To War In Cali: This is Oran from Oakland. I was at the showcase when they were filming the player's ball. Most people believe that pimp Don Magic Juan started the player's ball in Chitown. But Frank Ward started the player's ball and players picnic in 1968 or 69. I missed my chance of being famous because at the filming of the players ball there were literally hundreds and hundreds of people at the showcase lounge on telegraph ave in north Oakland. Frank Ward was not only the biggest pimp on the west coast but one of the biggest drug dealers also. Frank Ward was killed on the same street i was living on Parker and California streets. Frank Ward had the first Rolls Royce i had ever seen. Frank Ward used to call himself THE PEACOCK REFERING TO HOW FAMOUS HE WAS AND THE STAR OF THE SHOW.

People don’t often talk about the other side of the Panthers’ story. At some point in 70s, not only were they going to war with federal authorities, but they were jacking and going to war with dealers and gangsters. They started with their idealism and lifting up the community and feeding the kids but the Panthers were straight soldiers and certain factions at least were savage in the 70s.

Ted Ward & Willie Ward remained in Oakland. Frank Ward wasnt killed by The Panthers more than likely Frank was killed by some stick up men from St. Louis who were on the run for holding up a gambling spot in Los Angeles where they shot, killed & held a man hostage. So when The St. Louis cats get to Oakland they're peeping out gambling spots & who gots money. Eventually they caught Frank Ward slippin in Berkeley, California killing & robbing him. To make a long story short, 1 of the killers fled back to St. Louis where someone he had in his car robbed & killed him for Frank Ward's jewelry. I believe the other suspect returned to Los Angeles & was arrested for the robbery/murder at the gambling spot in Los Angeles.

@@thereverend510 now it could very well have been a hit/robbery but brotha from what i read Frank Ward was the passenger in Blanche Bernard of Los Angeles vehicle & they were sitting talking in front of an afterhours/ gambling spot in North Oakland called The Chicken Box for a long time before they drove off to an after hours spot in Berkeley, then 2 cats appoached the vehicle Frank Ward & Blanche Bernard were sitting in & at that point i cant recall if Frank Ward was driving Blanche car or Blanche was the driver. One of the suspects got in the back seat of the vehicle while the 2nd suspect drove the vehicle the suspects came in which was a white 1964 Pontiac & they forced them to drive 8 blocks away from the after hours spot to the 1600 block of Parker Street in Berkeley & shot Frank Ward in the left side of the head taking his jewelry & shooting Blanche Bernard also in the left side of her head from 6 to 8 inches away while Frank Ward was shot in the back of the head from a little further distance. The suspects didnt take Blanche Bernard's jewelry & she managed to crawl to the front porch of 1632 Parker Steet where she died. The weapon was never recovered but lab results indicate that the weapon was a 38 special Colt revolver with 158 grain bullets. The names of the alleged suspects were cousins; Otis Edwards of Los Angeles by way of St. Louis & Paul Edwards of St. Louis who allegedly attempted to pawn Frank Ward's jewelry to a pawn shop owner in St. Louis. Paul Edwards was later shot, robbed & killed by a passenger in his vehicle for Frank Ward's jewelry. All of this is alleged & its what i read in Chloe Sylvers of Oakland book on Frank Ward. She a very thorough job researching her information & you can purchase her book The Fabulous Ward Brothers on Amazon or you can contact her yourself on Facebook through Messenger for more information on the matter which i did.

The Ward Brothers were from Uniontown, Alabama & grew up with their family share cropping. The oldest brother Drew relocated to Detroit & learned the pimp game then he came back down to Alabama & schooled his youbger brothers. The brothers eventually relocated to Los Angeles while Frank Ward moved with relatives to The Fresno area where he attended high school before LA got too hot & the Wards along with Frank decided to relocate to Oakland, California where they had family & Oakland was on the come up in the 1960's so it made for an ideal spot for The Ward Brothers to set up shop to pimp & hustle.
