this is actually such a cool and intriguing video. people always rag on all the different endings because of the last way supposedly making them obsolete but their obviously had to be an official ending so that the story could continue into the next game. all the endings are what if scenarios and i think that's really cool. shadow is incredibly powerful but also incredibly volatile at the beginning of shadow the hedgehog so seeing him be influenced and potentially manipulated by all the different characters has so much potential for interesting dynamics and stories (granted the actually story before the endings usually makes no sense). i loved this

​@@tntsonic7482 I think the pure dark ending should have been like this: after you complete the dark mission in gun fortress, Black Doom orders Shadow to give him the other 6 chaos emeralds, but Shadow refuses stating that he needs the 7th emerald to fulfill Gerald's wish. Black Doom enraged by this battles Shadow with rouge thinking that he's finally found the light again. But after the battle, Shadow states that he's going to fulfill Gerald's wish by destroying earth. Rouge tries to stop him but Shadow ultimately axes her off as the camera cuts to Black.

In all seriousness, I like the idea of Shadow becoming so evil, he’d even turn against Black Doom. But I also find that to be a little too similar to the Pure Dark-Hero ending for my liking. I get that Shadow outright serving Black Doom in this ending would essentially be a repeat of the Semi Dark-Dark ending, so my headcanon for the Pure Dark-Dark ending combines elements from both Pure Dark-Hero and Semi Dark-Dark to create a new ending where Black Doom still wins even with Shadow turning against him. In this ending, Shadow tries to destroy the Earth, but just before he can go Super and blow up the planet, Shadow collapses to floor and loses all consciousness. What happened, you might ask? The answer is that Black Doom took control of Shadow’s mind using his psychic powers, because as we learned in the Last Story, Black Doom can control Shadow since he was created from Doom’s blood. To make matters worse, Shadow’s extreme hatred for the humans acquired in the Pure Dark Story has caused any free will Shadow might’ve still had at the time to be consumed by anger and revenge, thus rendering him completely incapable of ever breaking free from Black Doom’s influence. With Shadow effectively being reduced to a mindless puppet, in addition to the Black Arms taking over the ARK, means that Black Doom is now free to conquer the Earth or destroy it as he sees fit. I think this ending works especially well for 2 reasons. The first is that of all the 326 possible paths in Shadow the Hedgehog, one them is titled “Black Doom’s Scheme”. This path ends with the Pure Dark-Dark ending, so perhaps this could imply that Black Doom’s goal, on top of using the humans as livestock, was getting Shadow on his side, whether that be through earning Shadow’s allegiance or using mind control if necessary. The second reason is that this kind of ending speaks a chilling message about the Pure Dark Story; “It’s too late to save humanity. You can only save yourself.”

@@ljnkrabby That's an interesting theory but I'll point out that using the titles is flawed given that many of them are inaccurate to the contents of the ending in question, for example one that leads to the "evilest" ending has "The path to conquest" or something like that, meanwhile the hero counterpart is called "black angel" when it'd make more sense to be the other way around since Shadow does declare himself as being created to bring order and justice to the humans in the dark ending of this path which would implicate being a black angel and then in the "hero" ending of this path Shadow is on a path to conquest.

In the Dark ending, he beats the crap out of Sonic and destroys the damn planet against BD's orders. And in the 'Hero' ending, he betrays BD and conquers the entire universe. That's what Vegeta would've done. Get the Dragonballs, wish for immortality, kill Frieza, dominate the universe.

Something that hit me. The endings on each end of the Hero-Dark spectrum actually mirror each other! Albeit with Shadow on opposite ends of said spectrum. For example, Pure Dark and Pure Hero mirror each other - as if they're the SHADOW of each other! Pure Dark/Pure Hero: Shadow has gone full circle in becoming the hero/villain. In the Dark ending, he destroys the damn planet (his words). But in the Hero ending, he destroys the Black Arms and saves the planet. Hero Dark/Dark Hero (that's confusing!): Shadow betrays his chosen side at the last minute in an attempt to be the most powerful. In HD, he betrays Black Doom to conquer the universe on his own. In DH, he betrays Sonic to prove himself the ultimate hedgehog. Semi Dark/Semi Hero: Shadow accepts identities he was 'created for', rather than crafting his own identity. In SD, Shadow accepts himself as Black Doom's servant. In SH, Shadow accepts himself as 'the evil one', and it's implied that he'll... These contradict the game's theme of crafting your own identity, and thus work as tragic endings. Semi Dark Hero/Semi Hero Dark: Shadow does the opposite mission of the morality you're leaning towards. And thus, Shadow shows signs of living on his own terms. In SDH, Shadow proclaims that, "No-one can tell me what to do." A far-cry from being Black Doom's lap-dog. In SHD, Shadow embraces his history with pride and vows to live to protect the ARK. Quite the opposite of condeming his creation. Dark Neutral/Hero Neutral: They're basically the same ending, but with minor dialogue changes. Shadow and Omega defeat Eggman, take over his empire and kill him.

​@@popothecat9760 Ehhh, not after 06. I think Shadow wasn't such a Vegeta until Sonic Boom timeline, before that he was almost same as his 06 counteroart, cold a bit edgy, but his own person. I think before SEGA made Shadow into Vegeta clone you could make an argument that The Arc ending is what leads to True Ending, everyone is alive and nearby black comet, in this ending Shadow just wants to protect the Arc but that doesn't mean he wouldn't want more answers about his past and he's just Semi Hero DARK, he's not pure hero, so not a surprise he made a deal with BD, plus other endings make no sense why they'd lead to BD, he either beats Sonic or BD, or he kills Eggman, or he has such different priorities it makes no sense he'd want answers from BD

I don’t think Semi-Hero would be as elaborate. In the cutscene before Cosmic Fall Shadow tells the Commander “If what you say is true I will respectfully face the consequences” So in reality Shadow would go back to the Commander and let himself get executed

Shadow was offered to work for GUN, which follows up the events for Sonic 06.] (Note: I’m not sure if Shadow The Hedgehog’s canon ending leads to the events of Sonic 06. I heard that events of 06 were erased after Solaris’s death, so I’m not sure if Sonic 06 is canon or not.)

Since Frontiers has been out for a while now, I'd thought that I would add on to what the events of Frontiers would be like in these endings. Pure Dark: Doesn't happen because the earth is blown up. Dark Hero: If Shadow succeeds then Frontiers more than likely doesn't happen. If Shadow is overthrown, then the events of Frontiers might still happen but with Sonic being dead and all, I'd imagine Eggman would give up since he wouldn't have a nemesis to fight against anymore. Semi Dark: The events of Frontiers wouldn't happen because Earth is under Black Arms control and Eggman (alongside almost all of the cast excluding Shadow for obvious reasons.) would be dead. Semi Dark Hero: Frontiers wouldn't happen because Eggman would be dead. Neutral Dark: Same with Semi Dark Hero. Neutral Hero: Same with Semi Dark Hero. Semi Hero Dark: Eggman would be dead but with his empire now in the hands of Metal Sonic, maybe he might do something involving the Starfall Islands, but Sage wouldn't have been created without Eggman. Semi Hero: While I would just say Frontiers would still happen the same and be done with it, we also have to take into account how both Forces and the IDW comics (since they're canon.) would be changed by Shadow's absence. As you mentioned previously, Infinite would've never become the Phantom Ruby user without Shadow being present to break his ego. This means that the events of Forces either happen in a different way or not happen at all. This is important because Eggman's defeat at the end of that game led to him losing his memory and becoming Mr. Tinkerer. This is just headcanon but I feel like Eggman's brief time as Mr. Tinkerer soften his heart somewhat and this led to him actually treating Sage like a daughter rather than as just a tool. If Eggman never became Mr. Tinkerer and the events of Frontiers still happened, Eggman would be much colder towards Sage perhaps to the point that Sage either turns on Eggman once she realizes that he'll never see her as a daughter or dies permanently since Eggman wouldn't have the emotional attachment that drove him to bring her back. (I haven't played Final Horizon yet, so I don't know how that would play out.) Hero Dark: Shadow would head to the Starfall Islands with Sonic and company and would either end up stuck just like everyone else or be able to escape just like Sonic did. I'm choosing the later because it makes for a more interesting story. Shadow would help out Sonic just as he did in Unleashed and would assist him in the fights with the Titans. When Sonic gets fully cybercorrupted, Shadow would attempt to go off and fight THE END once it reveals itself but would be held back from doing so by Tails, Knuckles, and Amy because Sonic is needed in order to defeat THE END. The final fights with SUPREME and THE END would be mostly the same but with Shadow being present, the heroes would have enough power to beat THE END without Sage needing to sacrifice herself. Pure Hero: Mostly the same as the Semi Hero ending as Shadow not calling Infinite weak Butterflys out Mr. Tinkerer, meaning Eggman treats Sage more coldly leading to her either leaving Eggman or dying permanently.

This is a really good comment and expands upon all these different endings very nicely although I do have some questions and some things I want to point out. Pure Dark: considering the destruction of earth would also most likely be destruction of cyberspace would THE END be freed or would it be destroyed? Dark Hero: I really doubt Eggman would give up with sonic being dead Sure he may be disappointed that he didn’t get to kill his longtime enemy however he still has a world he wants to conquer Semi Dark Hero: frontiers as well as the entire series could theoretically happen if metal sonic decided to take over (assuming he’s even been rebuilt at this point and operational) Hero Dark: Super Sonic and Super Shadow fighting the Titans at the same time would be absolutely insane and (Spoilers for the Final horizon coming up if you don’t want to be spoiled then scroll to the bottom of this reply) assuming final horizon is the Canon path I imagine shadow would have to take off his inhibitor rings in order to keep up with Starfall Super Sonic Overall as I said before really good comment I just wanted to ask and point out a few things.

Come to think of it, nearly every eldritch monster in the Sonic series would be freed by Shadow destroying the Earth. Iblis, Mephiles, Dark Gaia, all of them would've been free to run rampant across the universe. When you also take into account that Shadow would probably become a planet destroying threat along with them, this is probably one of the worst possible outcomes for the Sonic Universe. 2. I admit, I should have elaborated on that Eggman giving up concept a bit more. I think Eggman would give up not just because Sonic was dead, but because his empire would be gone too. The Egg Fleet, his machines and mechs, all of them would've been destroyed by Shadow during his takeover of Earth. Not only would his nemesis be gone but the tools with which he would have needed to conquer the world would also be gone. With all that, I feel like Eggman would give up, renounce villainy, retire to a farm or village somewhere, all that stuff. 3. Not really. I feel like Metal Sonic is a different individual from Eggman both in terms of personality and general goals. He still would want to defeat Sonic and conquer the world, but I'd feel like he'd go about it in a different way from Eggman, and that means that the events of the games wouldn't have happened, or they wouldn't have happened in the way that they did. Also, as I mentioned previously, SAGE would never have been created since Eggman was dead. 4. After finally getting around to playing the Final Horizon story, I generally agree with your assessment that Super Shadow would've taken off his inhibitors to keep up with Starfall Super Sonic. Also, the ending for Final Horizon was oddly similar to what I had envisioned for the Hero Dark ending for Frontiers: that being THE END being defeated without SAGE having to sacrifice herself.

This might sound cliche, but I definitely prefer the "Pure Hero" ending for Shadow. The main reason for that is because of the way SEGA/Sonic Team has treated his character lately. My ideal vision of Shadow is how he acted in SA2 and 06, not an egotistical, heartless edgelord like he is now. The Zombot Arc in the IDW comics was when he was at his worst. Pre-Reboot Archie Shadow was far superior. I still wonder what could've happened if Shadow actually stayed dead after SA2 and how events throughout future games would go. Of course, I'm glad he's still around. Though, it's an intriguing concept to think about. I believe Silver could bring out the best in Shadow and vice-versa if they were a duo. Those two represent the "Opposites Attract" category (like Knuxouge and Whispangle) I don't often ship Shadow with others, but Shadilver does have potential to work well.

Wasn't shadow also egotistical in SA2 and 06? The thing is that Shadow is heroic when he needs to be and that's why he is a good guy. Any other situation? He will trash talk you. Damn he even trash talked Silver so that he understands what's truly happening in 06 and that was actually a good thing. In Heroes that happens between SA2 and this game he fought two teams because they were getting in the way. But ok let's get down to business and the actual Point. Shadow shouldn't always show his good side and more so when he doesn't have a spotlight in the other games he appeared Later (Generations and Forces) In one he wants to prove Sonic but he isn't actively trying to kill him. And ends up cheering for him at the end and giving him advice while he fights Time Eater. In the other one he treats Infinite like shit but is deserved having in count he and his group were thieves and assassins for hire. And even so he came back to help Sonic and helped in the final clash. He can't show his good persona that much because he appears for so little but he does show it. If Shadow stayed dead Mephiles wouldn't be freed or wouldn't have his form. So you have a problem less there. Also one timeline less because Shadow's action wouldn't happen so if Sonic does die and the Solaris thing happened He and Silver would be able to deal with it. Infinite would be replaced by an eggman robot and Forces would just have two boss battles less and probaly there wouldn't be much of senseless killing like Infinite did. Sonic would deal with Black Doom without any problems outside of psychic attacks. And Heroes would just be a little more difficult

With Dark Hero, Knuckles would more or less be rather key in stopping Super Shadow given how he could knock Sonic out of his super fork when they first met. Most likely the master emerald may not be needed and instead Eggman and the rest would work on finding an opening for Knuckles to deliver a blow. Alternatively, Eggman could create a similar machine to the one he used in unleashed to depower said emeralds.

OK, this is a really good video and I do hope we see these alternate timelines in the Shadow storyline in Sonic X Shadow Generations. However, if there are a few things I gotta point out, for one, I would not have include 06 at all in this, and two, the DS version of Sonic Colours is actually canon as well as the Wii version as it's implied that Eggman has actually used the Chaos Emeralds to build the interstellar amusement park and to chain the planets to insure they don't go anywhere and Sonic had found the Chaos Emeralds in the amusment park and the planets and used them to turn into Super Sonic to save the Mother Wisp, who actually shows up in Team Sonic Racing. So, for my interpretation of the semi hero dark ending timeline, Sonic Colours would've never happened without the Chaos Emeralds and thus Sonic Generations never happened, Sonic Lost World would've been the same, just without the Wisps or Sonic calling Eggman "Baldy McNosehair" because he would've never heard of that description of Eggman from the Wisps, Sonic Forces however would never happen without Shadow or the Classic Sonic timeline Generations would've created and Sonic, Tails and Amy would've never travelled to Starfall Islands without the Chaos Emeralds guiding them to the islands because Shadow still has them and thus, Eggman would be forever trapped in Cyber Space, while he'd still have Sage trying to find a way out for Eggman, but without Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles on the islands, she'd have no luck at all, and thus all future games afterwards would've ceased to exist. Knuckles would've also end up forever trapped on the islands too because of his accidental arrival, but Shadow would've never find out about any of this because he'd still carry on guarding the Chaos Emeralds in the Space Colony Ark.

Why would he destroy it if BD needs it? I think it's just SEGA bad writing, this ending should've been reserved for Semi Dark Dark ending, or if it has to be pure evil evil, game should've explained how Shadow ended by disobeying Doom in evil path. Dark Hero made sense, although I think Shadow would use BD army a lot, I think after BD death, Black Arms would recognise Shadow as the new leader due to sharing bloodline with BD, I also doubt this Shadow would be so easily defeatable like you suggested 😅. Also also I think both pure evil endings have potential for a Silver game, where Silver has to save humanity/Mobius from Shadow. Semi Dark Dark Ending I agree with you, plus I think Silver game where you fight BD and Shadow would be dope. Semi Dark Hero is a simple one from you but I might actually like it a lot, it feels very canon-y. Also has tons of potential for future what if games, and shame SEGA never gave any of the endings their own what if scenarios in comics or games. I agree with you on Neutral endings, although I find it funny how you made Neutral HERO ending end up worse than Neutral Dark 😂. Semi Hero Dark ending is actually where I completely disagree with you, while you did provide an interesting what if scenario, I have some mind boggling idea, what if The Arc ending was always meant to be THE canon ending leading to True ending? My evidence? First of all, all characters are nearby, either in Arc or in Black Comet fighting off Black arms, so it makes sense why they all end up meeting up in true ending, also Eggman is still alive, lastly, it's the only ending that makes sense, think about it, in two pure evil endings Shadow is too evil and long forgot about his past with Maria, in Semi Dark endings he either defeated Sonic or killed Eggman so they couldn't show up in true ending, in Neutral endings Shadow wouldn't visit BD since he thinks he's an android, in Pure good endings he either defeats BD OR Sonic, and in Semi Hero Hero ending it's heavily implied Shadow might commit non existence or at least too depressed and he beat BD... That only leaves Semi Hero Dark ending as the sole ending smoothly leading to true ending, heck, to get this ending you HAD to do BD mission, but you aren't evil but you aren't good either, you're semi hero, hero enough to eventually betray BD and go super but not hero enough to realise you shouldn't have given him emeralds for answers. Lastly, Arc ending could also explain why Shadow was so... Absent from future games, he was *protecting the Arc* and he only showed up in 06 due to very important GUN mission and Generations was Sonic's birthday so he might make exception(I don't count rivals or other spin off games as canon) Also also again, in Arc ending he says his goal is to protect the arc, but that doesn't disqualify him from wanting to learn answers about his past, so it still makes sense why he'd visit BD for answers. Hope you read this and tell me if you agree that The Arc ending is the only one of the 10 endings that smoothly leads to true ending 😊. Also I can see very small argument that Vegeta Hero ending could be canon because, well, SEGA constantly forces writers to write Shadow as Vegeta clone even though it makes no sense why Shadow would act not like Vegeta in 06... Maybe because 06 events were erased and aren't canon, that caused Vegeta hero ending to become new canon while Arc ending got retconned? 😢

Hey mephiles couldn’t use time travel to back in time because he uses chaos control. He saw shadow do it and shadow even saids right after it’s felt like my own chaos control. Which give him the idea that 2 chaos emeralds can go back into time, which him n sonic do in 06. Since shadow didn’t seal mephiles he couldn’t see chaos control to then use chose control to go back in time to try to kill sonic. Am I making sense?

Lawful Good ending: Sonic and Shadow go to comfront Black Doom, and save the world. Chaotic Good ending: Shadow goes to save the world by himself, and has a fight with Sonic (assisted by Diablon). Lawful Moral ending: Shadow and Vector find the computer room to stop the Ark from collapsing, and then they kill Black Doom. Shadow then really questions if he should've been created, and Vector is well... Vector... Chaotic Moral ending: After being told that he has no past, Shadow defeates Eggman on the Ark, and swears to forever protect the Ark. Lawful Neutral ending: Shadow and Omega go to comfront Eggman, and they rule the world, ran by androids. Chaotic Neutral Ending: Shadow defends the Lava Shelter for Eggman, just so he can be the only one to kill him. Lawful Impure ending: Despite Black Doom being a major threat, Shadow and Knuckles go to comfront Eggman in the Black Comet, and get all of the Chaos Emeralds. Shadow and Knuckles then destroy the Black Comet. Chaotic Impure ending: Shadow goes by himself to the Black Comet, and helps stopping the Gun soldiers from invading the Black Comet. Shadow gets all Chaos Emeralds, and fights against Sonic and Diablon. Lawful Evil ending: Shadow helps Gun kill Black Doom, and then he destroys the world by himself. Chaotic Evil ending: Shadow and Black Doom destroy the world together. True ending: Shadow stops the Black Comet from crashing into the Earth, and the day is saved. He then decides to move on from his past and carry on with his life.
