No its not. This is the tune pretty well universally sung outside of Methodism

Well as it was written by Charles Wesley and the tune was written by a contemporary maybe Methodism is right. Admittedly this tune is by Samuel Wesley but he wrote it much later!

Personally I think this is an incomparably better tune than the other one. It is simply glorious and sheds light on some of the most inspiring words Wesley ever wrote. It seems a little stubborn to stick with a tune just because it was written by a contemporary when a relative of the author composed something so perfect. Perhaps the new tune was seen as too modern at the time!

I know there is an alternative melody but this one, which we sang at school, is so beautiful, (I especially love the 3rd line!) and I find it very moving.
