Ronnie CAN compete with any pool player in the world at pool. There isn't a pool player alive that can compete with ronnie at snooker. Thats the difference.
@dukester14710 жыл бұрын
I think that's the best way of looking at it mate. It's like driving a car on your test. Ronnie can drive a manual which means he can do anything whereas a 9 ball player is like driving an automatic where he can only be brilliant at pool. Normally the pool players that are good at snooker were not good enough to be big at snooker therefore played pool. :-)
@UndoneFakeJesu10 жыл бұрын
MYLENEIL GUMMIDGE Yeah, pool is for those who think snooker is difficult, and I'd say, therefore for those who have a boring mind. Pool is fun to play when you're drinking beer with some friends, but it's dull to practise on your own, whereas in snooker, you'll always have some work to do.
@Mrphilharmonic10 жыл бұрын
Jesse Heinonen I kind of know what you mean, but if you play pool well, you'll realize it is a totally different game and mindset from snooker. Pool is actually more creative than snooker, but snooker is way way harder in terms of accuracy and technique.
@UndoneFakeJesu10 жыл бұрын
Mrphilharmonic Yeah, snooker is more technical and takes more time and repetition because of that. You can use 'shortcuts' in pool, because you need less repetition because it's not as technical, but the competition is so different, because the game is very different. And sometimes it is more creative, though snooker can sometimes be quite creative too. That shortcut part was btw what the 5 time World Wheelchair Pool Champion Jouni Tähti told me. I guess he knows what he's talking about.

@roto64624 жыл бұрын
Because snooker to pool is like chess is to draughts. They simply couldn’t get close. Snooker players take American pool and English pool and show the best how they should play the game. Snooker is sophisticated thus creates a naturally higher standard if someone has managed to reach that standard. Snooker is hard but classy.
@FIVE-0-APOCALYPTO4 жыл бұрын
@@roto6462 Can you technically explain why instead of just running your mouth? What do you really know about either discipline, other than what you percieve as the obvious mumbo jumbo. I don't disagree with you out of hand, but snooker is not very sophisticated from a random game theory point of view. Do you realize that Ronnie is basically running the remaining colors in snooker, from yellow to green, green to brown, the same way he has already thousands and thousands of times. When by chance, the reds are spread out the length of the table, all of a sudden, what should be easy for your superior players, becomes unrecognized territory and they either fuck it up or noticeably take a lot of extra time. In pool, there is always randomness. Once more, you are gauging off of a bullshit 9 ball game, 1 foul ball in hand. It's a stupid variation designed to be quick and easy. The proper way to play it is 2 foul ball in hand, roll out, all fowled balls spot up. There are other games like one pocket that none of the snooker players would be able to just jump right in and dominate. Not because of lack of knowledge, even though that would be a major problem, but the ability to warp and bounce twist shots etc etc. I mean, when does the snooker player ever jack up? Rarely. Look at Strickland when he jumps over the 8. Nobody squares up like that with that kind of elevation. 9 ball 1 foul ball in hand is a game design where no namers have went deep in world events. Steve Davis knocked on the door a few times. Ask him what he thinks about pool. Snooker players by default are more organized with mechanics. This doesn't mean it's correct for all cue sports. Because if it were true, billiard and Russian pyramid players would stance like snooker players. They don't, for good reason. Snooker players play with a smaller lighter ball. You want to call it chess and classy, go ahead, personally I think you sound like a idiot. You are saying silly cliche's based on presentation. You make no real points as to what and why. I'll play your Ronnie'O one pocket any time for money.

paul couto oh dear “running my mouth” haha child. you’re sad look how much you wrote. I’ll put it simply because I have less spare time than you clearly. Hard to find a snooker table in America. In the old days there was one table in the corner at my local pool hall and no one but old men smoking pipes played the game. Nowadays good luck finding a table. Most pool halls don't want to waste the space with a 12 foot table. I am sure you can still find a table in large billiards rooms (in large cities), but in the average city, good luck. Indeed, I wouldn't know where to go to find a snooker table in my area. I'd probably have to drive an hour at least.

Not really. It reflects that cue sports are not popular anymore among the 20-40 demographic. Payouts are based on sponsorships and advertising dollars which itself is based on how many sets of eye balls are watching. I remember back in the old days, chess was the game lots of people watched. Fischer vs. the Soviets, etc. Now you will be lucky to find anyone who cares about chess. It's the same with pool. In the 70's-90's pool was fairly popular here in America. You would even see it on ESPN from time to time. Nowadays ESPN wont touch it -- the money is not there and it's not worth their time. Nowadays all the rage is e-sports. The younger generation is into that more than anything. If you're a pro LoL or CoD player, you will make far more money than a pro pool player. A teenager now is much more likely to try and become a pro video gamer than a pro billiards player. Times change, trends change. Always have, always will. It sucks for those of us who love cue sports, but it is what it is.

In snooker precision control of the cue ball is absolutely critical to building breaks with next to no room for error. The margins for error are that much greater in pool and the concentration level for the length of snooker matches much higher. Just the mental aspect of snooker is much more demanding. I think that a great snooker player could be a pool world champion, but a great pool player would find the challenge of winning a ranking snooker event formidable.

Now, as to which one of these individuals we're better at one another Sports oh, that is literally impossible to tell because Earl Strickland has never made any attempt to be a professional snooker player or at least try to get involved in snooker tournaments. There have been plenty of times where Ronnie O'Sullivan has gotten his clock cleaned playing American pool. So has Tony Drago and Steve Davis. Snooker players play well in American pool games when they practice and make a concerted effort to do so. So many stupid people on here with stupid comments. Snooker a more difficult game than 9-ball? Well, duh. But go ahead and pat yourself on the back for pointing out the obvious. That being said, line up the best snooker players in the world vs. the best 9-ball players in a series of 9-ball matches, and the snooker players will lose. They will certainly do "ok", but in the end, there are shots that snooker players will be exposed to that they have never seen. Conversely, same players playing a series of snooker matches? The snooker players will win by a large margin.

You pretty much repeated what I stated, except you left out a detail. A snooker "pro" vs. a pool "pro" is what I was referring to. Of course the snooker player will take some frames, (which is why I said they would do "ok"), but obviously in the end the pool pro will win the vast majority. And yeah, I agree the pool pro probably will fail to take a frame from a snooker pro..which is what I pretty much stated..not sure why you needed to state it.
@UndoneFakeJesu10 жыл бұрын
Northof49th1 Sorry to point out, but you're missing something. What you said was that the pros will win in their own sport and vice versa. For all the people who say snooker is harder,pool is an easy game,the pockets are too big. It seems to me that all you have to do is play in every major tournament or find al the big money games with the pros and clean up.

+Raymond Phillips The last time Ronnie was here in the US I think it was a vegas 8 ball tourney back in '06 or something and only because there was over a million in prize money. That's far and away the best payout I've heard of and it'll never happen again unfortunately. But until payouts incentivize players from overseas to come over you will never get to see snooker talent here in the states. Not very often at least. Look at Jayson Shaw. Only reason he came over I believe because his wife was american and they just had a kid but he's the best shooter in american pool right now and he's only been here for a couple years. Know why? Agree with a lot of what your saying, the cue ball in 9 ball is harder to control than a snooker cue ball but the difference in potting difficulty is much greater. Disagree with your comment on table size. On a snooker table you have to stretch and use the rest and extension much more making those shots harder, there are people who comfortable with the rest but no one is as good with the rest than shots where they are cuing naturally.

im a snooker player, and i think its true that a snooker table has tighter pockets and the corners of the pockets are blunt unlike pool so it's extremely difficult to chip them. but in 9-ball or 10-ball, every rack is different. the balls are never on the same spots like snooker, and you have to be spot on with your positioning. it's not like snooker where you can have the mentality of "oh if i run too far for the blue i still have the baulk colours".

@pie365 Immediately after the break shot the player at the table may call a "push-out", and may then shoot the cue ball to any location on the table, without incurring a foul for failure to hit the lowest-numbered ball on the table, and then control of the table passes to the other player. The incoming player has the choice of accepting the table as it lies, or forcing the pushing-out player to take the next shot. Only one push-out is allowed per game, and it must be immediately after the break.

It's difficult to compare the two games, both require great skill (in many cases different skills), but here's where I stand. I've played a great deal of both sports and am far from the standard of professionals in eithert, but if I were 1/10th as good as a pro Snooker player I'd likely be closer to 2/10th's as good as a pro 9 ball player. So for this reason I'd have to say that (for me) Snooker is the harder game to play...For me it's the concentration required that gives Snooker the edge.
@JoshuaBLilley9813 жыл бұрын
@1478ball I was just making a point that snooker has a much smaller margin for error. The pockets may be bigger compared to ball size, but the table is almost twice the size of a pool table, therefore making it harder to pocket balls. And even though I'm 13, I can have a perfect pool game and clear the table in under two minutes, and in snooker, I can only clear the table in about 15-20 minutes, and I've been playing both sports for about the same amount of time. Good day.
@lottaboost42015 жыл бұрын
You can practice pool on snooker table. And you can go to any city in the world and find a pool table to practice on. So a snooker player allready has exposure to pool. Snooker is generally only played in Europe and some areas of Canada, so most pool players have not even touched a snooker table. 9 ball is made to be played in races to 11 to cancel out luck (Best with alternate breaks). I love snooker, I love pool as well. Different games, but both take a lifetime to learn.
@Zhaggysfaction11 жыл бұрын
More often there are only a few reds you can actually pocket so you have to get position on a specific ball in snooker. Also because the balls are smaller you need to be extra accurate to get the balls to go to the right direction and the distances are way longer. Also the pockets are shaped in snooker so that if it hits the jaw it will more easily bounce off the pocket rather than go in. So yeah snooker is harder and I don't see why that is such a problem or a bad thing.
@metalking2113 жыл бұрын
@silfossy how do you think strickland's only made 25 grand? lol
@PomBare14 жыл бұрын
@Lollertron Agreed. You'll find pool fans saying 'oh, has a snooker player won a world pool championship', but the basic facts are you have snooker players here playing pool for the first time and beating the worlds best pool players in a tournament. That is inconceivable if it was the other way round. I would challenge Strickland to play O'Sullivan for a month and see if he can take a single frame off him
@Jimmynable12 жыл бұрын
Yes I understand that but the difficulty in snooker is also in the safety exchange and getting the chance to make breaks. In 9 ball and the European 8 ball you rarely have that safety exchange, a good pool player will break, usually pot something and clear up or run out with one visit most of the time. Now straight pool, one pocket and bank pool you do have the safety exchange and are much harder games than 9 ball. 9 Ball you can win a rack with just one shot.

@hendinho87 7. Who, in your opinion, was the greatest ever to pick up a cue (snooker, pool, whatever)? Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan Pool: Efren Reyes Overall: Efren because I saw him play Jimmy White and Ronnie O'Sullivan 6 years ago, at snooker best of 5 for £100 each if I remember rightly: he beat both of them with his pool cue, and he made 3 centuries!! Now that's special.

I think both are Champions of their own game! Earl is (Like COGsoldier says) the greatest pure shot maker, and in my words the best Natural talent in pocket billiards EVER!!! Ronnie however is INSANELY INCREDIBLE! The first time I saw his record time of a 147 my chin was on the ground, simply incredible. The funny part is I showed it to my girlfriend and remember telling her as it started (She is also a pool ethusiast) to watch how fast he shoots, asking her "Doesn't it remind you of Earl?" Haha

Efren Reyes has a gold medal in snooker. I doubt anyone who knows this fact would put his snooker game down. He's an accomplished all around player. He is head and shoulders the best all around cueist there has ever been. I'm not trying to say his snooker game is better than O'Sullivan. I'm sure it's not since he doesn't specialize in it. I'm just saying don't dismiss his snooker game. If he played against O'sullivan for money...Anything is possible. He is the best money player EVER!!!! PERIOD!

To be honest, I don't know. I was reading an article about him recently. It goes on to give some details about what his schedule is like. The amount of traveling this guy does is crazy. His age is catching up to him. No one lasts forever. I really don't know but I would guess that once he started playing pool and making money doing that...he simply didn't have enough time to do anything else. He probably began focusing on pool instead of snooker or 3 cushion. He plays 3 cushion as well...cont..

Amen brother! I posted this exact response on one of those other videos where someone was saying O'Sullivan is the best all around because snooker is harder than pool. I even read another article where he said his worst game is 9 ball because he doesn't have a powerful break! That's insane. If you do some reasearch on Efren, his favorite game is balkline. I know nothing of this game. It's funny, that balkline is his favorite game yet he's an accomplished one pocket, 14.1, 8 ball, 9ball, 3 cushion player and snooker player! I've been trying to find video of him playing snooker. I really want to see that.

@silfossy Of all these comments this one makes by far the most sense, glad someone else here knows what there talking about, nice one mate. Agree completely. And not just Strickland but all 9 ball players, and an unsubstantiated claim on a 9 ball website that Reyes beat Ronnie and Jimmy White in a game for very little money when no other players have ever mentioned it proves nothing especially when with the schedules of snooker and 9 ball as well as locations of the events would make it difficult to put the three together with Reyes just happening to have his 9 ball cue with him.
@Jimmynable12 жыл бұрын
And if you look at snooker players who have made the switch to 9 ball seriously Daryl Peach was a snooker pro who was ranked in the lower ends of the top 200 and never going to win a ranking event but he was 9 ball world champ in 2007. Alison Fisher was a snooker player and shes a 4 time world champion in 9 ball. So I would say snooker players do very well in 9 ball.
@silvaaa7016 жыл бұрын
O'Sullivan is the best in snooker, never disputed that. Just saying: Don't dismiss talent in any game. A 9 ball player playing 14.1 would have a difficult time. A 14.1 player would beat him easily. A good shotmaker of a pocket billiard game could adapt to another variation given enough time. A good pool player could adapt to snooker. It won't happen overnight. But snooker players act like it's impossible. I would like to see Efren play snooker too. Remember he has a gold medal in snooker. 1987
@dv71314 жыл бұрын
There is no doubt that pocketing balls on a snooker table is harder than on a pool table. Saying that pool players could never play as well at snooker is rediculous. It would surely take some time to adapt however, and I feel the transistion would take a little longer going from pool to snooker than the other way around. The great Willie Mosconi played a snooker champion back in his heyday and he was able to take some games off of the snooker champion. In straight pool Mosconi dominated.

i don't think you've played on a snooker table before. the rounded cushions push the ball away from the pocket, not pul it in. the rounded corners are very UNtolerable. and the pockets are TINY compared. a gold crown's pockets are about 2 to 2.25 ball widths. on a snooker table the it's like 1.5 ball widths. also the table is HUGE!
