O'pen Skiff - 2022 World Championships - DAY01

The O'pen Skiff World Championship started very well yesterday afternoon with 4 races completed in perfect conditions. Wind between 10-15 knots, sun and temperature of 29°C. The opening ceremony which was cancelled the day before because of the high temperatures was postponed yesterday evening. After the flags parade in front of the club, all the teams ended up with their feet in the water for the general picture. The location is beautiful and very appreciated by all the competitors and coaches. Thank you to the volunteers who were involved and to the organization who are very solicited.
On Monday morning the General Assembly took place with the choice of the next World Championship venue: it will be Rimini on the north Italian coast. All the national officials attending are very satisfied with this choice and will go there with their sailing team. The new president Benoit Treguilly was also elected and Guido Sirolli remains vice president.
The general atmosphere is excellent and by exchanging with all the persons in charge of the 11 countries present, the future of the class is positive with a potential of development, and more countries are motivated like Spain or Holland. It was the opportunity to test the new 3.5m sail, perfect for the new under 12 years old category. It is less powerful but still efficient, and will also be a good initiation sail. 4 races are scheduled this afternoon (Wednesday, 20th), splitting the U15 fleet in two. The conditions will be similar with 10 to 15 knots.

Le Championnat du Monde O'pen Skiff a très bien commencé hier après-midi avec 4 manches courues dans de belles conditions. Vent 10-15 noeuds, soleil et température de 29. La cérémonie d'ouverture qui a été annulée la veille à cause des fortes chaleurs a été repoussée hier soir. Après le défilé des drapeaux devant le club, les équipes ont fini les pieds dans l'eau pour la grande photo générale. Le site est magnifique et très apprécié par tous les coureurs et coachs. Merci aux bénévoles ainsi qu’à l’organisation qui sont très sollicités.
Lundi matin a eu lieu l'Assemblée Générale avec le choix du lieu du prochain Mondial : ce sera Rimini sur la côte nord italienne. Tous les responsables nationaux présents sont très satisfaits de ce choix et feront le déplacement avec leur team. Benoit Treguilly a été élu comme nouveau président. Guido Sirolli reste vice-président.
L'ambiance générale est excellente et en échangeant avec tous les responsables des 11 pays présents, l'avenir de la classe est bon avec un potentiel de développement, les pays comme l'Espagne ou la Hollande sont très motivés. C'était l'occasion de tester la nouvelle voile 3,5m, parfaite pour la nouvelle catégorie des moins de 12 ans. Elle est moins puissante mais reste efficace, et sera également une bonne voile d'initiation. 4 manches sont programmées cet après-midi (mercredi) en séparant la flotte des U15 en deux. Les conditions seront semblables à hier.
