I was taking a family member to pill hill for a medical procedure and we turned on the wrong street, I’m not sure which one it was, it was some sort of crazy post apocalyptic scene. It’s very dark under the freeways, even in the daytime. There was a mattress in the street and tons of grange and homeless and vehicle, I can’t describe it in any way that would make you visualize what I saw. It was crazy and scary. There was a car ahead of us so and then someone approached behind us and we thought it was a set up for a car jacking because we were unable to move forward or back. Thankfully the person in front of us moved and we got tf out of there. So I sympathize with what “Nikki” said. I would be worried for my kids too..and myself as well. It feels extremely dangerous. Very scary.

@@aylbdrmadison1051 "Crime naturally goes up concurrently with wealth disparity." So does drug and alcohol abuse. So does blaming everyone else but oneself. Not that crime is ever OK but why do today's homeless in Oakland rob and steal from those who are barely making it as seen in this video? I slept in my car while going to school and working at FedEx at night when I survived off of beef jerky, ramen, bread, and water (all from Costco) for almost 2 years. Not once did I think of robbing someone or turning to drugs to ease my pain or, loitering and littering in someone's neighborhood. I know many other college students who did the same and most had it worse than I. Sorry, but people need to stop blaming others including wealth disparities. These same people you are seeing in this video will not stay up all night studying or are willing to work 50 hours per week for no extra pay in order to maintain their job.

There needs to be a program where the people who have jobs but just can't afford a place, can live in homes owned by the city with an agreement that they will work on fixing the property or keep it up to code while they're living there. I can already hear the negative comments that people are going to make about this plan 😮 All I would ask them is...What's your solution?? Because the homeless problem affects so many other people who are just trying to make a living and support their family. I live 10 min away in Emeryville, i notice actually the homeless are very peaceful and passive. These ppl do not want to see the signs of poverty in glamorous California. My family and I frequently organize homeless food drives in the bay area and we see them as actually very gracious and shy ppl. You should take a look for yourself on what the media covers before listening to their narrative. We drive under this bridge all the time and because i watch the news you assume these homeless ppl are so angry they are gonna throw rocks at ur window, but exact opposite is actually true. You dont become homeless in California because your angry or violent (those ppl work in corporations). The ppl that are homeless most of them got there because they honestly worked, lost their jobs and took that very personally. In California, the corporate ladder rewards stealing and being cruel so usually nice ppl lose their jobs quickly and this can happen very easily.

Nowadays you need ID, s.s card, cell phone and a place to charge, be able to pass multiple background checks, among other things to get employment. Good luck getting your social security card without an ID and birth certificate(most homeless end up losing their documents after a couple years). Any felonies and your doubly screwed. Then you will have to have money for a cellphone, service, and a place to constantly charge. Then you have to worry about transportation. Then you gotta worry about finding a place to take showers and do laundry, sure sometimes a shelter will work out, other times it won't, and shelter life has its own politics to worry about, that's assuming you can get in most nights, and once again any felonies and you get a perma ban right off the bat. This isn't the 1960's anymore, getting a job isn't so simple as walking up to a restraunt and giving them a resume, nowadays there's tons of different checks to go through, and you will need multiple documents, cell phone, internet access just to get started. Fall short of a single document or electronic device and its a flop.its funny how naive these old timers are, the world is a different place nowadays, it's not so simple.
