When I first watched as a 12 year old, I didn't sympathize with Ikaika. Now I have a different outlook.

+theworldastage Indeed. Rushing the guys to sign contracts BEFORE the final 5 was chosen, therefore while the boys were still "competing" for a place was an extremely slimey and underhand move by Pearlman. you are right, it is easier for us to have this different outlook now it has been fully revealed to us (and the world) what a vile and cheating "businessman" (and human being) lou Pearlman is? Further to the contract thing, Ikaika has since reported that lou pearlman at some point got him alone and said this: ' I'll be like a father to you-me and you against the world. WE HAVE A SECRET. I'll take care of you. You'll be my guy.' Now, as similar conversations/incidents have not be reported by any other O-Town band members - It is not clear whether Pearlman said this statement or something similar to Ikaika ONLY (personally, i CAN see the slimey cunt having pulling them ALL to one side at sometime or another and saying something similarly creepy, thereby covertly pitting them against other and simultaneously making them feel isolated- like any grooming process does). But it IS true that this made Ikaika feel very uncomfortable with pearlman, and after he reported the encounter to his family, this was the REAL reason that Ikaikas brother flew back with him to mainland and basically never left his brothers side...some of which we see in the program. So what in reality, what the program tries to portray as Ikaikas brother being controlling and overbearing - is him having real concerns and being UNDERSTANDABLY protective of his younger brother. The whole thing just makes ya 'squirm' all over doesnt it?

+TrollU IntoThinking Right. From what I can tell, I don't think the other guys really understood what was going on and/or they were blinded by their goals. Pearlman probably came onto Ikaika the strongest. I remember reading one of Pearlman's other bands (I can't recall which - it wasn't BSB) that one of the guys realized he was chosen to be the sacrifice of the group, so to speak. Not sure how far that went.

When this aired, i was like 10 years old and i hated ikaika for his actions. Today, i understand why ikaika made these decisions. He was way mature for his age
