This is why Voctave is the best Acapella group out there. Receives so little recognition
@UserHorologium5 жыл бұрын
@Madison Shepherd As a massive fanboy of both groups, they are not in competition with each other. Other than that they are both a cappella groups, they are so completely different that they are each incomparable on their own. Even on the songs where they overlap, their takes are so dissimilar that they defy comparison. "Mary Did You Know" and "Carol of the Bells" may have been done by both groups, but there is no way to compare them, because each performance is utterly unique.
@nadivkaspi62115 жыл бұрын
@@UserHorologium That logic doesn't make all that much sense though. At what point would you consider two performances too unique to compare to eachother? If a group performed a tweaked arrangement written by another group, is that performance unique? Even if they two performances of the same song are indeed unique, they are still comparable regardless of how different their interpretations were. I think its easy to say, without a doubt, that Voctave is more vocally impressive and more technically talented than Pentatonix, considering both as whole units. When PTX does sing more lyrical and choral music (like their version of Hallelujah for example), they still don't appear as impressive and talented as Voctave. I personally don't think the singers in PTX are *as* great as people say they are. They are really good, don't get me wrong, but they aren't God-tier, or even close to it. They are good singers, and they elevate themselves by singing in a group setting. Voctave on the other hand, in my opinion, has far more technically talented singers. Their group size also allows for more variation in tone, tambre, and interpretation when they bring someone up front to sing solo. It also helps with their mid-range support, and also they have the luxury of having two great high sopranos who float on top of the texture. Its also important to point out that the genres the two groups tend to sing are drastically different, but that doesn't mean we can't include that in out criticism. I personally think that because PTX does a lot of Pop and modern music, they are forced into using a lot of vocal production and editing to match the style, which makes me like them less. I'm not saying Voctave doesn't edit their vocals, they clearly do (as does every successful singer or group), but there is a difference between minor pitch or rhythmic adjustments vs massive vocal production with effects and constant sensitive pitch-correction etc. I don't think PTX needs that either, which is what frustrates me the most. Its a product of the genre they like to sing. Without those edits, it would sound... bad. A big part of Pop music is that "produced" sound, so they need to include it in order to match the style. I know this is 9 months late, but I felt like writing today :)

Jamey's arrangement is a masterpiece. Voctave is his instrument and he is a virtuoso. I've viewed this at least 100 times over the years and I always find something new, in this and all his arrangements. It's like turning a diamond under the light and seeing a new facet. One thing about the video I noticed on this performance, someone told all singers in the background to go ahead and express with their faces, but keep their arms absolutely still. It really allowed Tiffany to shine, not that she's not going to shine anyway, but it allowed all of the focus to be on her. And, wow, does she communicate!

That teenager is now 52 so it was long ago but thankfully he's still a Christian & still listening to Christian music, however the groups have changed a lot but I'm now 75 & love the modern groups mostly. I do however miss a lot of my old time gospel having grown up in the 50's & 60's. My mother loved gospel groups of that era & that's what I grew up on. Great job!!! A new (old) fan from Alabama.

Oh my god, didn't think one could sing higher - and still so beautiful. What an incredible vocal group. I am stunned and moved and overwhelmed...

Amé a Tiffany... I had never heard this wonderful group. In this December 2023 I was fortunate to listen to this video by accident. I have been impressed by their beautiful arrangements and extraordinary voices. I hope they keep going and have a long life. And yes... I loved Tiffany...

I listened to every version out there. I’m very picky with this song. You can hear flaws in their voice with this song. This was the only version I loved. Stunningly beautiful. It’s how I imagine angels singing.

O holy night the stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear Savior's birth Long lay the world In sin and error pining Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices For yonder breaks a new glorious morn Fall on your knees O hear the angels' voices O night divine O night when Christ was born O night divine o night O night divine Truly He taught us to love one another His law is love and His gospel is peace Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother And in His name all oppression shall cease Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us praise His holy name Christ Christ is the Lord! Oh, praise His Name forever His power and glory for evermore proclaim Oh, night divine Oh, night Oh, night divine oh, night devine
