It is flawed to blame Australia’s economy on national energy "poverty". If domestic energy prices is to be very cheap as you have suggested in order to encourage industry consumption, there would be more blackouts in summer due to higher energy demand, because Australia’s existing energy supply infrastructures are unable to cope even with current energy demand. If energy demand increases exponentially, the existing energy infrastructures would need to be increase, hence pushing up energy cost even further without state subsidies. The solution is therefore to reduce energy consumption, not increase it, and to increase energy efficiency of both residential and commercial/industrial/transport sectors.
