looks like it would fit?" It was a great experience, and the computer did boot to DOS as intended when I was done, but...there was room for me to turn things around and experiment and treat it like a weird jigsaw puzzle because A: I had someone watching who could point out things like "be careful with the CPU pins, they're very delicate" and B: if I did screw it up and break something, it didn't matter. (It's amazing how much things have changed over the years, though - back in those days, there were "sister boards" that filled up most of the PCI slots. (And yes, no e. PCIe was not a thing yet One was what passed for a video card in those days...which is to say, it translated the digital video output from the CPU to an analogue signal to be sent to a CRT monitor. One was a sound card, because onboard sound was limited to the monotone buzzer used primarily for error codes when the motherboard is detecting major problems. One was a board with extra memory slots, because the motherboard's 2 SIMM slots could only handle about 32 kB of RAM and we wanted more like 128kB. And one, to this day, I have no idea what it did. It was a board with a few chips on it. Don't recall it having any outputs or anything else. Also....this was a full tower case and the motherboard basically occupied the entire thing top to bottom along the side of the case that now houses the back panel. And we plugged in the hard drive (which was something like a hundred megabytes? It was a pretty late-gen DOS computer, so not quite as absurd as the 256kB hard drives you hear some talk about) and the 5-1/4 inch floppy drive via 40-strand IDE cables, great ribbons that stretched across the case. ...And for all that's changed, the 24 pin motherboard power plug...looks pretty much the exact same. Generally with more aesthetically pleasing plastic on the plug than the natural off-white colour back then, but it's still a great honking cable that's entirely unwieldy.)

Whatever you do, don't start with an ITX build! It's a ton of hassle to get everything connected and fitting in such a way that the case can be closed (whatever ITX case it might be). You don't want to expose children to the kinds of curses usually uttered in this kind of building process.

I own a H440 and a Kraken X62, still a great case and the cooler used to be among the best before Arctic Liquid Freezer launched. So clearly used to be capable of making awesome products. That's why I have high hopes they'll turn things around for the better in the future.

I know people have had some bad experiences along with occasional PR mishaps but I came from iBUYPOWER which IMO was horrific. Not entirely that is, but quality control was so bad on my first PC. Turned me off for years. My new 5950x + 3080 build is very nice and support has been mostly great minus refusing to make a somewhat last minute RAM swap, which I personally thought was a little ridiculous but oh well. That being said I initially wanted this case but went for 710i instead and vented panels to help airflow. Wasn’t gonna make that mistake.

Super happy with my H1 V1. I have it hot rodded with slim back panel fans and the temps are great. If I had to get a new case, it would be the V2, since it's not that much bigger in dimensions but has better cooling.

Around this time last year I had an original NZXT H1. I immediately returned it to Amazon after seeing the initial coverage. Thank you Steve & team for bringing the fire issue to light. I liked the original H1, great layout, excellent design, very noob friendly. Unfortunately NZXT’s response to the fire issue has been less than ideal, and I’m staying away from them until them until they have a proven track record of being a responsible company, not just when the world is staring at them.

Especially since the internal USB C connector is still not widely adopted. I recently built a PC for a friend based on 10th or 11th gen intel in a NZXT case and the board he chose doesn't have a USB-C internal connector, so I had to leave part of the front panel unconnected. Very dissatisfying! I must say that building inside this case was the smoothest experience I've ever had. Part of this was due to there being no RGB fans/controllers and no SATA drives for sure, but the cable management of NZXT cases is really excellent.

@@LRM12o8 the only problem I’ve had with SATA drives in their cases (specifically with the 2.5” drives in the h500/510) is that they only give 90° connectors meaning that if you put a drive in the side of the case (where the 2.5” drives are supposed to go) it’s extremely difficult to get the SATA cable plugged in.

@@myrealusername2193 Yeah, that can be annoying. Not having angled plugs can also be annoying in other cases. But my point was more that having no SATA drives actually significantly reduced the amount of wires I needed to manage. Plus, the 3.5" and 2.5 bays in the cases I've worked with in the past were either difficult to access or tricky to cable manage, so it did really make the build much quicker and easier. In fact, last time I built a PC for the very same guy, I lost like two hours troubleshooting and fixing a build error, because while I pre-routed all cables before inserting the motherboard (which would cover up several important cable passthroughs), I unfortunately confused the ends of two identical SATA cables and ended up plugging the SSD and HDD together with one cable and two SATA ports with the other one. I noticed it when trying to install the OS and only the ODD showed up. Now, to unplug the SATA cables from the motherboard I had to remove the GPU, and because we tried to save every penny back then (I already advised him 100€ over budget to get something actually decent), we used a case that was so cheap and small that in order to remove the GPU I had to remove the HDD first, as I actually couldn't reach the retention clip on the PCIe slot otherwise 😖 lesson learned: mark identical cables on both ends!

It's a pity that everyone focused on the PCI raiser and not a single word about the PSU and the pump. Many people complain about the noise already without a computer load.The pump can be controlled by DC on the motherboard but still audible. The fan in the PSU is constantly spinning.

Liquid cooled GPUs with modified vBIOSes could do that for a long time now. My old 1080Ti on a custom loop with an XOC vBIOS was hitting ~520w averages at max loads. My friends liquid cooled XOC vBIOSed 2080Ti hits smth like 550w. My other friends 3090 hits 600w with the same deal. Pretty much nothing new apart from Nvidia realizing that power capping cards to all heck is stupid.

Just built a system in the H1 V2. 12700 and a tuf 3080 OC. I am using the aorus b660i pro. The temperatures have been excellent. Under 60 for the cpu under heavy gaming load. Great machine. And great case.

I have three H1 v1’s in my household and went through the entire nylon screw and riser replacement. They even replaced the replacement riser with multiple holes for me with the “better” version with the single version. 20 months after ownership the AIO has packed up. Pump was still spinning at 4000+rpm and I believe the block was all gunked up due to poor internal design of the radiator. A quick visit to their chat support and they have dispatched me a replacement AIO. Note that the warranty for the AIO is three years and all other parts are two years (atleast in Europe). Also you don’t get a full three years on the replacement AIO and it is not an upgraded replacement (like the riser). The warranty just continues until the end of the three year mark. When the replacement AIO packs up again, I will aircool it or move on to a different case. I love my H1 v1 with its custom front metal vented metal grill and I get great temps with a Ryzen 3600, Asus TUF 3070 (with undervolt) and an upgraded Noctua 140mm chromax AIO fan. No need to strap on all these external case fans. Just a shame about the quality of some of it parts but atleast NZXT have acted and improved things with the V2. They still should have offered a vented front grill as an optional item.

tl;dr: NZXT stood behind their AIO after almost two years and they deserve credit in my particular case. A note on NZXT's customer support and standing behind their product. I purchased two H1's in June '20. In Nov. '21 I noticed the AIO fan ramping up at idle and determined the pump was malfunctioning. NZXT offered to RMI the AIO even though I had been using the case for over a year, but I declined because its operation returned to normal after tilting the radiator down a few times--I thought perhaps just an airlock. The issue returned after a dust cleaning session and after almost two years of using the case, NZXT *still* RMI'd the AIO and I have installed the new one they provided.

I built in the NZXT H1 V2 with a Ryzen 7 5800X and AMD RX 7800 XT all at stock settings. It's black & green screening with hard crashes to restart most frequently during high-power draw gaming scenarios. I'm using known good RAM and MemTest86/Prime 95 aren't generating any errors. I've updated windows, clean installed windows, tried running BIOS settings 100% stock with no SAM or DOCP. I updated the BIOS, chipset drivers, used DDU to try different graphics card drivers using driver only and/or the full AMD Adrenaline software. I've also disabled fast boot and done some other basic troubleshooting. My GPU temps are normal for AMD cards and the CPU is 50's/60's when crashing. It doesn't crash my PC when i'm benchmarking the Ryzen 7 5800X bumping up on 90C in Prime 95 or Cinebench 2024. Event Viewer is showing WHEA 18, WHEA 46, and Kernal Power 41. I've built several similar PC's and although issues aren't uncommon this one seems a lot like the low tier included NZXT H1 V2 750 watt power supply can't handle transient spikes. I'll figure out soon enough what the culprit is but to my knowledge the 7800 XT transient spikes aren't as drastic as RTX 30 series transient spikes. It seems like a 750w (although SFX) PSU should be able to handle the transient spikes of a 250watt GPU.

Came to watch this video 4 MONTHS AFTER buying the V2 (the PRO version was on sale at that time). I wasn't aware of the "fire" issue plaguing the product, nor did I bother to do some research other than what other PRE-BUILT computers I can buy out there for my budget. I also didn't care about any of the components other than the GPU (PRO came with 3060ti) since -- as someone coming from playing on a 5-year old Helios 300 laptop, anything up to date is better IMO. I'm really happy with it. I guess I am one of their target customers. Even after knowing the issue/s of the first Gen, I didn't bother returning it.

Honestly, I NEVER even opened the package containing the replacement riser cable for the H1. The moment I heard about the problem, I ordered a (considerably more-costly) riser cable from a more reputable company, and one that only makes cables. As for the H2...or ANY NZXT case...is that I will probably never buy another NZXT case.

But they played stupid games with people's lives, and they won stupid prizes in the form of their torpedoed reputation.

@@HardPumpers In addition to everything CptJistuce said (which is 💯% accurate, NZXT did *NOT* 'resolve' the problem...they only CLAIMED to. Yes, they did come up with a riser cable that WOULD have completely resolved the problem, and they sent 'pre-production samples' to several media sources (including Gamers Nexus), but these 'pre-production samples' we're just a ruse. Something you are either completely unaware of, or are purposely ignoring, is that the "samples" sent to media sources were PURPOSELY created to present FALSE information. NZXT knew that the media sources would test these 'replacement riser cables', and report to all their followers that the replacement cables were of "superior quality", and were guaranteed to resolve the problem. However, when it came to shipping the actual replacement cables to consumers, the cables shipped were NOT the same as those previously shipped to Media sources. Although they were better than the original riser cables, they were seriously inferior to the "samples" sent to the media sources.

Initially purchased this same small cooler from NZXT(1st PC build), and they actually warned me it might not be enough cooling for that high of a processor. Kudos to them for the warning, but after this exquisite testing from GN(as usual), I guess i can run this power house in an ITX with a smaller rad. Appreciate the videos as always. Really needed this, love my h1 v1 and I did get a new riser cable quickly from nzxt but it did get toasty and pretty loud sometimes. The upgraded power supply, fan on the back of the case, additional usb on top, gen 4 riser cable and larger space for upgrades I can’t afford made this appealing to me. Price seems steep but glad to see this is heading is a more positive direction than the v1 case, at some point I’ll look into picking one up.

@Gamers Nexus I have seen various reports with the H1 v1 AIOs block starting to get all gunked up causing the CPU to overheat. I believe this has something to do with the poor finish of the metals in the radiator and /or coolant used. Not sure how widespread this is but I think it may be worth you taking a look and maybe advising on how fix the issue or effectively air cool instead. Owners do get a three year warranty on the AIO and they can of course get it replaced by NZXT for free as long as they don’t open the unit. Problem is that the replacement AIOs are identical and have not been improved in anyway like the risers. Maybe this is an issue with AIO’s in general and not specific to this model. I just had the expectation that a sealed AIO would last 4-5 years.

NZXT never sent me my replacement parts for my H1, even after emailing them about it after they said they sent out replacement parts - no response. Hopefully it doesn't catch on fire!

I’m still using the H1 v1 (with nylon screws) for my 3070 and i7 12700 (limited to 130w). Its main weakness in 2022 is the 140 mm aio. my other itx case, the ssupd meshlicious fits a 240 aio, and my evga 3080ti. I’m considering buying another meshlicious to replace the h1. However I have more issues with hdmi cables on the meshlicious.

I told my friend to pick this one up during Black Friday 2022. Was 200$, which for an SFF case, cooler, and power supply begins to look like a real bargain. Its also VERY easy to build in for a case of it's size. For those willing to spend more than 200, I think the SSUPD, DAN Liquid, and Formd T1 are clearly superior (But require far more work and planning). Shame the GN team just isn't super hot on SFF cases!

there's an issue going around with the NZXT H1 where the stock aios quickly develop (like 1 year or so) some sort of sediment inside them that destroys thermal performance (think 60 degC cpu idle temperature) would be nice if a big channel could highlight it

Right?? Gigabyte just ain’t the same anymore. Friend of mine bought x570 board from them and the board’s ram slots started dying within a year. Poor computer was on life support running on one ram stick. Sometimes it wouldn’t post, or would randomly crash his computer especially playing vr. He was not happy lol.

To add a recommendation to Steve's list of ITX alternatives, take a gander at Silverstone. The SG-14, while large for an ITX case, fits almost anything you want to, including s 3-slot GPU and an ATX PSU. The SG-13 is significantly smaller, comes in a mesh/flow version, but will fit "only" a 2-slot GPU, a rather short (150mm) PSU, and you will find CPU cooling a challenge unless you use water. The LD03-AF is closer to the NZXT H1 in look and feel, and fits reasonably sized components, but goes SFX (L).

I think for this case a 3070ti is the best option if you do not want to replace the PSU with a Siverstone SX1000 (pricey). If you do not mind replacing the preinstalled 750w with a Silverstone SX1000 (including rerouting cables and all) then you are safe to go for a 3080ti or higher with no issues. But again, I would stick with 3070ti for this case and then upgrade to 4070ti when available next year.

Had my h1 v2 for a couple of weeks now, no power issues so far with a ryzen 5 3600, x570 and rtx 3080 asus rog strix combo. But i wouldn't mine if the front panel was a mesh insteed of glass, it properly would help a bit with the temps of the gpu.

My TUF 3080 has occasionally caused my Seasonic Platinum Focus 750w PSU to shut off too. I thought it was the card going bad, but it turns out that's the only PSU it has this problem with. My older Seasonic Focus Gold Focus 850W never had this issue. I'd probably recommend the SSUPD Meshlicious as a good alternative to the H1, but you have to buy your own components.

Would you consider the following methodology for testing mini-ITX cases? Instead of having standardized parts, use a standardized reference case - something like a full tower with well established good airflow. For each mini-ITX case, put together a build that you feel is appropriate for the case, collect thermal data, and then install the same parts into your reference case and collect thermal data in that. Show a bar chart of the different deltas among mini-ITX cases between their thermals and their build's thermals in the reference case. It would show us if the equipment is actively being choked by the mini-ITX case, and by how much (a 'normal' amount of choking among mini-ITX cases, or something especially sealed up, or something that essentially has the same airflow or better than in a well-ventilated full-tower). Same approach for sound, especially if there is also a spectrogram for what is getting thru in the mini-ITX build. I've definitely been interested in the mini-ITX cases, and would be happy to see this kind of content on your channel.

Glad to see nzxt went above and beyond on the pcie riser cable. hopefully that becomes their standard moving forward. For what it's worth, it's possible to get sfx psu's that can handle the nvidia transients. I have a corsair SF750 powering a ryzen 9 5900x and a rtx 3080 ti with no issues even when maxing out cpu and gpu usage. Interesting case, but I prefer my nr200p

Interesting .. I run a 5800X and 3080 XC3 in the H1 V1 I’ve never run into issues with the power supply. Perhaps my variant is a better fit for this build. Maybe test is with some other cards? 6900XT, 3080FE.. alternatively, maybe a small under volt would be something worth considering. none the less, great review!

I don’t know if this case brings enough to the table for the price point. The SSUPD Meshlicious has just as much cooling, can fit full size ATX psus, a triple slot gpu and 240 aios all at the same time. I do appreciate the small footprint though.

I am fine with none standard dimension part so long as they are made available for individual purchase into the future for a price comparable to an in standard part. In my state "lifetime" legally means 7 years, if I recall correctly, and that seems like a reasonable minimum parts availability time. Of course, buyers should be able to freely register the product and be given ample warning of when replacement parts may no longer be available in case they want to purchase a replacement before the support ends.

I modded the v1 case to fit my ASUS rig strix 3080 with power connector from SATA to pcie to get a third connector. No problem on the old v1 650watt power supply. CPU is i7-9700

I've been using Fractal cases for a good while and so far not a single complaint. Sure they cost a bit more but they are so sturdy that you can probably use one case for 3 consecutive builds. fan placement makes sense, plenty of place for drives, dust filters? I got an NZXT fan controller because it was the best option for my needs, but CAM is hot garbage that needs my ethernet connection turned off to activate it (messed up the loop design so I get an air pocket in the cpu block every so often) so NZXT's updates don't reset all the settings on the (has it's own internal memory) controller.

I've had this case and actually sent it back due to VERY high thermals. Nothing compared to your thermals. System specs: 5600X and a 3080Ti FE, both stock. CPU hits 95c while the GPU hits about 86. Even did a repaste and turned around the CPU fan.
