Oakland Police Commission to meet over chief candidates after mayor's rejection

The Oakland Police Commission is holding a special meeting on Thursday in closed session to discuss the logistics of finding new police chief candidates to provide to the mayor, a day after she rejected their three choices, which included a man she fired 10 months ago.

They have candidates but they are garbage that were fired from their positions from another town and the other are riddle with scandals and so we are left with these clowns. Can a police department function without a police chief? Absolutely....might as bring a committee oversight to run the police station because leaving everything to them well...we have the current result of their lack of efforts with rampant crimes and them supposedly making progress.

Maybe he meant that he is selectively in certain area being a token while the city continues to decline with the rampant increase in violent crimes, assaults and etc while the rest of "his staffs" are supposedly making a world of difference in delaying responses and catching all these supposed criminals...supposed. So much so that the Starbucks and other quick shop near the airport have all been robbed so many time that most of them shut down. Where were the cops? Supposedly busy driving around in groups admiring the street walkers at night. Oh wait, the last victim was at that 7'Eleven store on the very same street those street walkers worked on. Where were the cop? Supposedly working on serious matter. Oh wait, what about that obvious one where that giant white hummer made a left turn and ran over a woman in front of a police cruiser. Were they able to find the giant white hummer? Nope...they were supposedly tending to the woman and the rest were supposedly busy at the time. Might form a small community taskforce to oversee the operations rather than a police chief who constantly overlooks his staff behaviors. I can't be fully wrong am I?

Regardless of what chief is hired Oakland will be Oakland. They should just save on the salary of a chief and have somebody that's already there to run the place.

What is this current token going to do any different than the last two token that were in position other than supposedly talking about improving response and dealing with crimes yet overlooking endless crimes that have taken place and making excuse of never having enough staff and delaying response demanding more money.

What a debacle. She shouldn’t have fired him but the committee should have chosen candidates in good faith. The people of Oakland deserve better. I hope she does declare a state of emergency if it gets law enforcement assistance.

It doesn't matter if OPD has a chief or not. The crimes in the city was jsut as bad when there was a chief. This mayor is jst as bad as her predecessor LIbby. LIbby was totally bad and I thought no one could be as bad as her. Iam fooled. irrespective of whether Oakland has police chief or not, people should demand that Sheng thao resign immediatley because she is totally useless and the entire city council ought to resign immeidately too beause they are unfit to govern this city. I do blame the Oakland voters for electing the wrong people to run this city and they are responsible for what is happening.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Crime is rising, while other metros it is falling...crime in Oakland is also not being reported because 911 and reporting it is broken. Libby was not totally bad, but the progressives she had to fight much worse. Sheng must resign. We must recall Pamela Price. We must vote out awful progressive destroyers like Kalb, Bas, Fife, and Kaplan. They are a toxic leadership group to the core.
