@@MattZRJSRoxy, I think the benefit of the doubt needs to be given to the fielder since he was deprived of the opportunity to make a play on the ball. If there was no interference and the ball was played cleanly off the fence, who is to say a good throw would not have caused Trout to be put out at second or third base as he tried to stretch the hit?

Bryan Bordes If they moved back the bleachers a little bit during the off season, that would solve the problem of fans hanging over, & the ones bitching are those who say the game last to long, like instant replay reviews can really solve that problem. So the ones bitching are the ones who bitch about the time of a game, but I don't expect you to understand that, & I don't have the time to try & talk horse sense to a JACKASS.

My understanding is that interference ends the play immediately. I think that NY said that because of where the glove is compared to the wall, its not possible to say that it is going to be a HR, and that is why they put him a second, instead of a HR or 3rd. Because the play ended and that was where he was at the time.

that's not how interference calls work Braden. Once fan interference is declared it's a dead ball and it's up to Umpire judgment on what the correct ruling is for the runners. Robby LaFavor if you reach over the boundary and into the field of play, it is fan interference. A ball that's hit in between the lines must clear the fence in order for the fan touch it. Even if the ball looks like it's going out for a homerun, the fan has to wait until it clears the fence in order for the fan to touch it, and doesn't matter how high the wall is. By the letter of the rule, that's still interference.
