When I think about what Bahá'u'lláh suffered, it makes me sad. In His last book, He spends a lot of time making the case that He didn't ask to be God's Manifestation. Really, it only caused Him, as you say, 40 years of every conceivable trial and tribulation. Yet He never changed His mind, never said He'd had enough, even as He acknowledged most of the people weren't (and still aren't) listening to Him, He never wavered in His determination to give us this world-healing Message in writing, which His pen symbolizes. We can know for ourselves if His claim is true by reading His own words and learning what happened to Him and how He faced so much cruelty, like the Báb before Him, with equanimity. It's really a compelling history, and it's recent enough that I met a man who knew Him well, and I met many people who met 'Abdu'l-Bahá. What a bounty, as we used to say all the time back in the day. 🙂
